  One American on International Politics

  it seems the entire world feels that americans are not only ignorant of international events but also void of any sense regarding their own politics.

  after reading one spicey thread on the topic of our apparent unwitting density i had a couple things to say.

  I know the Iraq war is a sore point to the international community and no one likes Bush-guess what? 84% (in the last poll I saw) of Americans feel the same. Our political system of voting does not leave the Presidency merely to the popular vote of the citizens, as with the case of Bush, politicians weighed in more heavily than the citizens did. It was our politicians who put him into office. So what would you have the American public do?

  Well, a start would be to recognize that a country that feels that somehow it has a monopoly on the concept of 'democracy by seeing fit to export it by foul means or fair, has deep political failings and should concentrate on putting its own house in order.

  Perhaps a start would be to commit to a true democratic process so that they are then better able to serve as an example of such to other nations who are are obviously panting to become Americans.

  Criticize the government of the average European and they will agree with the criticisms and actually add to it. Patriots are ponces.

  As an outsider, criticize the government of the US, Democrat or Republican, and the average American will view it as an affront to their personal dignity and an assault on modern civilization and liberty.

  This generalization sounds like an outrage but its reality is lived out on this Board on a regular basis. The kind of America who is respected is one such as Six who not only KNOWS his country and its failings, but tries in his own small way to FIX his country.

  Criticism of the nation you happen to have genes in is not a sin, as a matter of fact it is much more positive in an educational way than blind patriotism.

  Do black Americans claim Obama as one of their own?

  i was watching an interview with a black american recently about barrack obama.

  interestlingly he said that black americans find it hard to claim him as one of their own.

  he said that black people would much prefer to have someone who is from the stereotypical upbringing of a black american to be the presidential candidate.

  OMG! Is he white? Or is he black? How will America ever survive if we cannot stick a label on everything and stuff it into a neat little pigeon hole? How will the burning issues ever get solved if we cannot even solve the "problem" of what color Obama is?

  That is the point.

  A nation which claims to be the pinion of 'democracy in the world, so much so that it tries to export this democracy to other lands, (normally using aggressive tactics) gets into a frenzy at the thought that a black man, or heaven forbid a woman, might be a future president. A black female President would no doubt break the machine.

  It may have slipped their notice that many Muslim lands have, and have had had female leaders and high officials for hundreds of years.

  in attending the apostafest this weekend in south lake tahoe it became apparent to me that we all held a common bond in getting out of the jehovah's witnesses cult ; and yet many of us made our escape to freedom in different ways !

  some people stopped going to meetings cold turkey, like myself, something just clicks in you after the buildup over years of tension and abuse of justice - just couldn't take it anymore !

  other people do a slow gradual fade , some get dfed, or dissassociate, some even get their families out with them, some are the only members of their family who have exited the cult.

  Mayfield did a live recording of this song, which was stunning, in '70 in New York and is featured on his 'Curtis Live' album. I was just a kid (17) and on my second visit to NY and was there in a club during the race riots, one of about five white faces. It was a magical evening. This album is one of the best live albums that I have ever heard.
