Okay - this is slightly off the point, but it just happened in the last few days. My faithful, almost 80 year old father (baptized in the late 30's) served as an elder until about ten years ago when all five of his children went apostate. He was removed ( I beleive he was releived). Last week they reappointed him an elder. He shakes from the stroke, he has had two hip replacements and can barely limp along. His 96 year mother-in-law is his constant care in his home. He puts in as much service time as he can and now they want him giving more talks, doing more service, sitting in on committee meetings etc. What the hell? Can't they leave the poor man to have a little peace in the little time he has left? I am sure this will speed up that not far off trip to the grave.

As a Witness - What did you Notice in How Elders Got Appointed ?
by flipper ini found it amazing being raised in the witnesses to see exactly who got appointed sometimes as an elder.
it seemed that the criteria in my opinion had more to do with getting 10 hours a month in field service, answering at meetings, carrying microphones as a ministerial servant, or handling the magazine or literature counter !
in doing these " functions " and attending meetings on a regular basis - a man was thought to be considered " spiritually strong " and qualify to be an elder and serve on judicial committees judging people's personal problems.

Beautiful silence for 4 1/2 years. Not even a vist or call to my 18 and 19 year old daughters.
However, my fanantical father will not shut up and now that he has met many of my friends in the neighborhood - he is calling on them (not even his territory).

Newly Exiting JW's ( Last 5 years ) How are you Doing in Life? Let Us Know
by flipper inconsidering the fact we've had so many newbies here i thought it would be good to just open it up to you folks to see how life is going for you since you exited the witnesses ?
it's hard many times to move on- however with lots of ex-witnesses on the board here who have been through similar experiences - perhaps those of us who have been out awhile can give you someideas on how to move on in your post jw life to make it a little easier .
so fire away newbies and recently exited jw 's.

To have the wrath and scorn of one's parents simply due to not wanting their religion is hard to take. However these last four years without meetings, service and guilt have been wonderful.

What Stupid Things Were You Counseled For?
by minimus ini've always been told that i have a very good personality, that i'm humorous, etc.. one elder called me over and said that i was "smiling too much".
the other elders talked to the elder who counseled me and he came back to say that i should be like i was .

I am in Boulder, CO and we are expecting 15,000 to show up for 4/20 today. The police all look the other way. The air will be absolutely thick with smoke by this afternoon. My boss will probably open all the windows this afternoon so we employees can enjoy the party too.

I have an application from Harvard, one from Michigan University, and a couple from the East Coast
That's funny because every major school is on-line application only.
you have a 4.0 grade average and scored very high on the A.C.T.
A 4.0 means nothing to these schools. Most good students have so many AP classes that they graduate with far more than a 4.0. and getting money to go to Harvard is unheard of unless you have an incredible talent in one specific are (i.e football, playing the basoon etc.)
