Have You Ever Spoken To An Elder About Your True Feelings About "The Truth"?
by minimus ini've has conversations with certain elder friends but i never gave them a total pummeling, at least i haven't yet.. what about you?.

Early on in my exit I had a visit from two elders. One of them was a rabidly anti-Catholic ex Catholic. I told him that I felt towards the Watchtower the same way he felt about the Catholic church.
I can't believe I didn't get DF'd/DA'd for that.
I actually had one elder tell me that he thought the org had become too "pharasaical"!

the Ireland branch--> issues over the years
by WildeLover inhi all.
the irish branch has had lots of drama over the years from john may in the 1980s to the recent removal of practically all the branch committee in the mid noughties to its being closed down quite recently.. i heard on the grapevine that two of the branch committee had actually come to physical blows and there was blood on the carpet.. also many many witnesses spoke of the totalitarian environment there.. does anyone have anything further to corroborate or add to this?.

Almost all of the high ranking brothers in Ireland aren't Irish. They are/were British. There was a big push in the late 80s for British witnesses to "move where the need is greater" - ie. Ireland. One in particular was a hard-arsed Scot called Ewan Watt (he wrote articles for the Awake magazine - Awake correspondent in Ireland). I could actually imagine him getting stuck in with his fists. I know there was a falling out some years ago. Only 4-5 circuits in Ireland and I think there was a lot of jealousy over who was given which circuit. I think they created the fifth circuit just for him.
About 5 years ago they sent in two American brothers to run the branch. Back then I remember having the feeling that they had been sent in to "sort things out".
I'm really out of the loop these days. Been out for almost 4 years.

Only in America?
by cedars inabout 10 years ago i visited the three new york bethels - patterson, brooklyn and wallkill.
at the time, i was still very much mentally infatuated with the organization, so the trip was filled with wonder and nostalgia.
i can remember being told by a tour guide at wallkill that they were now so familiar with things constantly changing and being improved that the information they give on tours can quickly become out-of-date.

My take on this (maybe I'm ignoring the organisational elements you are talking about) is that it is the freedom of religion laws which allow groups like this to flourish in the US. It does seem that America is a breeding ground for cults and fringe religions.

Speaking of the "mentally diseased" article. It's a shame that the comments page on the newspaper website is no longer active. It would be very useful to have this as refutational material.

Oh, and of course the anecdote itself is complete fiction.

so, am I wrong to now think that the watchtower's shunning policy now equals scientology's...
Yep, you are wrong. It's not the Watchtower's policy - it's Jehovah's. I'd love to see this get publicity as another poster mentioned. Anyone with a brain can see through what they are trying to pull.
Azazel asked:
"Does this constitute a hate crime?"
I don't think so. They've worded it so carefully. They haven't instructed anyone to shun anyone else. They are merely expressing their "sincerely held religious beliefs" that God wishes them to shun. We all know that the rank and file believe they speak for God, and so in effect they have instructed believers to shun. But legally, I don't think there is anything that can be done to stop them printing this s***. It does add to the pile of hypocrisy to throw back in their faces though.
