Good points, Black Sheep.
Every time I hear someone is being disfellowshipped I get jealous. I think my authentic personality is trying to tell me something.
Congratulations, SBC!
in case anyone's interested but unaware of my family's case up to this point, here's the original thread:.

so the elders requested a follow-up meeting last week but we were unable to meet at their set time and told them as much.

Welcome, anonjw! (The ladies here may not receive you so warmly after that crack, though.)
i watched the movie "mickey blue eyes" last night on tv, staring hugh grant.
at one point there is a knock at the door and mickey, looking through the peep hole, anounces "its the jehovah bloody witnesses".
there was more insitent knocking and the female occupant replies "they must be really devoted!".
The recent movie about the Notorious B.I.G. had references to his being brought up by a JW mom... it even showed a copy of the NWT.

this was brought up just in passing on another thread.
but i wanted to see if there are any bethelites or ex bethelites that remember some of the crazy rules we had to follow when we were there..
After high school I regular auxiliary pioneered for over a year. The hour requirement was 60 a month, which is more than regular pioneers are required to do now.
I applied for Bethel at age 19 but was turned down and told that I needed to regular pioneer for a year to be accepted, which was 90 hours a month back then. I knew I couldn't honestly make that quota. There were regular pioneers in my congregation, but I think they fudged a bit on counting their time. My overly sensitive conscience didn't allow me to do that.
About that time I realized that I needed to get a more reliable car and so started working more to pay for it. I didn't apply for Bethel again and reading this thread makes me so happy I never went.
the jws visited me again today, and i have to admit i was surprised when i asked them if they thought animals would be resurrected.. now i ask this question from a lot of different religions.
most often i ask if people think they have spirits, but since jws don't believe people have them, why bother asking about animals?.
but i did ask about resurrection, which is the next best thing...i guess.. to my surprise they said no!
you ever remember poking fun about other religions with your jw associates?.
i do.. now that i am out i find it funny and very ironic that i made fun of such "absurd" beliefs.. here is a list of the top of my head that i used to believe:.
1. that 144,000 people will taken from the earth at random and appointed a immortal kings and priests in heaven.
Silly Mormons.
Wait a minute, maybe they're onto something.
