  i just got back from seeing the new movie release "expelled" which is a documentary exposing the militant culture of supression regarding intelligent design in the scientific community.

  in a "million years", i never would have imagined that ben stein could get the author of "the god delusion", richard dawkins to speak favorably about i.d.

  There are hypotheses regarding abiogenesis, there are no theories. Eventually one of these hypotheses will make it to the status of theory but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

  D'oh! You're right of course. I made the classic blunder of using the word "theory" the way it is commonly used, meaning hypothesis, instead of it's scientific usage. I can't believe I did that in a thread discussing evolution of all things. Thanks for the correction.

  That being the case, it is a guess (in the form of a strong assertion on both sides). Both sides may assert their faith, but it shouldn't be covered as a "scientific theory". Neither of the theories are scientific.
  
  Adaptation, mutation, and natural selection are facts. Spontaneous generation is a religion.

  No credible scientist has believed in spontaneous generation since Pasteur. Abiogenesis is not spontaneous generation, and there are several credible scientific theories, not guesses, about how this occurred.

  The Bible is true there is nothing new under the sun.

  You're absolutely right (I respond by typing on my iphone connected wirelessly to the internet from a bar, while at the same time watching television broadcast from a satellite orbiting the Earth. In a few minutes I will drive home in a machine travelling at 70mph). Life is truly exactly the same as when those words were written.

  Hitler was a brilliant propagandist. He sometimes couched justification for his barbarism in scientific terms because it was effective to do so, just as he sometimes appealed to religious justifications, as this also was effective. The fact is that whatever he used to justify his actions to the masses HAS NO BEARING ON WHAT IS TRUE. It is a non-issue, appealed to by the intellectually dishonest when they have no real point. When all else fails, bring out the Nazi's.
