"Hey, Demon Bill, I'm gonna float over to the Victoria's Secret and watch the women changing clothes. You want to come?"

"Wow, that sounds awesome, but I can't. I gotta hover around this book in Goodwill until somebody buys it."

"That sounds really boring! How long have you been doing that?"

"Twenty six years. I guess there isn't a lot of demand for the Cheryl Ladd workout these days. But sooner or later, somebody's gonna buy it, and boy, that will be sweet!"

"Oh yeah? Well after twenty six years of plotting, I imagine you have some terrifyingly ghoulish horrors in store for that unfortunate soul! I'm getting chills just thinking about it!"

"You aren't kidding Bob! First I thought I'd make some noises in the attic that sound vaguely like footsteps. Then I'm gonna wake them from a deep sleep by whispering!"

"Uh, OK... I'm not sure I follow. What will that accomplish?"

"They will be mildly put out!! Can you imagine?! They're trying to put in a full days work, but they can't concentrate, because they didn't get a full night's sleep! Ooh, I'M SO EVIL!"

"Well, OK, I guess that's pretty evil. Well, I'm gonna take off. Say, have you seen Frank lately?"

"Last I heard he's been hovering over a sweater in The Salvation Army since Nineteen Fifty-Three."

"Oh yeah, that's right. Well, good luck. Hey, just out of curiosity, why don't you just pick someone at random instead of hanging around this book?"

"We can do that? I thought we couldn't go into someone's home unless we were invited."

"No, Bill, you're thinking of vampires. You dummy! Vampires aren't even real..."

Thank you! Wow, it was only posted for around a minute or so. I'm glad someone shares my sense of humor. I cracked myself up writing it. I'm tempted to expand it into a full blown short story. I'm home now, so I'll repost it.

Good vs Evil.....does the existence of God prove the existence of Satan?

does not believing in god bring evil down to a simple explanation of the conflict that is within every human being.

seems to me the "force" is at work in the world, and the "force" is both good and evil.

sometimes it is easier for me to believe in the existence of satan than the existence of god.

The good vs evil duality in western society originated w zerostrianism. Jews returning from babylon after persia conquored it brought it back w them.

You beat me to it. I was going to point this out as well. Initially, the Jews didn't have a concept of the devil the way we do today. The Adam & Eve story never even hints that the talking snake is anything but a talking snake, nor does the rest of the Old Testament for that matter. Pre- Babylonian exile books attributed both good and evil deeds to Jehovah, whereas post exile books attribute good deeds to Jehovah and evil deeds to the devil. The name Satan is never mentioned in the Old Testament.

Eventually the Jews adopted the Zoroastrian concept of a good God and an evil God. Ahura-Mazda vs. Angra Mainyu became Jehovah vs. Satan after the jews returned from the Babylonian exile, where they were exposed to Zoroastrian beliefs. Note the parallel accounts of King David recorded in 2 Samuel 24:1 and 1 Chronicles21:1. The pre-exile 2 Samuel attributes the event to Jehovah, while the post-exile 1 Chronicles attributes the same event to Satan.

Personally, I think knowing where the concept of Satan comes from makes it much easier to decide whether or not Satan exists.

I spoke with the newbie who PMd this to me... since this is a good spoof, he plans on surreptitiosly sending this out to all the friends he has... and hoping that some may click on JWD, and have doubts...
It's not a bad plan...

This may work, but I think in general being misleading is a bad way to teach someone the truth (small t). If they realise these are "apostate lies", which in all fairness they are, it will validate everything the society teaches about the crafty and deceitful apostates trying to steal Jehovah's sheep. It could very well have the opposite affect then the one intended.

TV Converter Box Choice?

tv converter box choice?.

i need some help choosing which tv converter box to buy.

i have two united states government issued converter box $40 coupons good till 9-9-08. .

Any TV that has a digital tuner doesn't need a box, even for over the air reception. Any TV bought in the last 2 or 3 years should be fine. Older TVs you'll have to do some checking as to whether they have a digital tuner or just an analog one. Also any TV hooked up to cable or a satellite converter box is fine.

thinking about just giving it up....i always revert back to a nightly habit.....and the occasasinal big escape into the bottle.

but of course you can't live there, and it fixes nothing.. because i think i do have a problem, i went to some aa meetings and found them to be too much like wt.

if alcholism is a true disease, then why is it the only one that needs god (or a higher power to cure (or cope with).

Thanks Oompa for starting this thread and being so honest about it. I wish you luck whatever approach you take. And thanks Crumpet, your posts struck a chord with me, and I like your approach.

I started drinking heavily when I started "doubting", to deal with my situation. Cognitive dissonance, as Daniel said. I felt I couldn't leave the cult because I wanted to stay married and keep my extended family. The alcohol helped numb the pain.

Now I live alone and it's a habit. Honestly a lot of my problem is boredom. I have structured my business in such a way that I don't have to work every day if I don't want to. As a result, I have too much free time. On those days, I often start drinking at noon. I know I drink too much. I don't think I'm ready to quit yet, but I think my time is coming soon.
