  What's The Worst Thing You Know Of That A JW Did?

  witnesses are supposed to be "exemplary" and not like the "world".

  yet some jws are pretty notorious.. did you know of any jws that did some real bad things?.

  i knew a pious witness who got caught twice trying to solicit prostitutes.

  I just recently found out that my mom and one sister, both hard core JWs, along with my other sister, no longer a JW, probated an old invalid Will when my dad died. The old Will left everything to my mom and she was executor. The old Will was signed but not notarized so she had to jump through all kinds of hoops and get affidavits certifying my dad’s signature and the signatures of the witnesses that signed the Will.

  I kept telling them there was a newer Will that was signed and notarized so they didn’t have to go through all that. They kept telling me they searched everywhere and could not find the new Will. Over a year later, it turns out the new Will was there all the time and my JW mother and JW sister have been lying to me.

  The new one left everything to the kids and my mother was not executor on it. My sisters agreed with mom that they should probate the old one and ignore the new one. I didn’t expect to get anything from him as I expected mom to get everything anyway but am very disappointed to find out they were lying the whole time about not having the new Will.

  Wonder if that’s what they consider theocratic warfare. At least I was relieved to learn my brother, an elder, was not involved in the fraud.

  Domestic Violence and Mosaic Threat Assessment

  a crime profiler was featured on oprah last week, and he introduced a test to assess the chances of homicide due to domestic violence called the mosaic threat assessment.

  i just completed the assessment and answered the questions based on my experience in my jw marriage that ended about 20 years ago.

  please note that these results aren't based on my current marriage.

  Thanks for posting this on here. I saw the show and sent the link to all my friends on email.

  One thing the doctor said that really impressed me was "When you are hit once you are a victim. When you are hit again you are a volunteer."

  Fortunately I was never hit by a man and did separate shortly after my 1st husband pushed me the first time. I had already had enough of the emotional abuse.

  What year Did you Stop Attending Meetings - How Long were you a JW ?

  i'm trying to compare some statistics and figures on this to share later in the thread to see if more long-time witnesses are exiting- or are newer witnesses exiting after a shorter period of time.

  and - are more people exiting in the last 10 to 15 years than before.

  so your answers would be helpful in looking into this .

  I was sitting reading and felt the ground rocking. My daughter didn't notice it but she was moving around cleaning out her closet.

  Guess I'll never forget the convention about 45 years ago. My mother made me a beautiful light pink sleeveless mohair dress with an empire waistline.

  All the guys wanted to touch it. hehehe

  i've seen this happen no less than 5 times.

  a lonely person, always a man is contacted, starts a bible study and starts attending meetings just to get a wife.

  none of them stayed once they realised the sisters where stuck up weridos.. am i alone in having seen this?

  Happened to me. My first husband studied with the congregation overseer (in the old days) and got baptised just so I would / could marry him.

  I was having second thoughts and thought about getting out of it but the circuit overseer's wife told me I couldn't change my mind and not marry him. Blondie posted the quotes from the WT back then (1968 I think) showing the Society actually had covered that subject a few months before I got married.

  After we got married he went to just a few meetings and gave one talk on Thursday night and that was it.

  I was probably a bit of a "stuck up weirdo" at the time but then who wouldn't be when I belonged to the only true religion on earth.

  I definitely could never have played the part of a "submissive door mat" though. He was probably disappointed when he realized that.

  Response to DF Action - Letter in Response

  a few months ago i saw a letter format in reponse to potential df'ing.

  i read it and thought it was great but never saved it - it looks like i will need it - sometime soon.

  could someobody post the body of that letter format so i can give it to my lawyer and also, has anybody had success with the letter staving off any action by the jc such as annoiuncements?

  My neighbors introduced me to the casinos here in Phoenix. We usually go to Harrahs. There is a free bus that picks us up nearby. They give us $10 for riding the bus. You have to use it in the slots (can't just cash it out). Harrahs also sends me a coupon booklet every month with $$$ coupons to use playing the slots.

  I've been to Biloxi MS a couple times and ended up winning a jackpot on one machine that was a little over $1000. That was the first of this year. Biloxi is still sending me $80 or $100 coupons for each month to come back and play again but I don't know when I'll get back that way. Both times I was there I got a room with a beautiful view of the gulf (for free).

  I also stayed at the hotel in the Harrahs at Bossier City LA in Dec last year. Played enough to earn points to just about pay for my hotel room and broke even on winning so that was a cheap stay. The room was beautiful also - king bed w/ med size tv; section sofa seating area w/ a large tv; and a whirlpool bath with a small tv. They are also sending me coupons to play for free and free rooms.

  Laughlin NV's Harrahs is right on the Colorado River. If you get the right room you have a beautiful view of the casino lights at night along the river. (always get free rooms there too Sunday - Thursday)

  The food buffet at Laughlin's is excellent. The one in Phoenix is only okay but one of the mid priced restaurants is very good. You can pay for your food with points you earn at the slots too.

  I rarely ever spent any of my own money the first year but now I will spend some. Since I get the free hotel rooms and free food I use what I would have spent for those other things in the slots.

  Harrah's also sends invitations to play in tournaments. So far I've played in slot, bingo and video poker tournaments but only won $50 at one of them.

  The casinos are hurting because of the economy and make some good offers to get you in the door. As long as you don't go overboard it's really a fun little vacation.

  Of course it took me about 30 years out of the WTS to get to the point where I can enjoy some of these sinful pleasures.
