i knew some bethelites that were very effeminate and i remember 4 women who were suspected of being lesbians by many in the congregation.
they eventually moved away and were very vocal against males, especially elders..
I had two room mates in Bethel that were gay. Anyone remember Joel Reed? or Jerry North (at the farm). I must say they were very nice and considerate. As with all my room mates I never spent any time with them. I wonder where they are now.
Joel Reed was my brother's roommate in Bethel for awhile and he was also Fred Franz's personal secretary. He was as gay as they came. Mann377, you can find him on Facebook (And believe me, Joel has come a long, long way since his Bethel days)
i'm just curious to get people's views on this.. the bible students seem to start of as quite a liberal group under charles taze russell, albeit he had some whacky teachings going on.
obviously things began to change under rutherford.
but what decade did it become abundantly clear that the society was indeed high control religion or even labeled a cult?.
When this organization stopped letting people freely walk out the door, they then became a full blown cult.
so in my part of the world, they are currently holding the week long elders schools.

I remember when my father went for two weeks in the early-mid 70's. He was the sole bread winner with five children at home. It really put a financial strain on our family.

I no longer need the therapy and camaraderie like I did when I first left. However, I still check in here everyday to see what is happening in JW land and to see if my favorite posters have posted. This is a hard site to quit.
tired of listening to your local elders giving the "special" talk ever year after the memorial?
well don't worry, as of next year we will be spicing things up for your enjoyment.. not only will we be having the talk before the memorial (i know, wild huh), but we will be treating you to the talk via video starring our famous speakers from bethel so you can see how a talk should be given (after all bethel does boast the best speakers in any country, right?!).

A lot of people who visit the KH for a meeting are very often "one and done". It seems bringing your bible student to the special talk before the Memorial could really hurt the 2018 Memorial attendance.

i have often wondered if the elders would go this route with me since they knew i was actively sinning, but as far as i know, no jc was ever formed.
I was disfellowshipped in absentia.....
I had moved to another city and had not been to a meeting in a couple of years and they still hunted me down like a wild animal. The elders in my original congregation kept sending me certified letters that I refused to sign for. They would leave messages on my phone of dates and times of committee meetings that they said they would be in attendance of whether I showed or not. I heard through the grape vine that it went through three separate committees and two congregations before they gave up and just read the announcement that I was Df'ed. They then hunted down my elderly parent's congregation, yet in another city to get the news to me through my parents that I had gotten the axe.
....And all I wanted was just to be left alone. Which I eventually achieved.
