The beauty in being mortal
by HiddenPimo ini am only speaking from my personal point of view and not to encroach on anyone else's belief system:.
one of the main points of attraction to the jw life was the 'panda paradise', once i woke up, i began to think about the future and it made me realize that jw's have little or no regard for life and the way they treat others even in those who are jw's.. e.g.
no blood, shunning, theocratic warfare, no real charity work for those in need, etc.... if we live forever on earth we would get bored, we would take relationships for granted and possible want to actually die.. what makes anything valuable is the not the beauty of it but the rarity of it or the limited amount of it.. time is not only limited but all of our hourglasses are opaque leaving the amount of sand remaining a guess at best, and this is what moves us to appreciate life and ever little thing it gives us.. there is a beautiful and poignant song by jason isbell 'if we were vampires' and it perfectly describes the beauty one can find in ones mortality and how it moves us to love & care deeper than if we were immortal.. the 2nd verse goes .

IDK, Smiddy. If they did, I missed it. But it sounds like something they would say.

Yesterday is history
Tomorrow is a mystery
Today is a gift. That's why they call it "the present."

New Zealand certainly didn't mess around in their response to a maniac with an assault weapon! Of course, it's a somewhat different culture and they don't have Donald Trump trying to get re-elected. They just did what had to be done.
I hope it works for them. This American culture is way too polarized. People can't even have civil discourse because nobody knows what's true anymore. People just believe what they want to believe.

A look at the sins of the Governing Body members of the Jehovah's Witnesses
by Finkelstein inthe leaders of the jws and the ibsa had their own unique inherent sins ingrained in their teachings and established doctrines.. c t russell taught and preached pyramidology to establish the date of jesus's return and subsequent armageddon.
this fixated date setting carried over even when he passed on and the following leaders of the wts propagated new dates such as 1925, 1975 etc.
it would appear the leaders of the wts created more relevance and importance toward themselves than even jesus and his spoken words of direction and how to be one his chosen select.. it would appear also that the leaders of the wts/jws were more involved in creating their own power and money through the organization that they created in their endeavor as proliferating literature charlatans.. the doctrinal mistakes that have come out of these men are many, from setting dates of christ's return, to mistakes on blood transfusions, memorial mistakes, encouraging and influencing children to get baptized, over use of disfellowshiping , sometimes done so to protect their wrongly devised doctrines.

Fink, there may have been some well-meaning leaders mixed in with JW leadership, but the whole set-up revolves around self-promotion, despite the party-line saying that appointments are made by Holy Spirit.

Introductions
by Lobsto inwell, i finally made an account.
i’ve been lurking on here for four or so years, enjoying the debates and experiences of all of you.
it really helped in that initial year after i woke up, when the frustration and betrayal felt strongest.

Wow, great story! Hey, I realize that it's a major adjustment for you to make your way out of the religion and you want to do that with a minimum of fallout. But if it were me, and I was your age and at your station in life, I would focus on my education and how I am going to succeed in life. Like, it's not so much what you DON'T do as what you actually DO.
Nuff said. Welcome to the forum! Lots of real thinkers here.
