i though it might be interesting to start a thread asking ones here to share their memories of the last 3-5 individuals (families) that were contacted via d-to-d, started to study, and all the way to baptism.
let's see if we see a pattern :-).
here's my recolection:.
Thanks for your replies...interesting reading!
ssn587: wow, that's a long dry spell.
from all the "annual general meeting" notes floating around, one quotation stands out in particular:.
many older ones already are telling the younger ones how they regretted not getting an education, pursuing a lucrative career, saving up money or not having a retirement plan.
the sad truth is that such ones are like the murmurers of israel when coming out of egypt.. what does this remark tell us?.
Excellent observation. I noticed this too and shook my head (and probably said 'wtf' under my breath....I was at work)
I fully agree with this statement too: "The vast majority of JWs younger than, oh, say, 35, view the religion as little more than a social club"
Before I lost my zeal, and faith in the org. I was an under 35'er (MS) and we very very rarely contributed. Although believing it was the truth, and attending, we viewed it as a social club, although probably sub-consiously.

here's my recolection:
1) single woman with young son, (pretty sure on welfare) hard time finding job.
2) nice older man who's wife suddenly left him (after approx 25 years marriage) - had been contacted before, never any interest.
3) very nice 50ish couple, husband has debilitating chronic illness. wife suffers from extreme depression. (probably due to caring for her husband)
4) 20ish girl in college (still can't figure her out & speculate why she might have joined)
*my disclaimer: I'm not judging anyone or there circumstances, we all suffer in life in one degree or another. It just seems obvious that people with huge problems are seemingly the ones I see being attracted to the love bombing, instant-dinner-invitations, etc...
i just watched the evening news and a report about college grads looking for jobs.
who do they feature but a journalism major who can't find a job.
no sh*t. don't get a degree in journalism...or comparative literature, etc., if you want a job.. the report then announced that unemployment for young people is almost 15%.
Seems quite typical. It's funny, (I had to put some token time in last week. Fortunately, we drove around alot and drank coffee :-) anyway, One of the pompass, idiot elders made a very similar comment about how wise it is to always pay attention to the slave and simplify (puke) because what a waste of time and money to be going to a university with so much unemployment. I thought, 'are you freeking kidding me' ?!?! how many of "our poor brothers" our out of work because they went into: construction, janatorial, (insert typical jw job here ) and don't have any options, got married at 19 etc etc.
The only smart ass comment I ended up making was ( he has many health problems) : "It's a good thing your doctor got such a great university education" .....and towards the end of the conversation, someone did comment how many are unemployed in the hall, because of the economy. and not having much training.
It all ended with .....you guesed it: "we really need the new system soooo bad"
i have a good life these days.
i have a wonderful new husband who shares his lovely family with me.
i have 'worldly' friends who i'm very fond of.
I'll look forward to hearing you results. I just started a thread, asking opinions about anxiety / depression meds (I'm still in) and posters on that thread mentioned counseling. So keep us posted if this helps.
just wondering if any ex or current "concious class" dubbers out there take anything; and if it works!
my family is still in and with everything else going on in my life, sometimes i consider asking my doc about zolft / prosac.. thanks for any replies!.
i should just ask 85% of my congregation-mates ... lol.
Thanks for your comments. Serinitynow, good idea I may bypass my GP and go to a psychiatrist for a full exam, and tell him/her that I no longer believe the religion I was raised in, but am stuck with wife and parents being full believers. Beside any meds prescribed to help 'deal' I think it will be good to verbalize to another human that I don't believe anymore. and maybe they have some experience with poor stuck-in cult people like me :-)

i went into my favorite cafe this afternoon for lunch and saw a husband and wife that go to the congregation i used to go to.
the woman is a pioneer and has been for years and her husband is an elder who i've talked to a couple of times since i stopped going to meetings 3 years ago but i have not talked to her in 3 years.. when i got my lunch, i looked up and noticed them sitting by the window so i went over to them and said hello.
he said hi but when i said hello to the woman she just kinda looked at me.
Thanks for sharing that experience, brother ;-) I enjoyed how you handled it, a good referance for me for future encounters (when/if I ever do the full fade) I got to thinking, maybe the elder is having his own crisis of conscience and sees through the bs; as it seems you did when you were an elder. Countless elders on this board were "serving" while having doubts. So I was thinking in reading what you wrote that maybe he silently agreed with you and was even jelous of your new life, and obviously being in such an awkward situation he didn't have much to say. Is he an older elder type or younger? What do you think of my slant on it? Just curious.
Thanks again.
per a recent letter to elders:.
beginning september 1, there will be a change to the way attendance is recorded at congregation meetings.. currently, attendance is counted at 4 of the 5 meeting (public talk, wt study, congregation "bible" study, and service meeting).. but after sept. 1, meeting attendance will only be taken at 2 of the meetings - during the "first quarter" of the wt study, and also at the cbs.. .
no reason in given for the change in the letter, and i can't figure out why myself.. the numbers are not published anywhere - the only "official" record is a 6 month average the co puts together during his visit.. why request less information from the congregations, especially when it "costs" nothing to accumulate it in the first place?
xPeter...I think Sir82 stated it quite simply in the begining; go back and read the start of the thread, I think it will be clear to you then.
