i would like to ask the ex-jws on this site to put their ‘apologists hat’ back on for a moment, so that i can go through the overlapping generation teaching in an attempt to make sense of it.
i apologise if these points have already been addressed on this site.a quick background for the reason for my request… having never confronted a jw apologist on the topic, i recently engaged with a jw regarding the official understanding of a ‘generation’ and unfortunately he didn’t have an answer to the points i was making.
i was left a little confused as to what the official jw response would/should be.so i was hoping that my thoughts below might be considered from an apologist’s perspective.the point in question relates to this section of the watchtower article below from 2008, as well as the jw.org video explanation of the overlapping generation:---:w08 2/15[box on page 25] can we calculate the length of “this generation”?the word “generation” usually refers to people of various ages whose lives overlap during a particular time period or event.
As I stated previously once a age group for set of generations dies then that age group can not be included in the generational set.
So now we are in a proceeding generational set that does not include the people born around 1914.
Of course thats being intellectually honest in the use and acceptance of the word generation(s), something the WTS heads have purposely played and twisted to appeal to their own want and desire.
for a long time, i thought pimi (physically in, mentally in) jws were unique in their inability to simply type and read the latest "google" news results about "jehovah's witnesses " or "watchtower".
however, it appears it is not uncommon for a large portion of the population purposefully to avoid facts...on purpose!
"why do people avoid facts that could help them?.
With the JWS at least its about putting trust and faith in god's chosen ones the anointed GB members for accurate and truthful bible interpretation.
The people who are in this organization like that the world is going to come to an end with themselves most likely surviving, which is their reward for their devotion and actions within the organization.
To not be loyal and obedient to those men is being identifiable unloyal and disobedient to god the organization's established awareness and acceptance.
Plus questioning will get you pointed out as being spiritually weak and flawed and hurtful being among the rest of the congregation.

Strange is it not that god's select chosen organization, now the anointed GB of the JWS have been preaching and teaching false doctrines for decades but god's holy spirit didn't jump in and correct them with new truthful light ?
Maybe the WTS GB members are not god's chosen ones ?
Maybe they proclaimed that themselves in 1919 to create their subsequent power ?

If lying and theological bullshit (1914) established this JWS religion (Publishing house) then it becomes a paramount importance to sustain that foundation to how the organization was built upon.
The "ONLY" reason the WTS came up with the overlapping generation was because the stated generation that witnessed the events of 1914 had passed away.
There was no Great Tribulation and no Armageddon.

And that "Millions now living will never die" proclamation that the once president of the Watchtower/JWS used was a great marketing strategy for creating attention for literature proliferation and for public talks as well.

Its weird how technology has changed social human behavior and developed social ideologies these days.
It seems we have to scrutinize information evermore so that's available on the internet .

Polls are only good for creating broad scope speculation
i haven't been on here in quite some time so i apologize if i missed a similar thread already (i did look for one :) ) anyways, just to be clear i think the jw response to covid in general has been really positive and proactive and they've done really well trying to educate people on covid, doing zoom meetings, etc to prevent spread within the congregations.
the part that i find interesting is how compliant and non-apocalyptic the branch has been during all of this.
even as someone who's a bit of a skeptic i found myself wondering if this might be the beginning of the end between covid, economic upheaval, and blm.
Being that the WTS/JWorg is a fear mongering religious publishing house that exploits the public's basic belief in the bible, is it any wonder or surprise the GB heads are exploiting this pandemic to its fullest potential ?
