after a transatlantic discussion with my wife we have both reached the conclusion that we will not be posting to this board again.
though we see the board as serving a useful purpose for some, it does not at present suit the path that we have chosen to walk to extract ourselves from the wts.. this board is in an invaluable place for those of you who have recently left the wts and need a place to stretch your wings and share you hurt and pain.
but once we learn to fly, it seems important that we should leave the nest as quickly as possible, lest we become caught in a vacuum between the wts and real life.

I've never understood this notion that Ex-JW's or non-JW's are oppressed by their freedom. I was from a very small congo with very few young people, I guess they never even tried a "life is better here" angle and just went with "those people are bad".

my story is that i am faded (not df'd, da'd, or even reproofed, just slowly stopped going and gave up privileges and responsibilities).
a good jw friend of mine is getting married in the kh and asked me to be his best man.
i'm curious as to what the rule is about getting married in the kh and who you can have standing up in your wedding?
Ya know, I know how deep the JW control system goes, but the notion that you can't have a friend be your best man, or even that you have to wonder, just because he hasn't served the congregation as much as you used to, is giving me shivers.
Doesn't the notion of a "Best Man" have pagan origins. Also, what about white wedding dresses, pagan. yep. How about flowers, flowers = fertility, yep pagan.

Choosing to invade Nazi occupied Europe when we were never attacked or in imminent threat of attack from them, and when the Nazis wanted alliance with us, was a NeoConservative theory.
Our interests were a free and democratic Europe. So we did it. I'm astonished nobody sees any parallel here with Iraq. A European claiming the United States is bad for invading Iraq is simultaneously rejecting the entire concept of America entering WWII. If you don't like American action in WWII, more power to you, I'm not impressed with the results either. The theory that you'll gain allies by defending freedom is proving to be a very Polly-Anna mindset. You need to account for foreign people being kinda slimy in their political attitudes.

By the way, the term "Neocon" is just a propaganda-style buzzword that the liberal left uses to insult those who don't march in lock-step with their political views.
Not a completely accurate view. Neo-conservatives have a vocal, self-proclaimed identity, with easily identifiable hallmarks.
It is true that "Neocon", like any other word, can be used perjoratively, but there is indeed a philosophy behind the word.
Liberal View: The policy of the United States should be to take action when it is within our power to help people who cannot help themselves. (for others)
Conservative View: The policy of the United States should be to take action when it is within our interests to do something. (for us)
Neoconservative View: It is directly our interests to help others. America benefits from a free world, not encumbered by problems. Global success is our success. etc. (ex. A free Iraq is good for America and for the Iraqis, Saddams Iraq is bad for the Iraqis, it is also bad for America, their interests and our interests are not different.)

I really have no idea where this irrational view of America comes from. I don't like Bush either. That doesn't encumber my ability to support a free Iraq or identify people like you as nutjobs in the slightest way. Don't sell ignorance as the one true religion Mr. Surrenderpants. How America is viewed is a whole different issue. You'll find that America's influence in the world is waning as power ebbs away and the dollar slides. One day, you'll probably wake up to a harsh new reality and possibly wish you'd had a slightly different foreign policy that made more friends and fewer enemies. Don't assume that your allies are your friends ... the level of dislike in England for instance is pretty high outside of the current political classes.
While American politics does have an impact on the rest of the word though we are free to say whatever we like about you and the idiots you elect. But hey, at least we don't follow your lead and have those we don't like assassinated do we?

If you hate me for wanting to support freedom in Iraq, be assured I have no illusions about whether you are a friend or not. (my decision, not yours).
