I've always wondered...the delegates get to stay with Witness families in some of the countries (namely in the USA) so does the Society charge them as if they would be getting a hotel room even though they're staying somewhere for free? I know the Society is very stringent on their policy of ONLY buying their packages.

An elder I know was accepted to be an International Delegate -$9,000 for 2 people!
by BonaFide inhe is an elder, and he and his wife were "accepted" to go to south africa.
including airfare, hotel, food, general tours, it comes to $9,000.. have any of you experienced this or seen this before?
i was out of the country for some years, so i haven't kept up with prices of being a delegate.. so, if they were to go without the "international delegate" designation, would it still be $9000?.

I love how people throw around the word socialism without even knowing what it is. :)

by nbernat indoes anyone have one or a scanned copy that could be downloaded somewhere?
i'm aware that oftentimes the jw lawyers find links and then have it taken down for copyright reasons..

Contradictory beliefs and faulty reasoning re. Jehovah 'blessing' the work
by Simon inyou will hear jws coming out with two things that are completely contradictory which they take to both prove the same thing.. 1. they have massive growth and that proves that jehovah is blessing the work they do.
2. they are not as large as the catholic church which proves that they are the 'narrow path' leading to salvation.
so, having a lot of followers and also not having a lot of followers are both proof that you are the one and true religion.. hmmn, ok ... but there is more.. think about what they believe regarding #1 above ... that growth is evidence that jehovah is blessing their work.. how does that work exactly?.

I hate that. How there's an answer to EVERYTHING. It makes my parents never understand my logic attacks on the JW belief system.
Like this week with the Bible highlights about Lot and him offering his daughters to the gay guys of Sodom...the WORST logic I've ever heard to explain why it wasn't bad for him to do that.

Never Believed in the Resurrection Hope - Nor the Witnesses Crazy Ideas
by flipper ini will list a number of my doubts on this subject as it was one teaching that pissed me off - as i feel it caused jehovah's witnesses not to mourn properly at funerals and show authentic compassion to others - as well as held out false hope for a " fantasyland " paradise .
these reasons i list here actually were and are taught by jehovah's witnesses as fact !
listen to how bizarre this sounds.

That's one of the things I'm currently having a hard time overcoming-- the fact that after we're dead, we're dead. Nothing more to it. It makes me kind of sad to know I have only 70 more years to live, if that, but I guess I'll just have to make the most of them. But my family doesn't understand that. . .so instead of trying to coexist peacefully we argue, argue, yell, scream, get mad at each other and don't get over it. . .don't they realize this is it!?

Could you explain 1914?
by digderidoo in1914 doctrine was a major thing to me at the time i was a witness, i loved explaining it and saying we had the truth.
but there were so many witnesses that couldn't explain it at the time and only had a basic concept as to how they came up with the date.
i wonder how many here could explain and understand this when they were a dub?

Yeah. . .unfortunately I was one of the 10% who was brainwashed into believing it. Basically. . .607 BCE Jerusalem destroyed (or something like that) + 2025 = 1914 But the logistics I'd have to look up.

Did you ever wonder about this....
by StoneWall indid adam and eve have belly buttons?
(navels).
you and i have them because we were a fetus and had a umbilical cord attached to us to provide nourishment and removal of waste etc.. since adam and eve was created and not born (and this is from a reliable source) would they have had a belly button.. .

That's a good question. I'm sure the Society could concoct something reallllll good as answer for that one.
And your second point is hilarious. -

Will the WTBTS ever become mainstream like the WWCG?
by donny inback during the 80's and 90's, i occasionally heard statements lumping the society in with the likes of the worldwide church of god who had very similar teachings and even believed in 1975 as being a year that god would act (1975 in prophecy!
by herbert w. armstrong).
clearly the roots of the wwcg were from the same as the societys and both groups were viewed as cults.

Ew I HATE going to Bethel. Hate, hate, hate it!
I wanted to go to NYC and tour the city. . .but as a spiritual family, we had to go go to Bethel. If you are a JW, go to NYC (even the east coast for that matter!) and you don't go to Bethel, you're seen like some sort of freak.
