Managed to get my hands on the letter - does anybody know when the say that EPO is now "completely free of human albumin," does that mean it has been replaced with a synthetic component or is taken from non-human blood?
I don't have a scanner so here it is...
*****************************************************
TO ALL CONGREGATIONS
Dear Brothers:
This letter is to acquaint you with a number of important matters related to our maintaining integrity in regard to Jehovah's law on blood, and in particular the need to 'abstain from blood' when seeking or receiving medical treatment.Erythropoietin:This is a pharmaceutical drug, often called EPO. It has been used to treat those who are anaemic or suffer heavy blood loss during surgery, it has the ability to prompt the bone marrow to produce more red blood cells and thus raise the haemoglobin level. Previously, the EPO available in Australia contained a blood fraction (albumin), making its acceptance a matter of Christian conscience. The manufacturer has advised us that their product (known as EPREX) is now completely free of human albumin. This means that your acceptance of this drug is no longer a matter of conscience. In the remote possibility that there is some of the older product still stored in hospital pharmacies, a simple check on the packaging label will show whether it contains human albumin or not. Please note that this may mean that you need to adjust the letter-size "Directive" form given to each dedicated publisher in the past whereby you could indicate your decisions on matters of conscience.Hospital Admittance Forms:These vary from hospital to hospital but due to the recent change in privacy laws, these forms no longer require you to state your religion. It is now optional. Therefore, we suggest that when completing such a form you make sure you state that you are one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Assuming you would like a visit from one of our Patient Visitation Elders, write that on there too. In this regard, you will need to write something like "I would like a visit from the Chaplain for Jehovah's Witnesses." If you fail to do this the hospital will not inform the Patient Visitation Elder of your being there and it is unlikely you will receive a visit. Although we do not normally use the term "Chaplain" in connection with our brothers, that is how the hospitals identify them.Refusal to Permit Blood Transfusion form:It is strongly recommended that prior to surgery you complete one of there forms and request that it be included with your medical records along with a copy of your Advance Medical Directive/Release card. It is also advisable to keep a copy of each of these documents for yourself. Congregation secretaries should already have spare copies of this Refusal to Permit Blood Transfusion form in their files, and if not they should request one from the Society and make the required number of photocopies.Alternative Medical Treatment:Brothers serving on Hospital Liaison Committees have noticed a trend developing among some doctors about which you should be aware. After a patient indicates he will not accept blood, some doctors have answered along the lines, "That's no problem. I can assure you I will not use blood in your case." That sounds fine. However, it might be the course of wisdom to express your appreciation for his assurance, and then, depending on the seriousness of the operation, ask him what he is planning to do to compensate for the fact that he will not be able to use blood? There are usually quite a number of steps a surgeon can take prior to, during, and after an operation to ensure you have the best possible outcome. When blood is, or is likely to become an issue, we want more than just a simple assurance that a doctor will not use it.Expressing Appreciation:Following the successful conclusion of surgery, particularly if it has bee of a serious nature, we suggest it would be appropriate to write the doctor a letter or card expressing your appreciation for his cooperation and help. This could reflect positively on his view of treating Jehovah's Witnesses in the future.
We would like to take this opportunity to commend all those brothers and sisters who have maintained their integrity on the blood transfusion issue, this reflecting their firm conviction to obey Jehovah's law and uphold his view of the sanctity of blood. In addition, we appreciate the excellent work accomplished by the one hundred brothers currently working on the fifteen Hospital Liaison Committees throughout Australia, along with the more than three hundred Patient Visitation Elders.
Please accept our warm Christian love and greetings.
Your brothers WBTS of Australia
PS to secretary: This letter should be retained in the "AUSTRALIA BRANCH" section of the congregation's permanent file of policy letters.

Here is the last quote I could find discussing whether a JW can accept EPO back in 1994
***w9410/1p.31Questions From Readers***Would it be proper to accept a vaccination or some other medical injection containing albumin derived from human blood?Frankly, each Christian must personally decide on this.
God's servants rightly want to obey the directive found at Acts 15:28, 29, to abstain from blood. Accordingly, Christians will not eat unbled meat or products such as blood sausage. But God's law also applies in the medical area. Jehovah's Witnesses carry a document stating that they refuse 'blood transfusions, whole blood, red cells, white cells, platelets, or blood plasma.' What, though, about serum injections containing a tiny amount of a blood protein?
Witnesses have long realized that this is a matter for private decision in accord with each one's Bible-trained conscience. This was pointed out in "Questions From Readers" of TheWatchtower of June 1, 1990, which discussed serum injections that a physician may recommend if one is exposed to certain diseases. The active components of such injections are not blood plasma per se but antibodies from the blood plasma of those who have developed resistance. Some Christians who feel that they can in good conscience accept such injections have noted that antibodies from the blood of a pregnant woman cross into the blood of the baby in her womb. "Questions From Readers" mentioned this, as well as the fact that some albumin passes from a pregnant woman to her baby.
Many find this noteworthy, since some vaccines that are not prepared from blood may contain a relatively small amount of plasma albumin that was used or added to stabilize the ingredients in the preparation. Currently a small amount of albumin is also used in injections of the synthetic hormone EPO (erythropoietin). Some Witnesses have accepted injections of EPO because it can hasten red blood cell production and so may relieve a physician of a feeling that a blood transfusion might be needed.Other medical preparations may come into use in the future that involve a comparatively small amount of albumin, since pharmaceutical companies develop new products or change the formulas of existing ones. Christians may thus want to consider whether albumin is part of a vaccination or other injection that a doctor recommends. If they have doubts or have reason to believe that albumin is a component, they can inquire of their physician.
As noted, many Witnesses have not objected to accepting an injection that contains a small quantity of albumin. Still, anyone wanting to study the matter more thoroughly before making a personal decision should review the information presented in "Questions From Readers" of TheWatchtower of June 1, 1990.

*** cf chap. 3 "I Am . . . Lowly in Heart" ***
Will You Follow the Pattern Jesus Set?
Q20. How can we know whether we are lowly in heart?20 Paul admonishes each of us: "Keep this mental attitude in you that was also in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 2:5) Like Jesus, we need to be lowly in heart. How can we know whether humility is in our heart? Well, Paul reminds us that we should be "doing nothing out of contentiousness or out of egotism, but with lowliness of mind considering that the others are superior to you." (Philippians 2:3) The key, then, lies in the way we view others in relation to ourselves. We need to see them as superior, as more important, than we are. Will you apply that counsel?
So the WTS demand for Godlike obedience is an example of "considering that others are superior to you?"
*** w57 6/15 p. 370 par. 7 Overseers of Jehovah's People ***
...respond to the directions of the "slave" as we would to the voice of God, because it is His provision.
Q21, 22. (a) Why do Christian overseers need to be humble? (b) How can we show that we are girded with humility?21 Many years after Jesus' death, the apostle Peter was still thinking about the importance of humility. Peter taught Christian overseers to carry out their duties humbly, never lording it over Jehovah's sheep. (1 Peter 5:2, 3) Responsibility is no license for pride. On the contrary, responsibility increases the need for genuine humility. (Luke 12:48) Of course, this quality is vital not only for overseers but for every Christian.
These hypocrites remind others of "never lording it over Jehovah's sheep" but have established a centralised, legalistic, authoritarian and pharisaic hierarchy which lords it over all!
22 Peter surely never forgot that night when Jesus had washed his feet-over Peter's own objections! (John 13:6-10) Peter wrote to Christians: "All of you gird yourselves with lowliness of mind toward one another." (1 Peter 5:5) The expression "gird yourselves" suggests the action of a servant who would gird himself with an apron to carry out menial work. The phrase might well remind us of the occasion when Jesus girded himself with a towel before kneeling to perform his task of washing feet. If we follow Jesus, what God-given assignment could we possibly consider beneath our dignity? The humility of our heart should be visible to all, as if we were girded with it.
Guess who the WTS holds up as an example of humility? Joseph Franklin Rutherford of all people!http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/5198/1/The-humble-man
Q23, 24. (a) Why should we resist any tendency toward haughtiness? (b) The following chapter will help to correct what false notion regarding humility?23 Haughtiness is like poison. The effects can be devastating. It is a quality that can render the most gifted human useless to God. Humility, on the other hand, can make even the least one very useful to Jehovah. If we cultivate this precious quality daily by endeavoring to walk humbly in the footsteps of Christ, the reward is wonderful to contemplate. Peter wrote: "Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time." (1 Peter 5:6) Jehovah certainly exalted Jesus for humbling himself so completely. Our God will likewise delight in rewarding you for your humility.
It's really sad the way these hypocrites don't think of themselves when they publish this stuff
Matthew 7:3-5
3 Why, then, do you look at the straw in your brother's eye, but do not consider the rafter in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, 'Allow me to extract the straw from your eye'; when, look! a rafter is in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First extract the rafter from your own eye, and then you will see clearly how to extract the straw from your brother's eye.
24 Sadly, some think that humility is a sign of weakness. Jesus' example helps us to see how false that notion is, for the humblest of men was also the most courageous. That will be the subject of the following chapter.

How Can You Follow Jesus?
? When you are tempted to boast about your accomplishments, how might Jesus' example guide you?-Matthew 12:15-19; Mark 7:35-37.
? How might you imitate Jesus' example in doing humble work in behalf of spiritual brothers and sisters?-John 21:1-13.
? How might you benefit from Jesus' example if you are tempted to seek prominence and success in this system of things?-John 6:14, 15.

A classic case of WT dishonesty.

Some devestating logic and great reasoning on this thread!
I like these quotes from Lisa:For a while there, they were confused and thought they had to "Vindicate" his name.
Now, of course, the God whose name they don't know has informed them it is not necessary for them to VINDICATE his name (he will do that himself, apparently)
All they need to do is SANCTIFY his name.
What was that name, again?and this:
Now what gets me about this, is the fact that the Governing Body, aka The Faithful and Discreet Slave, has based the lives of millions of people on the fact that they alone speak for Jehovah, and yet they don't even know his damned name!!!

CO talk with Elders & MSs - Keep up to date with org changes & speak POSITIVELY about them to others!
by LUKEWARM ini'm having a field day with these changes - telling others not to attach themselves too much to the latest generation change because its probably going to change again in the next 2 years, commenting on how terrible the new songs are etc etc.... .
anyway, thought it interesting that the gb is making sure the boys on the ground locally are supportive of the changes being made.
here are notes from the 3rd discussion point in the wts scripted outline the co's was using at this meeting.. .

Point 3: "Keeping pace with Jehovah's loving organization".
Pr 4:18 - As light gets brighter the org has made significant advancements
- New format of WT - Public/Study editions
- One Awake issue
- New cong meeting schedule
- Jw.org website downloading capability
- Songbook
Received clarification in recent times on:
- Mustard grain
- Leaven
- Dragnet
- Generation
2 Kings 10: 15, 16 - Learn of positive spirit we must have
Isa 60:17 - Jah himself is behind organizational changes NOT GOVERNING BODY
Essential to be conscientious of the changes and teach them to others!
How will you benefit by keeping up-to-date with the changes?
YOU WILL PROGRESS!
When new points come out BE INTERESTED in those things and SPEAK POSITIVELY about them to others.
Eg new songs - need to have a POSITIVE ATTITUDE as the songs were changed to correct theocratically incorrect words.
Eze 1:12 - Chariot pictured Jah's org. Wheels went forward in any direction not backward - Same with progressive org directed by Jah.
