When I read the BITE model, I had the impression that it was written to describe only the JW's. I misunderstood where it came from. My mistake.

As far as your quote from Snoop Dogg, surely you don't believe that African-Americans are the only ones who aspire to be criminals in this country. There have been studies done to investigate why blacks are disproportionately arrested and jailed. A major factor has been the ill-conceived "war on drugs". One study in Delaware found this:
Thanks for the information. As you said, there are other factors.

If the Guy didn't represent the beliefs of the majority in his state, he wouldn't have been a senator for NC. Never underestimate the racism and anti-homosexual beliefs of the South.
I actually agree with some of the things you quoted him as saying. Statistitics prove that more crimes are commited by African Americans than any other race in the U.S. It's the culture they created for themselves, and Snoop Dog said it best in one of his songs:"When I grow up, I wanna be a motherfuckin Gangsta."
It is also a fact that AIDS was most common among Homosexuals and Intravenous Drug Users. We don't hear about it in the States so much anymore. Africa seems to be the only place that has AIDS if you watch the news. Homosexuals were the face of the AIDS epidemic back in the 80's.
I never heard of Jesse Helms, but he seems oppinionated. I don't agree with racism or homophobia, but you can't deny the facts.

P.S. Many of the things listed describing a cult do apply.

I was going to disagree with some of your points made, but after thinking about it, I realized you are pretty much right. These ones are exaggerated though.
f. Little or no time spent on leisure, entertainment, vacations
I can remember family vacations to places like Disney World Florida, Cedar Point Ohio, etc. My Aunt and Uncle have visited places all over the World. I have been to Canada many times with my Mom and Dad. My Dad and Uncle are Elders, and our family wasn't any different than many others.
e. Financial dependence
Except for Overseers and the like, no one is dependent on the Organization financially. It saps their time and money, but they don't receive any financial support. No financial dependence there.
c. What food the person eats, drinks, adopts, and rejects
d. How much sleep the person is able to haveI never saw any rules regarding those things. This doesn't apply to JW's. Maybe bethelites, but I doubt sleep and food are that strictly regulated. I doubt it compares to the U.S. Military. Is that a cult too?
a. Books, articles, newspapers, magazines, TV, radio
b. Critical informationCertain subject matter is definately discouraged. But Newspapers? Come on man. Thats ridiculous. So is everything else you listed there. No one is required to stop watching TV or reading or listening to the radio.
According to the Criteria you listed describing a cult, I would say all Religions meet some, and most Goverment organizations like the Military do too.

Worship of the Faithful and Discrete Slave?
by Lady Zombie init sure does seem like the wtbts is subtly edging jws towards actually worshipping the fds.
they're constantly reminding jws that all spiritual food is provided via the fds and how the wtbts are jehovah's chosen representatives.. and the nebulous hypothetical question that the wtbts has been asking of late of (paraphrased) 'will you accept and obey direction from the fds, no matter how strange it may appear?
' they insinuate that "in the last days," jws may be issued instructions that may, at first, appear to be outlandish, but that their very survival depends on it.. it was ominously mentioned at the last dc and was mentioned again several times in congregational meetings, especially during the book study which not surprisingly is the revelation book.. the first problem here is, the current gb, the very ones responsible for "providing food at the proper time" are not among the annoited.

I thought it was a requirement to be anointed to be GB. If that is not the case, something seriously changed in the last 10 years and I missed it.

My Aunt was "chosen" as one of the anointed over 25 years ago. She partakes of the wine and bread at every memorial and her husband of 30 some years is an Elder.
Except for my Dad, I have never heard anyone question it.
The thing is, she was Epileptic for many years and had seizures. There is even an Awake article about her epilepsy from back in the 70's or 80's (It's been awhile). It seems pretty obvious to me that whatever vision she had was caused by her epilepsy.

Excommunication/Disfellowshipping is pagan practice--by request!
by Atlantis inexcommunication/disfellowshipping is pagan practice!--by request!
request from researcher: hi atlantis or n. or whoever!
one of my friends on the board said that she downloaded the 1947 awake pdf that "bereanbiblestudent and invetigator 74" posted, and in the first issue on page 26, it said that excommunication or disfellowshipping was a pagan practice.

The Elders have to make an example of people in their congregation, right? That is the only way to keep order in Jehovah's Organization.
Fuck them. My Sister was disfellowshipped for smoking a cigarette at age 16. She was baptized at 11. I personally know that her cigarette smoking lasted for only a few months. She went on to get a college degree, and is currently working on her Masters degree in Nursing. She obviously quite smoking.
The fact that my little sister was disfellowshipped for giving in to peer pressure and smoking a cigarette is only a small brick in the wall.
Just another brick in the wall. (Pink Floyd)
Fuck them for what they did to my family! Argggggghh!

P.S.
My Aunt is one of the anointed in the Athens North Congregation in Ohio. She is in her late 50's and suffered from epilepsy 20 years ago. There is an article in the Awake! magazine many years ago about her.

How hypocritical of JW's to hate the Catholic Church for its evils, and allow Illogical doctine to take lives. I remember my Aunt talking about a Brother who was faithfull all of his life untill his moment in the hospital.
He accepted a blood transfussion while on deaths door. He was in his 70's, and Aunt Sandra said that it was a shame that he now had no hope of a reserection.
So evil the life of man.
