The point is, though, by not attending, and thus not sullying herself with pagan rituals, she was showing 'goodness'. Be that as it may, presenting her act of goodness as a stand against being put under pressure to attend a dying girl's last birthday party is a bit shocking.

Y'all need to understand. Her being asked to go to this party put her under pressure. Now I'm sure the young sister felt bad about her friend dying, but to be standing at a district convention, essentially boasting about displaying Christ-like goodness by not caving to the pressure to attend the (pagan) celebration was as nauseating as anything else.
This is Christ's love in action?? Hopefully she'll look back on the way she treated her dying friend and the way she put learning to sign to deaf people ahead of spending time with her dad* and realise how foolish she was.
*The cynic in me wonders if she explains not spending time with her dad to herself as, "Well, he's going to die at armageddon anyway, so why bother being close with him now?" -

Why does the WTBT Society exist?
by Princess Daisy Boo inthey don't really have the truth so it can't be that?
unless "they" at the top truly believe it - do you think they do?.
is it for monetary gain?

Well, how else can Jesus' words in Matt 24:14 be fulfilled? Of course Jesus needs a corporation on earth to be able to do this, dummy!
Ok, I see what he said in Matt 28 about having all authority in heaven and on earth, I get it, but how else could he make sure the good news would be preached around the world without a legal department and printing presses? Jeezlouise, get with the brainwashing program. That's why the WTBTS exists. -

No one else fulfills the preaching of Matt 24:14
by passwordprotected inas explained to me recently, only jehovah's witnesses are actively fulfilling matt 24:14, thus showing them alone to be the true religion.
sidestepping the glaring issue of jesus stating that love would mark the identity of true christians, let's examine that notion.. .
i have personally rebutted that opinion by stating, with accuracy, that many christians have a gospel ministry and manage to reach hundreds of millions of people across the planet with their message.. .

Pentecostalism has grown by 488% globally between 2000 - 2005.
They must be doing something right.
Or by JW rules, they must be doing something wrong. -

As explained to me recently, only Jehovah's Witnesses are actively fulfilling Matt 24:14, thus showing them alone to be the true religion. Sidestepping the glaring issue of Jesus stating that love would mark the identity of true Christians, let's examine that notion.
I have personally rebutted that opinion by stating, with accuracy, that many Christians have a gospel ministry and manage to reach hundreds of millions of people across the planet with their message.
The typical JW rebuttal takes the following shape;
- but they've never called on my door
- but they don't preach the truth, they preach things like the trinity
I feel it's worth examining those statements. Firstly, just because these Christians haven't knocked on your door does not mean they are not fulfilling Matt 24:14. Jesus, in those verses, and in every other verse relating to the Christian ministry, omitted to detail the methodology that would be used to preach the good news. It just so happened in the days before, oh, such things as newspapers, television, radio and this new fangled contraption called the InterWeb of World Wide Nets, the best way to reach listening ears was in places like synagogues, town squares and markets. However, because in the 21st C we have a little invention called technology, choosing to go from door-to-door between 9.30am and 11.30am weekdays is pretty much going to guarantee you find zero listening ears.
Quite how JWs defend the insistence on using such an outdated way of reaching people is puzzling. Oh, wait. They say it was the apostolic method, so they need to follow the 1st C example. But wasn't the apostolic method of meeting together in fulfillment of Heb 10:24,25 to meet in private homes? And as we know, the Governing Body say JWs aren't allowed to do that anymore. Quite why they cling to door-to-door while dropping meeting in private homes should be puzzling to all JWs
So while other Christian ministries use television, radio and the internet to preach the good news, JWs dismiss their efforts because they don't teach truth.
The JW version of truth is that the good news of the kingdom contains the following elements;
- God is going to destroy all non-JWs (this includes every man, woman and child in India, China and Pakistan, countries where there are, like, 4 JWs total)
- God is going to leave the cleaning up of all of mankind's detritus to the surviving 'great crowd of other sheep'
- this period of hard work is called the 1000 year reign of Christ
- it will not be like the cover of the Paradise Earth tract, it will be 1000 years of hard work
- the JW version of the good news contains little or no information of the new covenant, being a son of God, having Christ as your leader and teacher and other elements uniquely found in the teachings of evil Christendom (but surprisingly also part of all of Paul's letters and pretty much every utterance of the Lord himself)
What jumps out at me from this typical JW summation of why only JWs are preaching the good news (and qualify to be classed as true Christians) is thus;
Why don't they, if they have this true message of the good news (often called a 'warning message' - search the gospels for that little nugget. Yes, Jesus came to warn people about the kindliness of his yoke), drop the door-to-door ministry and get the TV transmitters wired up, get the YouTube account created, get the radio stations back up and running?
Or could there be another reason as to why they insist on the apostolic method of fulfilling Matt 24:14? Is there something they don't want people to know? -

As heard at the district convention. 9 part symposium on how to display the fruitages of the spirit.
Goodness
16 year old sister is interviewed on how she has displayed the fruitage of Goodness.
The speaker preludes her comments with the statement that she'd been put 'under enormous pressure' by a situation at school. My, my, what could this terrible situation have been that put this poor young sister under so much pressure not to show goodness.
She explains thus;
A dear friend of hers at school was diagnosed with cancer. Sadly the cancer spread rapidly and aggressively through her body. She was given just a few short months to live. She was only 15 years old at the time. The girls parents planned a big celebration to take place on her 16th birthday. The girls would wear ball gowns, the boys would wear suits.
The poor young sister was put under pressure by the dying girl and her family to attend this celebration. This was difficult, as the young sister desired to do good, to demonstrate the spirit of goodness. She had to explain that she could not attend the celebration.
The dying friend was hurt, as were her parents.
The girl died 4 months later.
The second way this young sister does good is learning how to sign the meetings to deaf people. Her entire Saturday is taken up with this pursuit. Unfortunately this means she gets to spend little time her non-believing father. However, this is good because she has the fine privilege of siging the meetings and conventions to deaf people, thus displaying goodness.
Needless to say listening to this experience ruined my lunch. -

A question for converts
by Mickey mouse inas i was born in i have no experience of this...
when you were studying do you remember coming up against things you questioned?
did you ask your study conductor and what responses did you get?

As a fellow born-in I can't answer from personal experience. However, I have asked what it was that attracted converts to 'the truth'. JWs usually find a listening ear from people who have emotional issues, personal fears, or serious questions about their church's teachings.
JWs receive, as you know, extensive training in how to target their very unique brand of the 'good news' to such ones. From what I've been told, finding answers to their questions in the Bible was a comfort. And when it came to issues like the 1914 doctrine, for example, they simply accepted such a teaching because the JW had already revealed established truths from the Bible. Why doubt all the other stuff? -

Both books are hugely important, if for no other reason they show you can have serious issues with WTS teachings and still be a God-fearing Christian.
The fact that his issues with WTS teachings and doctrines came from deep Bible study and research say all you need to know. The fact that his (and Dunlap's) research was rejected by the Governing Body tell you all need to know.
Both books stand up on their own right, for very different reasons. CoC is what is needed when you wake up to the truth about the WTS. It helps you realise you are not alone.
ISoCF is needed for when you realise you need direction. It's a fantastic work, IMO. -

How would the Society give up 1914?
by donny induring the 1930's when the society was quietly moving jesus' presence from 1874 to 1914, it only seemed to ruffle a few feathers and most accepted this "brighter light.
" how could the society abandon 1914 and still keep most of its followers?
