Some thoughts on the new midweek meeting

the new midweek meeting has been running for a month now.

here are my thoughts on how it is going so far:.

1) elders are looking frazzled from being on virtually every meeting and having to prepare unfamiliar formats for items.

I really find it easy -- I download the workbooks from the site, read with the reader -- click on scriptures that appear so quickly on the tablet, sing a song, watch the presentations - although live ones are doing the presenting( some times) .. and I don't have to do a thing....

Why did the org think this was a good idea? Daydreaming during the meeting works for me.... I pre plan my next day and things I have to do since I don't have to think about deep subjects anymore...

This is all sarcastic of course!

and those black out presentations -- how does the sister grab the magazine or book out of the side pocket of her briefcase without looking... amazes me every time.. like pulling a gun out of a holster... just insane- its a miracle

Money to Org

i know this has been talked about to death but this week our loving faithful and discreet slave wrote a letter to all congregations in canada - keep 1500.00 a month in congregation expense account each month for the next three months coverage,(4500.00 in all) 5000.00 for any problems that may arise but send rest into them.

so aren't we lucky to have 9500.00 still left in the account!

the elder reading the letter indicated it was for the kingdom hall building work!!!.

Dark Knight - I agree - any xtra monies should be dolled out to those less fortunate -- charity begins at home - why knock on doors to bring people in when those already in are suffering. People need oil in their furnaces, food in their bellies, drives to medical help when no family car is available....maybe even buy them a winter beater with min insce coverage..........Does not make sense to me.... just give, give give to an org that is mis handling funds. Where is the good in all these buildings?? Do they really think brick and mortar will withstand the "day of Jehovah"? I don't think so..... all the most valuable things in those buildings will be destroyed... yet they keep on building and amassing real estate...... sickening

Shirley - re NYT --I read it, and I let it be known when the subject is brought up - do I get surprised looks!!

Then I add, so what is the money being used for?? Leave them guessing..... had a really good talk to an x elder last week and he opened up with a lot of hidden elders meeting information from years ago that is still bothering him....

He is still in along with wife but is livid that things are going on that 99.9 percent are not aware of ... I do get concerned when he goes off as he does have health issues now, some related to past experiences so once the outbursts have occurred, the issues are dropped for another time...

That is not too unusual, my mother and aunt would do the same, I would get every name of their sisters until they hit on mine -- comes from too many in the family usually

So with 8 kids running around I would say your about normal

Christianity and the Dead Sea Scrolls-Do the Scrolls Help us Understand Early Christianity?

i think most scholarship would agree with a positive answer to that question.

but let's take a look for oursselves.

Will we e ver know what was truly written down for " our instruction?"

If you look at copyright laws and all the bible translations - a new bible has to be "significantly different from the orginal" to be copyrighted... so where does that leave us as to all the bibles floating around today?

Do we really know what the ....... we are talking about, arguing about, worrying about? You could not copyright the scrolls, yet the many religions who claim to be Christian have their own bibles supposedly copied from the scrolls( or Catholic translations since they did obtain many of the scrolls)-- and over the centuries many translations have used the right to copyright their own bibles to support their own beliefs.

Lordy, lordy!!

Do Jehovah's Witnesses dedicate themselves to an organization or not? Which one is it?

anyone that is/was a dedicated jehovah's witness knows that the worship of the ''faithful and discreet slave'' is the only relationship we know.i don't remember having a personal relationship with jehovah without the governing body being in the way.they make all the rules on every matter.anyone who thinks that jehovah has any control on your daily matters is a fool.jehovah's witnesses only answer to an organization!.

"we do not dedicate ourselves to a religion, nor to a man, nor to an organization.

no, we dedicate ourselves to the supreme sovereign of the universe, our creator, jehovah god himself.

Back in the day - 70's - when we were asked the questions -- there was no leaving out of the holy spirit as Matthew wants-- baptize in the name of the father, son and holy spirit. - Today that is out and the org is in, your life is dedicated to the GB and the org-- Jesus is placed in the third position after the GB and that is so wrong.... so I ask myself often, what did I do? When I "joined" the truth was different, it has substantially morphed into something grotesque........

What I knew then is not what I See and hear now and it deeply disturbs me .......
