  Are we hyper-sensitised to JW changes? Do we exaggerate their importance?

  sometimes i think we lose all perspective at times on here.

  that we are just as prone to over-magnifying any meaning behind relatively minor changes like this in the organisation in the same way jw's are prone to over exaggerate every bit of bad news in the world to mean armageddon is near.. when you sit down in the cold light of day, this change to the bookstudy arrangement for example, is it really that much a big deal?

  i strongly doubt it really, despite initial reactions (including my own).

  Yeah, but I think we deserve to be over-critical. After so much being unable to criticize, we have some ground to make-up here.

  I've also been worried about adjusting our dialogue to optimize the chance that active JWs lurking would gain the interest or courage to make a move. On that too, screw it. I deserve to make obtuse jokes about following the path of Satan, whatever I frickin' feel like. I think the sense of "still bending" to the organization or any associated mentality would be damaging to all of us. No fear, no apologies!

  for those who came in later in life - regardless of how many times from the podium you were instructed not to "leave the love you had at first" many of you are here because you found out the "truth about the truth" whether it was the people or doctrine or combination ... and were willing to open your mind, realize the "truth about the truth" and leave.

  I don't mean this very assertively, just an idea.

  Is it maybe easier for a "Born-in" to get out? We "Born-ins" never made a real choice, this can build the deep sense of resentment and entrapment that can fuel the effort to "GET OUT". Persons who came in intentionally obviously either "believed" or found "something better" than being worldish as they had already experienced. I never so much "valued" being JW, it was always a limiting force on me. Yeah the brainwashing phenomena had its grips in me, but that's more a psychological tick than some state of being that I look back fondly about after its lost.

  My money is that family pressures/people around you in your life are the definitive conclusion about "how hard" it is to leave. Emotional blackmail and coercion are the real evils here, people believe and fail to believe stuff about god everyday without an excessive amount of drama. The drama comes from how many claws the cult has in you, not so much when it drove the claws in.

  The Penis is the most useful tool in the world. Women keep thinking they can do man-things, chyah! sometimes I just think to myself "How're going going to to THAT without a PENIS!?!". Women can get by, but without the right tools for the job, its a struggle I'm sure.

  That isn't the end of it girls, there is no end to the plethora of problems that can be solved and tasks that can be accomplished with the ever-useful Penis. We don't brag about our anatomical superiority in front of you, because we've found some of the best uses can be hampered by pissing off women. Women don't want the Penis thrust in their face everyday (and not nearly enough in my opinion). Just be assured that life is much easier with the equipment, but don't feel bad, the noble Vagina is also held in very high esteem, if for a much more limited set of capabilities.

  I have a simple question. If there is no God who then wrote the bible? Man who does not know how to adhere to the teachings perfectly? Did a man (or women) write the words in the bible from experience to pass on to their offspring? Who would have imagined that everything man did on the earth would cause such havock as predicted in the bible? Who would have thought that many floods, food shortages, earthquakes, pestilence just to name a few would have taken place like it said it would in a book? The bible is a book of prophecy and a mere mortal man could not have written it. Does this not hold true?

  It missed that God sent latter-day saints to North America. Who wrote the book of Mormon? surely not a man! Impossible! How would man even know North America is here after all! It missed that God had another prophet named Mohammed. Who wrote the Koran? surely not man! Impossible! How could a man write the Koran? Especially with all the crazy language and right to left orientation of text. Nuts, no man could ever master that! It failed to predict this astonishingly witty yet mocking post! Who wrote this post? surely not a man! how could a man's logic be so stinging?

  I think the Blood Transfusion BS will eventually be scrapped. Given there isn't ANY biblical basis for it of ANY substance, scrapping the uber-cultish aspects would go a long ways toward getting appreciable numbers of newbies into the fold.

  If I was Cult Leader in Chief, I would have made that move concurrent with any of the "oops the world isn't ending in 19XX" notices that Jehovah God himself issues from time to time. Hell Jews couldn't eat pork, now we can, JW's can't eat blood, hell, why wouldn't God increase privaleges over time. NOBODY is in love with the "No Blood Transfusions" bullshit. I seem to remember that was the biggest thing JW's were embarassed to talk about with worldlings.

  Why does an atheist have to disprove anything?

  i have noticed alot of debate in posts lately between an atheist argument and a christian one.

  it seems to me that the atheist is asked to disprove god's existence.

  some times these debates have started to get personal with one side attacking the other with insults and i do not want to start another argument like these.. but i dont get it?

  Believer: Look at that! My lawn furniture, grill, and bird feeders were knocked over and damaged during the night. Someone must have trespassed and vandalized my yard!

The most likely explanation is that the storm caused the damage. The onus of proof is on YOU to provide solid evidence that will convince an impartial jury that a vandal caused all this damage. I've checked out your yard -- there's no evidence that a vandal did this. There's plenty of evidence the storm did this. If you need to call us again, please be sure you can back up your assertions with facts. Otherwise, you're just wasting everyone's time.

  Yeah, I'll concede further, Athiests are a step up the food chain from theists. I still assert that no-holds-barred unyielding Agnosticism is the place to be. We're the only in the bunch who can be sure we aren't wrong.

  I do fully appreciate the "flying spaghetti monster" analogy, though, no I don't think any Athiest is obliged to "prove" that Zeus is not the man in charge. That isn't the end of the story, though. You can be right and not win the debate. I still don't have a positive answer/explanation out of you, so no smug certainty is allowed.
