Questions on Assembly to help wife critically think
by insearchoftruth ingood afternoon,.
my wife is going to be attending the assembly in hampton, va this weekend and was wondering if there are any questions that i could ask her in advance to help her critically think about what is being said?.
it has been a while since she has attended either a meeting or a dc, so will be sort of like being hit anew with this stuff, but i think she has done a few bs with the pesky sister in the meanwhile, though she is being quite silent about it.. .

Do JWs miss having large parties, pot-lucks, etc?
by navytownroger inas has been stated before, large congregational get-togethers, cook-outs, baseball games, etc are now greatly discouraged by the society.
back in the 80s in san diego we had parties, night-time beach bonfires, pool parties and frequent restaurant meals with 10+ people.
do current jws seem to miss these sorts of social activities??

I do. We used to have them about two years ago but now it's pretty much non-existent.

It's about the Holy Spirit:
You could ask her if the Holy Spirit guides God's organization and is a so-called apostate, how is it possible that old prophecies and teachings have been wrong?
Or how is it possible if it is the Holy Spirit doing the appointments that spies for the Soviets were appointed as elders if from the get-go they were doing it for interests of the government and in hopes of outing the underground Witnesses? -

Is this fair?
by nbernat inthis is my take on the whole inherited sin thing:.
let's say your parents committed a crime and were sentenced to life in prison, let's say 140 years.
now, they died 90 years short of their sentence.

That's exactly what I was going to say-- in the future, God will eventually kill all the bad people and then we will be back to square one.
So what's the point? -

So 6,000 years of pain and suffering is the way to go?
That's not true. He would have destroyed Satan along with Adam and Eve and anyone who opposed him. No future conundrums. -

So why, then, let us inherit a disease and not just kill those infected and, as said, make new people who can continue God's will and thus prove that only God can rule?

This is my take on the whole inherited sin thing:
Let's say your parents committed a crime and were sentenced to life in prison, let's say 140 years. Now, they died 90 years short of their sentence. . .would it be fair for you, someone who had nothing to do with the crime and probably didn't even know it happened until you went to visit them in the bin, to, as their child, finish out their sentence? And if you died, for your kids to continue finishing off the sentence?
I know the WTS gives this over-reaching explanation on how He had to because the angels were watching and He had to prove He abides by his Word, blah, blah. . .but isn't the aforementioned analogy exactly what's going on today with sin?
Aren't we serving out Adam and Eve's sentence?
