I couldn't afford that if it was to pay a kidnapper to give me back my kid. Yeah, no sympathy from me either.

Teaching my brother the scientific/skeptical approach
by B_Deserter inmy brother bought home some products being sold by a person he met who is involved in an mlm scheme (i.e.
amway, quixtar, etc.).
he decided to give me a test for "perfect" brand water (site: drinkperfectwater.com.

Of course to really test it right you need to perform the test a hundred times over. Otherwise you are commiting the fallacy of "small sample." Definitive experiments always involve large numbers of tests.
Some YUK! brands for me are Dasani and the worst in the world is Danon from Canada. Pure piss in my opinion. -

When has Science Ever been proven wrong by the Bible?
by gaiagirl inthe watchtower sunday made a claim to the effect that when science conflicts with the bible, the bible has always been proven to be correct.
if i had been there, i would have asked "could you provide some specific examples"?.
i'm thinking that reality is actually the other way, science always disproves the bible.

Jaguar bass says: "At one point science taught that the earth was flat."
This statement is completely false. It is a myth propagated by Bible believers. At no time did any secular source ever proclaim that the earth was flat, unless it was intimidated by the christian church. Pagan civilizations had known the earth was a sphere from before there was written history as far as we can tell.
It was bible believers, not scientists who put forth the flat earth myth based on the scripture in Isaiah. Also, it was a belief common only in western europe where the christian church held power. People not directly enfluenced by the christian church have never believed that the earth was flat.
Also, there was no such thing as a "scientist" in the ages in question, at least there was no such thing in pre-christian times. Back then there were just people with inquisitive minds who did experiments. Scientist is a relatively new categorization. They were usually referred to as Philosophers, not scientists.
I may have to dig up some references on this I realize, but you can start with "Logic and Contemporary Rhetoric" by Kahane, which discusses common myths. -

Questions concerning 607
by beavis ini am sorry to hash and rehash this old topic, but i have a friend that has continually asked the wt's chronology of 607 and that historians do not agree with their thoughts on their selection of this date to "fit" their ideaolgies.
could someone give me information from credible historians that absolutely prove that 607 is impossible?
this person has looked up information and what they have found so far is that most websites or some persons on this site do not show conclusively that 607 is not credible.

Why don't you just read "Gentile Times Reconsidered?" It's as simple as that. I'll send you my copy if you want. It is very easy to understand. A well written and exhaustive study of the subject.

Being told what to say in Convention interviews
by passwordprotected inhas anyone else heard tell of interviewees in convention parts being told what to say?
the way i've heard it is you're contacted to be interviewed in a convention talk because you've had a great experience in some form or other and they need you to boast about it.
so, you meet with the brother handling the assignment and you go through your experience with him (boast about it).

I was told once that I had been chosen for an interview at the circuit assembly. I was interviewed along with a buddy and someone we didn't know. We were told to choose between three different responses. We were told to choose the one that most sounded like yourself or your current situation. So we got n touch with the other brother and we divied up the written responses. I really wanted another one but the goon we didn't know was adamant about getting to give one particular response. I don't remember thinking there was anything remotely dishonest about the whole thing. I didn't bat an eye.
