The principles of Unitarianism:
- The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
- Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
- Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
- A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
- The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
- The goal of world community with peace, liberty and justice for all;
- Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
How Unitarians look at the Bible: "We do not, however, hold the Bible - or any other account of human experience - to be either an infallible guide or the exclusive source of truth. Much biblical material is mythical or legendary. Not that it should be discarded for that reason! Rather, it should be treasured for what it is. We believe that we should read the Bible as we read other books - with imagination and a critical eye. We also respect the sacred literature of other religions. Contemporary works of science, art, and social commentary are valued as well. We hold, in the words of an old liberal formulation, that "revelation is not sealed." Unitarian Universalists aspire to truth as wide as the world - we look to find truth anywhere, universally."
Sound good?

has anyone looked into Buddhism?
by poor places ini've started reading a book called the modern buddhist's bible and i'm liking a lot of things about the religion so far.
of course i don't know much yet, but there seem to be some very good points to buddhism.
one thing i love is the emphasis on "killing" the ego (or whatever you might want to call what buddhists try to do with their egos!).

I think the lack of dogmatism is a reflection of staying on the Middle Path. We've all seen enough of the craziness that comes from having extreme and intolerable viewpoints.

I was growing old waiting for Jehovah's celestial chariot to keep up with me.

I'm into a Western version of Zen. I don't believe everything I read about Buddha, just as I don't believe everything I read about Jesus. I just try to glean wisdom from their teachings that can help me in my life. What I've learned about Buddhism has really helped me find an inner peace. I've posted several threads about Zen Living, would love to hear your take on them.

I especially enjoyed the footage of the Great Tribulation, Armageddon, and the Resurrection. Isn't it wonderful to be on a Paradise earth?
