JWs and the Mentally Challenged
by almostbitten ini know three women from the local kh (one is a distant relative of mine) who call on my uncle for bible study.
problem is, he has alzheimer's disease--and they were told about this!!!
still, they've been doing studies with him until my aunt (his wife) told them to stop coming by.

When you left? Did you think that you were gonna get struck by lightening?
by MsMcDucket init shows how deeply this stuff is drilled into our heads!.

I was just studying with them, but when I started realizing something wasn't right with them, I began to feel sick and confused. I was like, "Just what if there's a small chance they are right?" I don't know about lightening, but I felt really out of sorts when I stopped studying at first. But, I'm over it now.

Another situation deals with a friend of mine who was also receiving a study from JWs from a congregation in the next town over from mine. He has a 12 y/o son with autism and has limited speech, a short attention span and he's often hyper. My friend was cool with them coming by until they started inquiring about having his son join them in the study. He tried to explain his son's limitations in communication and apprehension, but did that phase them? Nope!! Soon, they were bombarding the man with children's books and pressing him to bring the child to the KH. My friend and his son have been to my home church in the past, but would leave in the middle of service because his son would become restless and made loud noises (he couldn't help it). Fed up, my friend asked them politely not to come back.
I guess my question is: is this normal protocal for JWs to try to convert mentally challenged people? I mean, that makes no sense to me and makes the Org look desperate for members--even ones who truly have no idea what's being told/taught to them. I personally find it distasteful. Comments? -

Questions Asked of Candidates for JW Baptism....
by almostbitten inas a non-witness, i've heard that potential candidates for baptism have to answer a series of questions.
1. what are some of these questions?
2. is this an actual form or are these questions oral (be nice!)?

As a non-Witness, I've heard that potential candidates for baptism have to answer a series of questions.
1. What are some of these questions? 2. Is this an actual form or are these questions oral (be nice!)? 3. What happens if you don't answer them all correctly/to the WTS's liking? 4. Exactly what is the point of doing this? 5. Where exactly in the Bible does it say that John the Baptist gave Jesus a test of any kind? Ditto for the apostles who baptized. Just wondering. Thanks! -

by donny inbesides the folks walking with signs at each convention, what was your first taste of "apostasy"?
my first interesting experience happened within the kingdom hall.
my congregation in dallas (farmers branch) was in the same district as the bonham congregation which was about 70 miles northeast of dallas.. http://governingbodyletters.blogspot.com/2008/04/who-owns-kingdom-halls.html.

Maybe it was a "shepherding call." Isn't that what they call it when they visit those who are still witnesses, but not as active? Help me out here?

Do We Live In A Spiritual Desert?
by hamilcarr inaccording to the pope we do.. what do you think?.

Let me share with you something that a practicing Buddhist wrote:
"Contrary to popular belief, the prevailing religion of America isn't Christianity, it's Individual Materialism. It's a system that endorses blind self-interest and urges us to look away from the suffering of everyone around us in favor of our own financial and material gain."
Angel Kyodo Williams, "Being Black: Zen and the Art of Living With Fearlessness and Grace." p.177
I am a non-affiliated Christian who likes to observe the world around me. I'm afraid this lady and the pope are on to something that didn't just happen overnight. If it makes you feel better, you can blame brother John Calvin for all of this. -

Many so-called historians discredit 1914 as a pivotal date because they give a different date for the fall of Jerusalem. Who are we going to believe? Those who constantly change opinions and ideas, or God’s organization, that has shown to be a pillar of the truth? The faithful and discreet does extensive research on every article, so we have good reason to trust them, just as Jesus trusts them. (Matt 24:45)
You've got to be kidding, right? That makes NO sense. The WTS are the ones who are constantly flip-flopping. Yes, scientists and researchers have changed their opinions, too, but at least they can admit it and not chalk it off as "Old light" aka "We don't know what the f**k we're talking about." And HOW does the FDS get THEIR research information? By counting on their fingers and toes, maybe a calculator? Since they are so anti-education, WHERE are they getting their information? Pulling it out of their a$$es? The WTS is constantly "quoting" material from outside sources to often undergird their positions/beliefs/doctrines, usually to the affirmative. These sources tend to be HISTORIANS and SCIENTISTS, so if these very same people supposedly can't be trusted, then what does that say about the FDS relying upon them?
Wake up, people. LIVE READY, and you wouldn't have to worry about dates. -

That's really odd that you mentioned this, because right now, I'm wondering why there are JWs actively and persistantly studying with my uncle who has Alzheimer's and they are aware of this because it's been told to them.
