Continuation of Parakeet's post:
Believer: Vandals will destroy you for not believing in them.
Athiest: Sure... I'll watch out for that.
i have noticed alot of debate in posts lately between an atheist argument and a christian one.
it seems to me that the atheist is asked to disprove god's existence.
some times these debates have started to get personal with one side attacking the other with insults and i do not want to start another argument like these.. but i dont get it?

Trevor - You make a good point.
I didn't mean to imply that religious extremism doesn't matter (pose a threat) to humanity, rather I meant that it doesn't matter what you prove or disprove. People who want to believe WILL believe without regard to the evidence.

I don't think atheists have to disprove God (or prove God doesn't exist) but it doesn't really matter. Some people want to believe, some don't.
It reminds me of the line from the movie The Prestige: "Now you're looking for the secret... but you won't find it because you're not really looking. You don't really want to know the secret... You want to be fooled."
I know many Theists (mostly JW) who will completely ignore facts and evidence because they want to continue to believe... it is like a security blanket, and they want the comfort of being fooled.
On the other hand, I don't know many Atheists or Agnostics that would categorically reject a loving God if he were to reveal himself openly to humans.
True. Very True.
I'll have to think of something a little less obvious.
the memorial attendance was announced for 2008 by the do at thisweekends ca but i did not catch it as i was texting another fader who was there.
one thing that i did note was that there was no comment of it being more than last year or a peak attendance.
i would like to know what last year was as compared to this year.. i know the attendance was less in our area than last year.. one .
I wasn't listening... I was busy texting.
that's right, may 1 and after should see momentous changes!.
that because it's.
national day of prayer!.
Prayer always works... when you pray for something nebulous and untestable.
Welcome to the rabbit hole. Take the red pill.
hi.. just wondering what made you take the final leap out of the org?
was it doctrinal in that certain things just didnt add up or was it because of the actions of people in the org.
that made you leave?
People made me start questioning things at the congregation level, but not the religion as a whole.
Then by sheer accident I followed up on the 607/587 discrepancy. I say it was an accident because I didn't set out to question the society, I just wanted to know why there was a difference. When I found out the truth, that the WTS has basically made up there own history, I started questioning other details. The deeper into the rabbit whole I went, the more I understood that they manufacture facts and twist reality to bolster their flawed doctrine.

the above website was posted by zensim on the thread about indigo children.
the site has nothing to do.
Very interesting take...
Maybe we should start our own book study.
no, wait a minute, we can't... the 9/2007 KM put the brakes on that.
