Attending another church is grounds for disfellowshipping
by passwordprotected ini'm listening to part two of hobo ken's first judicial committee meeting.
the part of the proceedings i'm at is where the 3 elders on the committee are interrogating hobo about his fellowship with my wife and me (we had started attending a church, this had become known to our respective families, so to save them having to testify against us we dad).
one elder in particular has a thorn up his backside (and he knows who he his) because hobo, iknowall and their kids went on holiday with us pre-hobo's disfellowshipping.

So if the government has pledged to uphold the UNDHR and Article 18 of the UNHDR states that everyone has the right to religious freedom and to change their religion, surely the WTS can be held accountable for denying this right to it's membership.

Excuse me, but I'm not laughing at this. I'm laughing at those who are happy to place this amount of power on the opinions of scientists. You seem to be missing my point....
Fritz Haber was a Nobel Prize winning scientist who's science is still felt powerfully today; he saved millions from starvation. However, when WWI broke out he helped develop and perfect chemical warfare.
Was Haber purely interested in the well being of other human beings, or was SCIENCE the absolute power in his life?
So, eugenics and this whole business of deciding who lives and who dies...scientists are playing a massive role in advising governments on how to implement it.
Do we really trust scientists that much??

I'm listening to part two of Hobo Ken's first judicial committee meeting. This elder and his wife were originally planning on going away with us, but when I stopped attending meetings they made it clear they would not associate with us anymore.
While on holiday we'd made a little video with the kids (I'm not in it, neither is my wife, so quite why this is used as some sort of evidence of associating with "disfellowshipped" ones is mental) and the video was on YouTube. My mother-in-law had seen it and reported it to the elders, as you do...
What's interesting, though, is one of the elders says;
"They've been attending another church which is obviously enough for us..." at this point he changes tack slightly. But it's clear what he's driving at; attending another church is grounds for disfellowshipping. This is obvious as he probes at Hobo Ken with unsubstantiated claims that he'd been attending a church too.
How on earth can the WTS make this policy square with the UNDHR Article 18??? Has anyone taken action against the WTS for breach of their human rights AND for breaching the International Convention for Civil and Political Rights, which the UK and USA are bound up to keep?

Don't believe me about eugenics? Don't believe me about the Government defining whether we deserve to live or die based upon how much THEY think WE are "worth" in dollars
And who do the Government get advice from on how to determine who lives or who dies? Scientists. Whoops...it's time to roll out the Hitler reference....

@ leftbelow - what a fantastic post, hands-down one of the best I've ever read on JWN. Don't let anyone hint at taking away these blessings from you; you know what's real and what isn't and when we've felt God, we know that it's for real.
Personally speaking, we had lost a baby son 6 years before we left the WTS. He died shortly after he was born due to a birth defect. My wife had carried from then onwards the desire for a little dark haired baby. Our oldest son always wanted a little brother. Two years later we welcomed our daughter, Grace, into the world. But we always had our little dark haired baby son in our hearts.
When we stepped out of the WTS in faith last summer, my wife immediately - and unexpectedly (believe me, this was the surprise to end surprises) - fell pregnant. In March of 2009 we welcomed our dark haired baby son, Fergus, into the family.
Throughout our journey, we had our hearts healed. We've lost family and friends, but every single one of them has been replaced by new friends, some of whom are like fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters to us (and those who know the church we go to can attest to the fine people who are now in our lives). God has blessed us.
I personally always carried a feeling and sense of low self worth. It affected every single one of my relationships. I've been healed of this and blessed with a new personality that doesn't major on doubt and low self worth. God has blessed my heart.
Financially we've received blessings. We've taken financial problems (I left my employment to run my own business this year, coupled with a calling to serve in the church in some capacity, so I work part-time) to God in prayer and every single time there has been miraculous intervention. The latest saw us praying over some hefty up-coming bill and asking God to bless us and intervene as meeting this bill was beyond our means. The next day a cheque was pressed into my hand as a 'gift' for some pro bono work I'd carried out. The cheque covered the bills. God blessed our trust in him.
More importantly, rather than following an aimless false prophet, we're now blessed by walking with Christ in our lives. Our children are free from a cult and have their whole lives ahead of them.
LeavingWT, thanks for starting this thread, it's been a real encouragement to read.

drama dc 2009
by inbetween inthe drama was really ridicolous, man, but i noticed, in some of the jw objected to it as well,.
first of all my wife, she said it doesnt feel right, and she strongly disliked the music (she has no idea of my being at this forum btw).
then some friends, who also complained about it, but just to us, because they know, we do not judge them for their questions and almost doubts on some things.... i m sure there were more, but they just dont think out loud, and keep it to themselves.... anybody similar experiences ?.
