we had several "talent" shows over the years in my original congregation - it was the only annual gathering more nauseating that the meetings.. my friend and i would always bring our walkmans and blare heavy metal in the back - hoping to block out the embarassing crap on the stage.you always had a few older ones get up on stage and slaughter a kingdumb song.

Truth in advertising: how a JW service presentation should really be done

i'm here recruiting new members for the jehovah's witness cult.

Hi. My name's Jimmy. How are you today?
I'm here recruiting new members for the Jehovah's Witness cult. My plan is to entice you with the carrot known as the Paradise earth. My stick is to scare you with the threat of Armageddon.
I'm going to try to separate you from your family members. Once you become a cult member you will no longer be allowed to celebrate Christmas or your birthday. You won't even be able to express your own opinion on politics. And don't even think of questioning our leaders. They represent God himself.
Once you join you'll have a lot of instant friends. Just don't step out of line, though, or we'll never talk to you again. That even includes when your life is on the line and you need a blood transfusion.
Someday I hope you'll be just like me out here knocking on doors and recruiting new members yourself. As you do this you'll be allowed to support yourself with a menial job. Remember, though- higher education is a no-no!
Got kids? They're going to be thrilled about spending hot summer days sitting through three day conventions in their little suitcoats. They're also going to love being different from everyone else by not saluting the flag or taking part in extracurricular activities like sports.
Years from now you're going to be disillusioned that the end never came and you spent your entire life in a cult. But that's only if you're ever brave enough to get on those evil apostate websites and figure out what the Watchtower is really all about.
Well, I hope you like what you're hearing. Let's get started with what I call a "door-step Bible study".

A Responsible Discussion on Ray Franz's Role in the Lives of Former JW's
by AllTimeJeff insince it was learned that ray franz went to the hospital and then passed away, most threads have in my opinion, correctly tried to give some honor and respect to a courageous, honest, and principled man.. some borderline trolls, who know many former jw's are easily upset (and they know this.
i know this...) try to take advantage by hitting on a hot button.
in this case, its to call you a follower of ray franz.. we all know that isn't true.. but i think that a legitimate discussion on this is in order.

Before reading Ray's books I still had some fear in the back of my mind that maybe the Watchtower really was God's organization. It was necessary for Franz to loose that hold on me by deconstructing WT doctrine subject by subject. The chapter on the history of the borg's false expectations was the key one for me personally.
Reading those books freed me to consider the Bible from a more traditional Christian standpoint. For a while, like Ray, I felt it was necessary to focus my life more on Jesus Christ.
Examining the Bible honestly without WT glasses, however, made me ultimately realize that the "Good Book" was just another religious mythology.
Even though reading Ray's books often made me angry at the WT, I never felt like Ray himself was anything but a humble and loving person. His books are indispensable for me.

The WHO at the Super Bowl!
by lepermessiah ini was having a conversation with a younger guy at work - he barely knew who the who was....... he was telling me that he recognized the songs but thought they sounded pretty rough.. i told him that i wish he could have seen them even 10 years ago - i saw them live in 2000 and roger still sounded awesome, and pete was still.....pete!.
the real big loss was losing the ox - john entwistle was so important to that band.
he was amazing live....... moon was a huge loss, but after je passed, i really wish they would have stopped performing live as the who.. here is an awesome taste of him in action.......rip ox............ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvl39lbzgmw.

I saw The Who in 2002. I wasn't a big fan but a friend of mine was and I went with him. This was immediately after Entwistle died. Ringo Starr's son played drums. Great show!

THE MOST THRILLING MOMENT of your life.....?

It's so hard to pick just one. There's the sexual moments... the falling in love moments... the moments exploring foreign countries... the rock concerts... and then there are the little things... like celebrating Christmas for the first time... or teaching your child their A B C's... I just can't pick one.

Interesting phenomenon I'm seeing on Facebook

It's becoming more and more evident that many young JWs just don't care about the WT rules anymore. One JW on Facebook has particularly intrigued me lately. He posts pics of himself sporting (gasp) a beard and uses curse words in his status updates. Then, to top it all off, he is "now friends with" a known disfellowshipped person. And yet, as far as I've seen, all other of his JW Facebook friends haven't cut him off their friend list. Truly does my heart proud!
