@NomadSoul...If they did cancel meeting, I applaud their Elders (just this once). A classy thing to do considering these circumstances. I'm sure NY or their CO wouldn't approve.
@Pmljohn...I am 99.99% sure this isn't a ruse. She would have to give up family and friends forever and leave them to think she was kidnapped. I know crazy things happen...but not in this case.

the bible is sexist.. in order to establish that birthdays cannot be celebrated, the society references two obscure passages that mentions someone getting killed at a birthday celebration.
however, nowhere in the scriptures does it say that birthdays are wrong.. but then, when the bible is very clear about something such as this:.

I would say they are allowed to comment/give talks beacuse when they comment or act out a demo / talk they are technically not "teaching"...just commenting.
It's funny, cause usually the sisters are smarter than the bros. anyway. :-) I remember being so nervous condicting Bk study when I was an MS because several of the sisters comments were better than any conducting / "teaching" I could do!
AnneB....I know what you mean, I think we feel that way cause we do feel closer to them becuse we have something huge in commen with them...Being a JW (inactive, non-believeing, or whatever...)
It's interesting how far this story is being spread via facebook amoung Dubs. It's natural to want to do anything even tiny (like posting on FB) to try and "help", although we can be about 99% sure a FB post wont help find her.

i've been giving some thought recently to what's going on in the minds of the individual governing body members, and what makes them tick.
the process of listening to their talks for my "getting to know you" youtube video series, though draining, has been very enlightening.
i now feel i know some of their individual personalities a little better than i did previously.. then there has been the tumultuous events of 2012. it's been interesting to note the way the governing body has responded to some of these issues, and how in most cases their responses have been woefully inadequate or even counter-productive as regards their long-term interests.. for example:.
The now-infamous October 1st letter, in which the Society is actually taking on even MORE liability in the handling of cases of alleged child abuse than ever before.

I find this absolutely crazy that the Legal Dept. would let the Oct 1st letter leave the ivory tower making them even more liable for the future...I am dumbfounded by it. Unless the Lawyer Bros. are like "ah f$%k it' Let the old bastards screw themselves..." It's just so weird.
