When you were a JW, Did you think Prayers did any good?
by tresdecu inthe missing 21 year old woman in oregon got me thinking...so many jws comment on her fb page 'praying for you'...'constant daily prayers' etc.
what is the point?
i know it is a natural human emotion, to want to contribute in some small way when something bad happens.

I know it is a natural human emotion, to want to contribute in some small way when something bad happens. But if she turns up dead, Does that mean Jah. didn't answer their prayers? What if she is found? Wonderful!!! Well in that case, he answered their prayers right?! That's what so many will think. Why did he (hypothetically) answer prayers about Whitney and why didn't he answer the prayers of everyone else that prays for a JW in a time of need.
I guess this isn't just JWs but every Christian that prayes for something. I know I used to do it...illogical, cause I knew that 'time and unforseen occurance befall us all'
I guess I am just rambling. Christians, believers...give me your thoughts. Atheists give me yours too...lol

@Barbara, I answered.
They just had a news conf. Nothing huge yet, except for the phone...they talked about her cell phone that was found last night. They are doing analysis now, dna, info on smart phone etc.
One thing I have to remember...things don't happen as fast as on CSI. They are going over tons of video surveillance. They are on it, but it just takes time. Seems like they have several different agencies involved, incl FBI.
@James Woods. No - They probably would not be as concerned if she were inactive, or faded or "worse". Sadely all the "prayers" expressed on her FB page are an outpouring of conditional love, because she is an active JW.

Yeah, I checked out her FB last night. So many pictures that show that she had a pretty happy life. They were looking forward to having kids together..seeing these pics just breaks my heart to think of what may have happened. Dammit.
Sick F%$#ing POS's out there, that hurt people...
There is a news conferance latter this morning with the Police...hopefully some new light on the case (no pun intended)

@NomadSoul...If they did cancel meeting, I applaud their Elders (just this once). A classy thing to do considering these circumstances. I'm sure NY or their CO wouldn't approve.
@Pmljohn...I am 99.99% sure this isn't a ruse. She would have to give up family and friends forever and leave them to think she was kidnapped. I know crazy things happen...but not in this case.
I will be following this closely...hope they can get some leads today!

Why does the Society allow women to speak in the congregations?
by Badfish ini know this sounds sexist, but you know what?
the bible is sexist.. in order to establish that birthdays cannot be celebrated, the society references two obscure passages that mentions someone getting killed at a birthday celebration.
however, nowhere in the scriptures does it say that birthdays are wrong.. but then, when the bible is very clear about something such as this:.

I would say they are allowed to comment/give talks beacuse when they comment or act out a demo / talk they are technically not "teaching"...just commenting.
It's funny, cause usually the sisters are smarter than the bros. anyway.
I remember being so nervous condicting Bk study when I was an MS because several of the sisters comments were better than any conducting / "teaching" I could do! -

AnneB....I know what you mean, I think we feel that way cause we do feel closer to them becuse we have something huge in commen with them...Being a JW (inactive, non-believeing, or whatever...)
It's interesting how far this story is being spread via facebook amoung Dubs. It's natural to want to do anything even tiny (like posting on FB) to try and "help", although we can be about 99% sure a FB post wont help find her.
