So I usually get dressed for school at my job. I couldn't today so I figured I'd drive by my parent's house and ask if I could change there seeing as they live two blocks from my house. As I am pulling up to my parent's I see a familiar face. A face I haven't seen in about a year and ½. I realized it's my sister who I was super super close with. She was disfellowshipped for many years. I was in at the time. I never shunned her. She's my sister for crying out loud.
So as I get closer, I beep my horn and wave at her. She looks, turns around, walks into my parent's house and closes the door. Even when my mom let's me come inside to change, she doesn't come down and say hello. Check on me. Ask about her neice or nephew. Nothing.
Honestly it doesn't even hurt any more. It does make me sad to see how two people who were inseparable can't even say hello to each other any more. At this point I don't even reach out to her any more. I beleive that you have to have a bit of self respect. Self worth. And if your JW friends/family choose to ignore you, it's there lose.
Some on this blog have asked what we would do if the Governing Body changed their stance on shunning (which after GJ Royal Commission hearing we know they won't ever). I know what I would do. I'd do nothing. I'd keep living my life. The damage has been done by this sick cult. I just hope my family will see it one day. Won't hold my breath.

Hey Rick.
Welcome to the site. I saw your interview many months ago w/Eric of JWStruggle ("I'll drink to that!" LOL). You're story really resonated w/me. Just like you I also was disfellowshipped 3 times. I guess all along we were fighting to hold on to something that was not truly within us. But any how, glad you and the wife are working on things. Of that's truly what you guys want, religion or not, it will work out. Keep your head up bro. You're not alone on the road to recovery from the cult. Cheers!!!

Do we have a "spiritual need"?
by LexIsFree inso this is only my second post but its about something that has been on my mind for awhile now.
have any of you ever felt the need to pray or speak to a higher power?
do any of you beleive that we were created or have evolved with a "spiritual need"?

Maybe that's what I am experiencing. Although I am out, I'm still mentally in that "box" religion puts us in.

I'm in a bit of a transition in my life, as many of you are. I wouldn't say I'm an atheist because I also at times beleive that there might be some type of higher power or energy in the universe. Since a kid I always struggled with the idea of a god the we were taught about in JW world. And I admit I am mad at " God" who ever he/she may be. But sometimes I wake up with the need to speak to a higher power. Have any of you felt this way? Please share your thoughts & experiences. Thanks!!!

I may have a friend
by Defianttruth inokay, i am almost forty and outside of my wife i haven't had a friend in decades.
sure i have tons of people with whom i am friendly towards, but they all share something to do with work or business.
i remember thinking last year i had no one who called just to talk.

This was a great post. I was just having this conversation with my boss who is very aware of my JW upbringing and awakening. I was telling him how I don't have any friends outside of work and school. Reading your story has given me some hope that one day I'll have a friend. A true friend. -

@Tenacious Thank you for the warm reply. Yes the grip the WatchTower has is amazing. I get frustrated thinking to myself "Why don't my family and friends see what I see?" But you can't live your life trying to change the org. I personally will continue to live my life and try to be a good example for my children. It's the best thing for me.
