I would guess that the majority of JW's think it is 100% real.
They wouldn't dare jump on the "evil" internet for 2 minutes to find out the truth behind the hoax.
most of us who were in the jehovah's witnesses for some time realize that for years the watchtower society had always discouraged it's rank and file members from going to see therapists, or professional counselors if they had depression, or serious chemical depression.
the watchtower society always told us to go out in service more, do more personal study, be more regular at meetings - and essentially we would lose our depression , and everything would fall right back into place.
the old, " don't worry, be happy " cliche.
Sad story:
We had a close friend who was very depressed for many years. Her husband thought he was doing the right thing by getting the elders in the middle of it.
Their advice was to pray more together as a family.
She would miss a lot of meetings, and one of the elders actually rolled his eyes and told me that she missed meetings because she was "sick"... he made the quote gesture with his fingers... Another time he referred to her as "nutty". (such a loving shepherd)
It was devastating when she killed herself a few months later.
It is easy to second guess after the fact, but she really should have been hospitalized before it happened. All of the warning signs were there.

amazing choir boy - andrew johnston.
Impressive...
while at work today one of my co-workers came into my office and laid some watchtowers on my desk.
she knows that im a j-dub, faded, apostate, but ive explained to her about the whole deal of dfing and shunning and how for the purpose of my family ive just faded.
but she was telling me that one of her clients is a j-dub and offered her some magazines and she kindly refused but the lady wouldnt let up (basically bullying her) and insisted on how much she would enjoy them, so my co-worker (to be nice) took them.
I think "Apostate" may be one of the most fear inspiring words to a JW.
the unabashed aggression of scientology.

5/1/2008 is almost history.
i have noticed alot of debate in posts lately between an atheist argument and a christian one.
it seems to me that the atheist is asked to disprove god's existence.
some times these debates have started to get personal with one side attacking the other with insults and i do not want to start another argument like these.. but i dont get it?
Continuation of Parakeet's post:
Believer: Vandals will destroy you for not believing in them.
Athiest: Sure... I'll watch out for that.

Trevor - You make a good point.
I didn't mean to imply that religious extremism doesn't matter (pose a threat) to humanity, rather I meant that it doesn't matter what you prove or disprove. People who want to believe WILL believe without regard to the evidence.

I don't think atheists have to disprove God (or prove God doesn't exist) but it doesn't really matter. Some people want to believe, some don't.
It reminds me of the line from the movie The Prestige: "Now you're looking for the secret... but you won't find it because you're not really looking. You don't really want to know the secret... You want to be fooled."
I know many Theists (mostly JW) who will completely ignore facts and evidence because they want to continue to believe... it is like a security blanket, and they want the comfort of being fooled.
On the other hand, I don't know many Atheists or Agnostics that would categorically reject a loving God if he were to reveal himself openly to humans.
