Terry, That was absolutely fantastic!!!
This elder reminded me of something Joe Grundy said on another thread......
The few (JW;s) I have met tended to be ignorant, arrogant and tell lies
elder: "i'm not sure i know what you mean by 'diversity.'.
elder: "well, it's not quite like that.
elder: "um.

so i went out today with my broken leg and got accosted by an old lady, with some magazines.. it was my first ever encounter with a jw in ten years, and i had said 'i know you are jw's, i'm not interested thank you.
" twice.....then she started talking about my broken leg and how wonderful we are made and how amazing the healing process is.... and that's when it all started...."i used to be a bethelite pioneer, now i'm an atheist doctor...".
she was with me a good 30 mins, her elder husband left very annoyed but she stayed, and she was dying to hear everything i spurted out, despite aggressively defending every point, from military engines to paedophilia.
a little background first....i have been dating my boyfriend for a year.
both of us are disfellowshipped.
we attended the same congregation 7+ years ago when we were both married.
greetings, folks: so, it's been 40 years since 1975. and, if you were actively involved with the witnesses back then, the mindset of many was, that by early autumn of 1975, it would mark the anniversary of 6000 years of human existence.
and, the hope was then, that it would mark the start of the 1000-year of christ, from the heavenly realm.
but, looking back now, 40 years ago, in june of 1975, only 3 more months remained until early autumn.
I was 10 and terrified of what was about to happen. My parents, who lived through terrible religious abuse during WW2, prepared us kids for some very horrible days ahead. We were about to be beaten, starved and put in camps similar to Nazi Germany. We were going to be separated from everyone we loved and my mother told me that most likely we would have to eat my beautiful Persian cat Niki.
But, I am happy to report Niki lived to the ripe age of 18, passing away in 1978 and we never had to eat her to survive the Great Tribulation of 1975!!!!!!
it seems incredibly difficult.
those who leave the org.
(or fade) no longer have anything in common with jehovah's witnesses, nor do they want to stick around to get radiated by the fear and guilt that saturates every aspect of a witnesses' life.. i've lost all but one of my jw friends quite simply because i can no longer condone the evil things that they condone.
How do you manage to keep JW friendships after you left the organization
Why would you want to keep their friendship? I judge friendship by two things.....How interesting you are and how much interest you show in others. My interests this week include Bernie Sanders, Donald Trump, the new strain of weed and the confederate flag. I cannot think of one witness that could show interest or be interesting on any of those subjects and in return I cannot show interest or be interesting regarding anything they want to talk about. It is a lose-lose situation.
i just watched this film on netflix.
if you haven't seen it its worth watching just for the ways he demolishes the religious advocates he interviews.. the most worrying things i saw in it were the us senator who says that having a high iq isn't a criteria for being senator and also all the muslims he interviews who despite claiming to have read the quran also claim that islam is a religion of peace..

below, the opening paragraph.
This looks like a great read for a Friday night!!
Thank you Terry!
they just posted the simplified august study watchtower on jw.org.. paragraph 11 of the "expectation!
" article says this:.
"so even if we feel that we have been waiting a long time, this does not mean that the end is far away or that it is not coming in our lifetime.".
FT: "So even if we feel that we have been waiting a long time, this does not mean that the end is far away or that it is not coming in our lifetime."
Yep, I'm confident that they have it right this time for sure.
if we are in the congregation, do you think our comments or questions actually reach elders or others in the congregation?
do our comments on this board affect witnesses to the point of questioning their faith?
what on earth have jw org got to offer?.
one hundred and thirty six years this july of the worlds most published and least read magazine: the inglorious watchtower.
nothing in it which is original has been of any use to mankind.
