I think it's similar to 1984 and Doublethink. You 'believe' what you want to will yourself to believe, because you want it to be true, even though you know it's not. And you know you're only fooling yourself but you do it anyway. Kinda insane looking back on it.

That woman was at my Assembly recently. Everyone was talking about how dispicable it was that she was being forced to hand over the kiddies. Those POOR little babies that are so defencless against the evil governemnt. I just stood there and said nothing.

Close friends to be discouraged in Witchtower.
by hamsterbait inin some workplaces, colleagues are actively discouraged or even forbidden to socialize.
what is the rationale behind this?.
for centuries, the roman church has discouraged priests and nuns from having "particular" friends.

Pant-wettingly was the best term I could think of! It's accurate though. The kind of crap they think is fun...boring barnyard kids movies and and safe-safe music is sooooo DULL. And of course you couldn't possibly go to a nightclub lest you forget yourself and sleep with a total stranger. As if.

Ditching the Book Study. Is it just a Buy Now, Pay Later option for the WT?
by nicolaou init's unconfirmed and it may be nothing more than a rumour but it seems that the congregation book study may be about to see it's demise.
i think this could have a very positive effect as far as the watchtower is concerned for quite a few years.. the mood will be lifted.
there will be a whole new evening of freedom and the brothers will be happy for it, don't underestimate the goodwill this will generate.

Ditching the tuesday night meetings to work instead was the best thing I've done this year. Only good thing about it was the malteaser cheese cake. Sooo gooood. I can't believe I missed out on so many things as a result of going to those stupid meetings. Never again :D.

I really hated the way whenever I was with JWs, the only thing I felt I could discuss was the things the society approved. Not even about real spritual things. I felt quite bored at social activities they organised (the few). There was no fun, because they were too afraid of offending someone or of the Elders giving out. At a going-away party for one of the sisters, the music was cut off at 11 pm because everyone had to be bright and fresh for the ministry the next morning. And throughout the night the Elders kept cutting off the music and getting us to remember the REAL reason we were there-to give glory to Jehovah. I don't think JWs have proper, pant-wettingly downright inappropriate fun, or even know the meaning of. Like sometimes it's ok to have proper fun. Just thought I'd vent there. Ha.

Need help disassociating
by Lo inhi, i am 19 and from ireland.
i have been studying the bible with jws for more than a year, and enough is enough.
i simply decided i don't want to be answerable to a human organisation like that who like to think they have the answers that they simply cannot have.

Ha, I feel like such a n00b for not knowing how to quote here, but Jeff (I think) I really just love my phone number. The actual numbers. I know it's weird but they have personal significance for me. I love when phone numbers are interesting. That's so special of me... There's only really about 3/4 people from the Hall that would text me anyway so I'm ok in that area. I don't think I'd be able for confronting my study sister about any of the core beliefs of her faith. Just cos she's much better at speaking as if she knows a lot about certain topics and I wouldn't be able for a debate on this. I'd rather just fade away quietly. And go donate blood whenever I stop being terrified of the actual act itself. Needles freak the hell out of me!

Aw thanks for the kind words. Yes, I am still a highly dedicated Christian, only I don't want to have to be part of some man's idea of what religion should be to express that. I put my crucifix chain back on this morning and I'm going to wear it proudly from now on!! Idolatry my ass. And I can't change my number, aside from the impracticality, I absolutely LOVE my number! I'm worried about how to answer questions from people in the hall if I see them out and aboot though. For example, yesterday in Marks and Spencers I just saw one of the brothers and had to tell him why I wasn't at the meeting that sunday. I honestly can't wait to have my time back. No getting up ridiculously early on sundays, no missing my last lecture on a tuesday to spend an hour on a bus and not get home until God knows when. And the sister I was studying with had a problem with me donating my time and energy to doing volunteer work. Because obviously she didn't see the point in such 'worldly' activities. Ha. I already feel massively relieved.

No I'm not baptised! So I know I don't 'owe' them anything, but I still have such an over-active conscience that I'd find it very difficult to be so outrightly blatant. But I've built up quite a bond with the woman I study with and I don't know how to tell her I don't want to study anymore. I don't want her to try and stage some 'come back the the light' type conversation...

Hi, I am 19 and from Ireland. I have been studying the bible with Jws for more than a year, and enough is enough. I want out. I simply decided I don't want to be answerable to a human organisation like that who like to think they have the answers that they simply cannot have. I don't think they're a cult, just a religion who place too much belief in their own certainty, which, in this world, isn't a good trait. While I do accept a lot of what they teach, and was living 'in harmony with their principles' before I 'got the truth', there's a lot I don't agree with. Most of all I don't like their apoloclyptic idea that the world is coming to an end tomorrow. And that unless you're baptised you simply won't be saved. Doesn't wash with me. So how do I disassociate myself without upsetting any of the 'friends' I've made, and with minimal contact with them? I'd really rather fade into anonymity. Feel free to pm me and I'll give you my email address and we can talk at length. xo
