What really is Jesus saying about his coming?
Does he really say that on that day the wicked will be destroyed as in the flood?
Or is he just saying that he will come as suddenly and unexpectedly as the flood came?
What is Jesus telling by saying that one will be taken and the other abandoned?
Why does Jesus not say that one will be taken and the other destroyed on that day?
Matthew 24:37 For just as the days of Noah were, so the (arrival and) presence of the Son of man will be. 38 For as they were in those days before the Flood, eating and drinking, men marrying and women being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, 39 and they took no note until the Flood came and swept them all away, so the presence of the Son of man will be. 40 Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken along and the other abandoned. 41 Two women will be grinding at the hand mill; one will be taken along and the other abandoned. 42 Keep on the watch, therefore, because you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.
So we see that when Jesus comes in a very spectacular way, the whole world will see it. Governments will become frightened and come together to counter Jesus when he comes again after his marriage feast. Because first are the chosen ones gathered from earth and then the lamb’s marriage feast is held. After that Jesus will come with his chosen ones and his angels to execute the wicked from the earth.
Revelation 16:14 They are, in fact, expressions inspired by demons and they perform signs, and they go out to the kings of the entire inhabited earth, to gather them together to the war of the great day of God the Almighty. 15 “Look! I am coming as a thief. Happy is the one who stays awake and keeps his outer garments, so that he may not walk naked and people look upon his shamefulness.” 16 And they gathered them together to the place that is called in Hebrew Armageddon.
Here we see again that in verse 15 that Jesus comes suddenly and his chosen ones need to stay awake until this. It's only under this condition they will be granted to be taken up to heaven. Right after this the Lamb’s marriage feast is held in heaven.
Revelation 19:9 And he tells me, “Write: Happy are those invited to the evening meal of the Lamb’s marriage.”
After that Lamb’s marriage feast is concluded the next phase begins according to the order of events in Revelation 19.
Revelation 19:19 And I saw the wild beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to wage war against the one seated on the horse and against his army. 20 And the wild beast was caught, and along with it the false prophet that performed in front of it the signs with which he misled those who received the mark of the wild beast and those who worship its image. While still alive, they both were hurled into the fiery lake that burns with sulfur. 21 But the rest were killed off with the long sword that proceeded out of the mouth of the one seated on the horse. And all the birds were filled with their flesh.
