I agree with Newborn. I had to find it out on my own, despite all of the practical info my husband would mention to me. Sometimes, you can mention something like the UN/NGO issue and hope that a seed can get planted.

How can you help...
by IronHill insomeone who still feels guilty about leaving the witnesses?
i understand the guilt is something that is built in, inculcated so that no one even considers offending "god".
but how can you break someone free from that hold?

Some of the things they say...
by AwSnap ini spoke with a jw recently...we were shooting the breeze and i joked what a rebel i am & he said "we recently had a great watchtower on that very topic, how so many people in the world are rebellious these days and how jehovah looks at that.

Somehow, no matter WHAT the conversation or topic is, they will be able to direct it to something one of the publications say, or some brother's talk. My mom is that way, it drives me crazy.

Deep thoughts: conditional love
by greenie inso, i know people talk a lot on here about how love is conditional for jws (ex.
as soon as you're not one, you've often lost jw family and friends).
in my own situation, many of you have counseled me to get out of my relationship (for those that don't know, i'm not a jw, my partner is).

Russian JWs in Serious Trouble - about to be banned
by Dogpatch inalthough it has been leading up to this for a long time, it appears russia has made up their mind to get rid of "extremist" groups by banning them, and jws are pretty much at the top of the list.
the last few years under putin they have been giving them heaps of trouble.. .
i am not for bans as it usually backfires, but under the "new" admnistration it looks like hard-core responses are in order.

I feel bad for the members who live in Russia who will be loyal and suffer for a cause that is based on a lie. Especially the kids.

i can remember the day i first posted on this site... i was at the cusp of a thoroughly shattered faith, and i was in complete despair.

Good for you!! You are a terrific example that life after the JW's can be productive and positive.

Anyone here have Bi-Polar II?
by daniel-p ini wanted to see if there were some people on here with this disorder, and what kind of symptoms you have/had, so any input is welcome.. i have some symptoms that, from what i have read, sound very similar, but i have never been one to go seeking out diagnoses for myself and am very wary of the pitfalls associated with that.. in any case, i'd be interested to hear from others about this.....

You should check out the website called NAMI-National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. They are the best resource for that information.

Blondie- I am keeping my guest list as it is now. All of the "offenders' are welcome in my home!! If my mom chooses to not come or participate, that is her choice.
On a side note, the shower is going to be really nice. I'm excited. My niece is beautiful and I'm having a wonderful time spoiling her!!!

Thank you everyone for your responses and input. It's a frustrating situation. Most of you said the same thing my husband said-you are grown, have who you want at our house.
Blondie-I hate to have to play the JW game but at this point, can't get out of it. It has to be done in my own time and believe me, that time is fast approaching-not in the world is ending any second now time frame but close.
I like OTWO suggestions of telling my mom I don't plan on going back. That might be a step in the right direction to a peaceable(sp) solution. I know if I tell her that, she will think it is because of my Apostate Aunt and that is so not the case.
Thanks again. I'll let you know how it goes.

Blondie-Mom doesn't know that I am "apostate". I havent' told her and everyday it's a battle to keep my true feelings in. My sister has never been baptised. My sister wants all of the family there. It was the intention to have two showers initially. I was going to have one at my house and my mom would have one at hers. Mom changed her mind and decided she didn't want to have it at her house - she lives in another city about 1 hour from me.

I am having a baby shower for my sister this Saturday. I have invited ALL of the family. Some are 'apostates'(myself included). My mom-the die hard JW is refusing to come. She is very hurt that I have chosen to have these people at the shower. I feel fine with my decision but feel terrible that I have hurt my mom's feelings.
If it wasn't for my mom, whom I love dearly, I would give a big F-U to the WTBS. I try to keep the religious conversations with her to a bare minimum. This baby shower has opened a door that I am not sure that I want to close all of the way. I really want to just tell her that I am done with the whole JW thing. But at the same time, don't want to alienate her. It sucks that I am having to make such a choice. Guess I just wanted to vent my frustrations at the situation but feel free to give me your thoughts.
