  Observations about dubs as people...

  i was thinking back on some of the people i knew growing up, as well as my own family - many of whom are dubs... tell me what your own experiences are of these kind of people, did you notice a large prevalence of these types of people in the congs you attended:.

  1. health nuts: into all sorts of alternative health theories like iridology, reflexology, homeopathy etc?

  2. get rich quick folk: always getting involved in this scheme or that, this business or that - especially pyramid type things?.

  Otherwise, it is obvious that they are just charity cases.

  They need sensational stories to like this to keep them convinced that they are special.

  Several yeas ago (at a circuit assembly) the speaker was reading experiences, and he started talking about a "worldly" contractor that was hired to do some brick work on one of the buildings in Brooklyn. Apparently the contractor was doing substandard work, so the day before the job was finished, the wall collapsed and they had to rebuild it again (the second time they did it the right way). This was obviously the work of Holy Spirit making sure that the construction on WTS real estate is top notch.

  The hand of God can swoop down to intervene with shoddy construction, but not to help starving children or ease human suffering.

  I have never understood how they can charge interest.

  Wait a minute, I just read Deuteronomy 23:19,20 in the NWT:

  19

  "You must not make your brother pay interest greater than 3% annualized, interest on money, interest on food, interest on anything on which one may claim interest. 20 You may make a foreigner pay interest, but your brother you must not make pay interest greater than 3% annualized; in order that Jehovah your God may bless you in every undertaking of yours on the land to which you are going so as to take possession of it.

  Those translators really knew what they were doing.

  Nvr, I think most of us want to believe... If we are talking about a God who really loves us and will fix all of the shit in the world.

  It's funny, because most of the religious people I talk to secretly ignore dogma, and when they speak candidly about their faith, they say that they just want to believe in a loving god.

  They try to throw out or ignore the negative aspects of the official doctrine.

  They want comfort.

  It's wishful thinking.
