Finklestein ... oops, sorry I missed that before I posted.
Maybe follow Fink's link above and post any additional comments on that thread since it's longer.
last night on 20/20, they did an interview with leah remini (american actress know for king of queens tv show) she was raised in scientology since the age of 8, and recently left rather publicly.
she re-enforced what we all know, that they are bat shit crazy (like any cult) but also talked about how hard is it to leave something that's been a part of you for so long.. so many interesting parallels to our world (former world) of jw'dumb.
it's a great ep to watch with someone you are trying to awaken.

"I think watching experiences of people in other high control groups / cults is very powerful."
Yes, well said. She talked about how painful shunning is, the fact that members report on each-other, she's very open and honest and admits she took part in these things too. Even after learning some of the weirder teachings like 'Xenu' galactic warrior (LOL) she still continued on, she just wasn't ready to part with it, and the thought of not being able to talk to her family if she did so.
One scene showed a meeting room, that looked so much like a kingdom hall. She stated the she is "an Apostate" ... very interesting episode.
welcome to warwick safety orientation!
each warwick volunteer is required to view the entire three-hour program and complete the five short quizzes one week before arriving at warwick.
to benefit fully from each of the five sections, we recommend that you set aside time in a quiet location with minimal distractions and give the program your full attention.

watchtower says that evil and suffering exist at present to vindicate jehovah as being the only one qualified to govern; to bear witness to man's inability to govern himself independent of god and under satan's direction.
the claim is made that the questions raised by satan regarding god's motives as universal sovereign can only be answered by allowing humans to see the evil and suffering that results when man lives independent of god's protection and direction.. watchtower and jws seem to think that this is the best theodicy in the world.
but there are some serious flaws in it.. 1. such a theodicy suggests that all perfect and intelligent creation, up until the advent of adam and eve, did not know god and his ways well enough to be confident that his motives as universal sovereign are pure.
....charles taze russell's mom and dad didn't have sex back on that night in june of 1851.... weird that a married couple getting horny could affect so many lives 164 years later.. just a random friday thought.

John...thanks for the suggestion, looks good. I love those kind of movies.
Faye...mommy dearest ;-)...I know right?! Those thoughts plague me sometimes laying in bed, all the 'what ifs' crazy how the universe works.
I mean what if I did get to play football in high school.....but then had broken my neck, and become a quadriplegic. Would I rather be a non-witness paralyzed guy, or a fading / sometimes depressed JW that feels like I missed out on so many aspects of life.....ugh...on and on and on we could go.
Thanks for playing along :-)

haven't read it all yet, but 15 skeletons have been found in south africa, near jo'burg... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/science/science-news/11855405/homo-naledi-a-new-species-of-human-discovered-in-a-cave-in-south-africa.html.
I was going to post a new thread on this fascinating subject...but decided to do a search instead. ;-) novel idea..
I can't wait for this to come on discovery channel on the 16th. gonna 'accidentally' flip to it when my wife is with me.
How does religion seriously fight this science stuff...it seems like it's getting to be too damning.
Does the WT acknowledge Neanderthals?
at 20:00 - 21:30 in his testimony, mr. geoffrey jackson - in answer to mr. stewart's question about the governing body claiming to be god's spokespersons - claimed that it would be presumptuous of them to say that they were the only spokespersons which god was using.
mr. jackson doesn't seem to know what he and his fellow g.b.
members - and the providers of his lifestyle, the wtbts - actually teach as "bible truth.
I think we should all call the WT HQ and direct quote this A hole....vs. a damning WT quote and simply ask the question, which is the truth?
Imagine them fielding several hundred calls...I will do this as soon as I get a chance. Any other volunteers? We could post the Desk puppets response on a new thread.
