Is Faith Dangerous? A Question for Believers...

i hope this will be as respectful a debate as possible.

here is the premise: many of us (most) seem to be ex jw's on this board.

that means, whatever your motivation, for a time you bought into the theology of jw to one degree or another.

I don't really understand the self-perpetuating cycle of pulling out quotes from this sceptic or that believer to vilifiy or justify faith.

It shoud always be down to an individual's personal experience. I am a person of faith, but I didn't reach that place due to reading what so-called experts have to say on the matter. But then, maybe that requires faith in the first place...

I was talking to a physicist on Friday evening about the idea of faith. He said that, as a scientist, faith is essential to him; his work in the lab is more often than not faith-based. Think it through.

The question in the OP is "Is Faith Dangerous?" The answer, IMO, is "of course not". If it is, then it should be applied across the board which means that scientists around the world better get the hell out of the lab.

Faith within scientists has led to them changing the world.

Faith within Christians has led to them changing the world.

Our Bible Study with the Jehovahs Witnesses (Part 2)

well, my wife and i returned to the jw elders house for another bible study continuing the series in marriage.

that study went pretty well, poking fun at each other concerning our marital issues and all.

nothing in that particular study would seem to be bad or anything for after all, one cannot argue against the virtues of being faithful to your spouse and the marriage arrangement (at least for christians that is).

I personally take great comfort in the account of "doubting Thomas" in John. Jesus understood that Thomas needed to see before he believed. If he is god, he knows I need to see before I believe. If he comes back as advertised, that will be excellent evidence, but until then, I have no reason to worship him

Our "Bible Study" with the Jehovah's Witnesses

my wife and i had a "bible study" with an elder and his wife yesterday (9-11-09) and the topic was marraige.

the book we covered was "keeping yourself in god's love.

" this particular "bible study" was based primarily on the topic we covered in the book and, of course, there was a lot of "hop scotching" of the bible.

Belief in God, the Easter Bunny, Santa Clause, and Fairy God Mothers

when we were a young child full of wonder at the world, so new, so innocent, we believed what ever mommy and daddy told us, if they said there was a tooth fairy why we believed it until we got older(hopefully) especially when we get our permanent teeth.. santa was probably discarded around the same time as the tooth fairy give or take a few years depending on gullibility or lack of it.. well lets face it we probably figured out the easter bunny first for the simple reason you only got some eggs,, which you can have any day of the week and you get to eat a lot of chocolate bunnies ears off not very pious mind you, nor do you fear the bunny might seek revenge for the impious act in some way like god might do remembering: the ark and ussa or wassa or something.

that definately should be considered as a contributing factor as to why and what order they get debuncked tooth fairy danta the benifit factor need to be brought in.. god too has to go in time, eventually, just like not all at once and for everybody.

No, the same as a great intellect saying he/she didn't believe in God somehow making that belief plausible.
