Had Enough,
It must be the JW thing about 'keeping there eyes on the prize'
regardless of what is going on around them. If only I could believe in fairy tales.

Does the Watchtower break up famelies?
by OlderTom inmy word it does.. when i started studying with the witlesses all of my family and inlaws deserted me for following a stupit cult.
my wife divorced me and my children won't talk to me.. that's ok because according to jdubs that proves it's the truth.. as i progressed in "the truth(tm)" all my friends started to abandon me because i was always going to those booring meetings.. when i found someone i liked in "the truth" and started associating with her, some of my witness friends tried to break up the friendship.. ie break up another family before it even starts.. after i married her without getting the elder permission, some of my jdub friends tried to df me, to show how much they loved me.. when they failed to df me some of my witless friends decided to shun me anyway even though the elders pronounced us no guilty.. i should have sued the bastards for slander.
today i'd just give him (the instigator) a good hiding.

Claudia,
The lose of a child is the most terrible thing a parent can ever experience. It took me quite awhile to come to grips with it.
I am a single parent and come from a small family. The only person I have had in times of stress has been my mom.
JW's aren't much comfort to people who are grieving the death of a loved one.
I got so tired of hearing that we would see my daughter in the New World. My Dad even yelled at me for crying after my daughters funeral because.."I knew better". Stephanie was 23 years old when she was killed in a terrible car crash. She left behind a husband and 2 children. We buried her on her 3rd anniversary. Her baby daughter was 9 months old. There were so many things to cry about and all I got from my parents was JW bullshit. Its like they shut themselves off to the whole picture. They were so cold. -

To all,
I've always thought I had left the borg behind when I stopped attending at the ripe old age of 14. Little did I realize that Jehovah's Witnesses would haunt me forever. Since my parents are still in , issues come up frequently.
Currently my daughters are thinking about their weddings. If they are in a church their grandparents can't attend. It's too bad that a couple has to think about adjusting their wedding plans to accomodate JW's. Recently my niece had her baby shower. It was decided that it was best to exclude me because of my being da'd. My neices mother (also JW) and my mother we going to be there. My neice was really upset over it but she had no say as her mother was hostessing the party.
A lot of unnecessary burden is put on people by JW's. It seems they manage to taint every family situation. At funerals it has always been left to my brothers and I to explain to people why my parents sit in the hallway....even at my grandpa (mom's dad) and my daughters funerals. Personally I didn't feel much like explaining about my parents beliefs at either of those times. Wopuld it be awful at times like that to lead the inquiring person to my parents and let my parents explain. Since I am shunned there will be a new set of questions coming my way at the next family function. -

Larc,
I should identify myself to you. I use to be the proud ower of a webtv news group.Remmber? I found this place courtesy of you...thank you very much. It truly is a good place for healing.
I think what caused me the most distress was the fact that I had been out for so long and when the shunning began it hit me like a bolt of lightening....no forwarning that I was about to loose my parents. JW were under the assumption that since I had disassociated myself that I wasn't to be shunned like a df'd person. Since 1981 JW's had continued to talk to me when I would see them. Not now..
I hope you and your wife are sucessful in avoiding the 2 men with briefcases. Eventually they will da you and make the announcment to the congregation. It will probably be left to one of your family members to make you aware of your NEW status.
TMS,
I would like to see the article 'Caring for Aged Ones'.(maybe I should subscribe to the Watchtower and Awake.) That is a particular concern of mine. Who cares for my aged parents? They still get around , but they are ages 67 and 77. Its getting hard for them to take care of their lawn, shovel snow etc.
Your story is what my parents fear. They have been faithful JW's since 1956. It is there life. It is where all of there energies have been spent. It would crush them to loose their beloved Society.....better to sacrifice 3 children. I'm glad you chose your son. -

Things to do when they come knocking
by Skimmer ini encourage people not to either verbally or physically harass jws when they come knocking on the door.. saying this, i recognize that it is ever so tempting to try the following:.
1) answering the door wearing a t-shirt with a logo such as "satan rules", "member of the evil slave class", and "1914, 1918, 1925, 1975, what's next?".
2) answering the door wearing only underwear (or less).. 3) dropping a name of some governing body member and suggesting that you got to know him when he and you were in jail together, and then ask if they know if he's stopped some particular filthy habit.. 4) answering the door while brandishing a pitchfork.. 5) say that you're so glad they came and that it's good for people to have an open mind about their religion and to be willing to change; once you get them excited with this, show them a copy of the wtbts failed prophecy list (backed by quotes from their own literature) and ask if they are open minded as well.. 6) as most jws have never looked at a copy of _studies in the scriptures_, tell them that you've gotten many of your religious beliefs by pyramidology; then show them a copy of _sits_ and point to the wtbts copyright notice.. i have #5 and #6 ready for the next visit.

I have been away from the trooth for 34 years. I quit attending when I was 14. They came to my door in the late 70's. I didn't answer the door. My next call was from the elders telling me I had to come back, have a study ...or be df'd.(1981) It was a real emotional visit. One elder cried when I told them I wasn't interested. My family became JW when I was 3, so this man knew me real well and really put a heavy guilt trip on me...or tried to.
I've been glad not to see them at my door. I live in a very small town and know them all....even there cars. I know when they are working my territory....but they don't visit me...sob...sob
Do JW's have a rule that prohibits them from calling on da'd and df'd people?
Even though I have had to deal with JW issues for all of my life I don't really know much about them . I quit paying attention at meetings when I was about 10...it has been a subject my parents and I pretty much avoided after I left home. -

Patio,
That sounds like a logical explanation for the lack of windows in the KH. Several people have ask me why they don't have windows....I think people believe JW's are doing something weird that they are afraid outsiders will see.
Yes...Scarlet Letter...currently I am looking for unique A's to embroider....lol

Hello everyone
It is against my nature to be unkind to anyone.I'm sure most of us have thought about what we will do if they come calling. Maybe we would never really do anything but it can be humorous thinking of different scenarios.
If JW's came to my door I would like to have a heart to heart talk with them about the emotional side of being JW,and about family matters.I would really like to have some youthful publishers come to my door....lol...that will never happen. I'm sure I am on the DO NOT CALL list or the SEND ELDER ONLY list.
What I would like to do is print off some of the info I've found on the web and put flyers on all the cars in the KH parking lot..I've actually considered doing this. I doubt anyone would see me....there are no windows in the new KH.By the way, does anyone know why they don't have windows?
An ex I met on the internet told me he has a old work glove that he stuffed, sewed all the fingers down except the middle one, put a circle and slash (like the no smoking sign) with NO JW's written inside it. He mounted it on a stick and he keeps it by the door for when they come calling. I don't think he's used it yet.

Old Tom,
A bit about my family situation.....
I was baptized, age 9. Sent to a Lutheran Children's home at age 14. Parents couldn't tolerate a rebellious teen in their home. Father was an elder, thus he had to have his 'household' in order. I didn't attend any meetings from age 14 on and in all of my adult years (30 of 'em) JW's only came to my home once in field service and when the elders came to talk to me about coming back or being df'd(1981). I told them I wasn't interested. I wrote a letter of disasociation in 1981.Everything in my family relationships remained the same until June 2000. Then I was offically shunned by my parents. Besides the grief this has caused me. It has also affected my children and my grandchildren. Not to mention aunts. uncles. grandparents... Curently the situation is that my granmother is extremely ill and there is no communication from my mother to me or my siblings. (one is df'd other is so p.o.ed at my mother and father that he won't associate with them) I know that in the case of family emergencies JW's can talk to shunned ones....that is if we shunned ones allow JW's to make the rules....for me....if I am DEAD....I am DEAD....all the time. My brother feels the same as I....I love my parents and I miss them. But I have MISSED them all my life. They never had time for their kids....too much JW stuff to do. To this day my parents don't KNOW any of us.We are all in our 40's.
I could go on and on....but since I am a newbie (1st post) I'll try and spare you my whinning....save it for the depression forum ...
