i was just thinking it will be interesting to see how the wts emergency relief fund will operate in the philippines.
ok it worked well with the storm in florida, with cashing in on the insurance cheques.
sorry to generalize, but americans have the disposable income, and the insurance polices for things like this - a thing the wtbts finds very attractive.
If SFPW is Miz,he is certainly not being serious.

i have just talked with the wtbts service department at 718-560-5000.. you can contribute for hurricane katrina relief efforts through your local kingdom hall and put your donation in the contribution box marked for the world wide work.
you may also send donations directly to the branch office... to the brooklyn address.
donations should be marked for the world wide work and not specificically reserved for relief efforts.

According to some experts in "exit counseling" there are four components of mind control. Control of behavior, control of thoughts, control of emotions and control of information. This web page will focus on the last mentioned, information control.
Information Control
Through out history, mankind's governments and religious organizations have restricted their citizens from reading, viewing and speaking any information that was critical or expressed a different viewpoint other than was taught by the government or religion. Those who dared disobey were jailed, tortured, killed or shunned, being labeled as outcasts, heretics.
All information was censored and the only knowledge that was allowed by the government or religious organization were positive, upbuilding stories, whether they were true or false. They were all designed to be in favor and support, no matter what crimes, injustices, lies and false teachings were being taught and practiced. This helped persons to truly believe that their country was a righteous one, worthy of dieing for and if religious, having God's approval, worthy of dieing for. The masses were cut off from the true knowledge of what was really going on behind closed doors and teachings that would expose the leaders and their interpretations as being wrong.
Today, right in the midst of countries with adequate human rights and freedom, their exists religious groups that censor all information their members can read and watch. People are not allowed to talk to each other about anything critical of the leader, doctrine, or organization. Most importantly, people are told to avoid contact with ex-members or critics. Those who could provide the most information are the ones to be especially shunned. (1)
For instance, in the course of a one week period, all of Jehovah's Witnesses are strongly encouraged to read a 30 page magazine (the Watchtower or Awake), the weekly book study assignment, the weekly ministry school assignment, the weekly service meeting instructions and the Watchtower study article. In addition to this, there is the preparation of talk assignments, field service time, 3 weekly meetings and other projects as well as hall cleaning. All of this inundates each person in a whirlwind of activity, giving no time to read or explore any outside information in detail.
But this goes much further. All outside information of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, that is religious in nature, contradicting or disagreeing with the Watchtower, is completely forbidden. In all cases, any religious information that is in disagreement of or criticizes the Watchtower Society is labeled "apostate", "evil" and from "Babylon the Great." Anyone of Jehovah's Witnesses that is caught reading, viewing or speaking about such literature or information is addressed by the congregation elders.
If the brother found to be reading this so called "apostate" literature is a Ministerial Servant or Elder, he is most likely deleted, removed. The elders then strongly counsel the witness to destroy all so called "apostate" literature and he or she must comply. If compliance is not met, then further actions are taken.
The next step is the person looses his or her privledges in the congregation, such as restrictions of having the freedom of answering questions at meetings, going out in field service preaching. But in other cases the person is disfellowshipped from the organization and is completely shunned by all, including all family members who do not live with the person ! Needless to say, the outcome can be devastating for the person.
So here is a strong control of information over all the members of the Watchtower Society, Jehovah's Witnesses, to do what they are told and not to read, speak, view or question anything critical of the organization. If they comply, everything is fine, but if they question and look anywhere else, even if completely sincere, they are punished severely. Notice the woman throwing the literature, that she has received in the mail, into the garbage without even considering its contents.
What happens after a period of time? Certainly after much time of only reading and absorbing information strictly written and produced by the Watchtower Society, persons become indoctrinated and under mind control. They truly believe whole heartedly that all religious information that is critical or in disagreement with the Watchtower is "apostate" and part of "Babylon the Great." The Watchtower Society has now accomplished it's goal, all of it's members truly believe that they independently made the decision to believe this, when in reality, they never came to this decision on their own, but were indoctrinated to believe so.
What is so ironic about this, is how Jehovah's Witnesses are constantly working hard to distribute the Watchtower literature in the hands of outside persons. All persons who refuse to accept their literature are viewed as closed minded and spiritually blinded by Satan "the god of this system of things", except them of course. They encourage the householder to at least read the information and compare it with their religion, regardless of whether they are new in their religion or involved for many years and this makes perfect sense. The householder's refusals are constantly attempted to be overcome with the "how you might respond to conversation stoppers" in the Watchtower's reasoning book.
Here is a clear double standard. If a Christian of any denomination were to attempt to place their religious literature with one of Jehovah's Witnesses, they are not supposed to accept, per instructions from the Watchtower Society. The reason is that the information is either "apostate", if critical of the organization or from "Babylon the Great" if in religious disagreement with the Watchtower. No, a witness is not even allowed to view the information and compare it with his or her beliefs, for it is considered to be "poison", the same as pornography is, as the Watchtower states so plainly states.
It is true that reading and viewing information that is critical or in disagreement with the Watchtower Society can cause persons to question, yet this can nowhere be compared to the "poison" of pornography, as the Watchtower so brazenly claims. On the contrary, the "good news" has nothing to hide, for the truth of God cannot be exposed as false. Persons are only mislead if they follow men, such as "slave classes" and governing bodies, instead of Christ alone. Christians are "obedient and submit to those taking the lead", but do not allow them to make black and white scriptural interpretations on the many conscience matters of the bible with the threat of expulsion if not obeyed. They do not allow "those taking the lead" to be "masters over their faith."
Followers of Christ maintain Christian freedom, "where the spirit of the Lord is." And this freedom includes the God given right to read and view all biblical literature, including that which is critical or questions the teachings of man made "slave classes" and governing bodies of men. This freedom also includes the God given right to attend different churches at any time and serve God and Christ as "full grown in our powers of understanding" without the dictation of men or reliance of a "mother organization" to feed us as "babes" and do the thinking for us.

so another wonderful tract campaign will take place in november.
cities and towns will be inundated by a cheap bifold about the dead .. but the dubs are warned--if there is a "no trespassing sign" on a property enter at your own risk.

Presenting the Good News—With Discernment
1 “A man of discernment is cool of spirit.” (Prov. 17:27) The wisdom of these words is often proved true in our preaching activity. For example, we may come face to face with a sign that says, “No Soliciting.” Or, we may be asked to leave a building where we have been witnessing. In other areas, a custodian or a manager may refuse to grant entrance to a building. What can we do in these instances?
2 “No Soliciting.” Our work of preaching the good news and leaving literature with people for a freewill contribution to cover printing costs does not constitute solicitation for funds. Yet, some people will object and refer to our preaching work as soliciting. If so, we can kindly explain that our work is not commercial, that it is a missionary and evangelizing work, and that we are ministers. In so doing, our utterance should be ‘always with graciousness, seasoned with salt, so as to know how we ought to give an answer to each one.’ (Col. 4:6) If such a sign is enforced or if authorized persons insist that we are not welcome, we should quietly leave and perhaps try witnessing there at another time.
3 “Asked to leave the premises.” If a publisher is asked to leave a building where he has been preaching, he can tactfully show that his work is of a religious nature of utmost importance and is a public service. If the objection is to calling on Sunday, try to make arrangements to return on another day. If, after calmly talking to the person, you are ordered to leave, you should do so. It is not wise to insist on one’s rights and contribute to further disturbances or even unnecessary arrests. If advisable, the publisher can return on another occasion or write a personal letter giving a witness to those who live there. If you return, discernment may dictate calling at only a few doors or homes. Then return later to visit a few more. If you keep an accurate record of all residents, all may eventually receive a witness.
4 “Entrance to a building is refused.” Discernment calls for the words of Proverbs 15:1: “An answer, when mild, turns away rage, but a word causing pain makes anger to come up.” Thus, as mentioned before, it is usually best not to insist on one’s rights. However, in some places where entry is refused, making an appointment to talk with the superintendent of the building to explain our work may help to obtain permission to preach therein. Also, it may be possible to get into a building or an area in some normal, legal way, and call on one or more families at a time and in a manner unobserved by those who object. Of course, this should be done discreetly. At all times the dignity of our work should be maintained so that we “do all things for God’s glory.”—1 Cor. 10:31.
5 “The good news has to be preached.” (Mark 13:10) As we approach the end of this system, it is expected that Satan will continue to make it more difficult for us to reach sheeplike ones. May we use discernment as we preach in order to reach as many as we can with the hope from God’s Word.

4 Should you ignore “No Solicitors” signs? It should be remembered that our work is not commercial. Accordingly we conclude that the sign just does not have any application to our gospel preaching. We do not solicit funds. We leave with people life-giving information for which they may make free-will contributions.
5 You may be refused entrance into an apartment building or trailer court. This is not at all unusual. Often there may be a doorman or an elevator operator blocking your entrance. If there is no way at all to make personal calls, you may be able to make a list of the tenants and apartment numbers and write to the occupants. If there is no one on duty, then go ahead with the work in the usual way. If, while you are in a place, the superintendent or manager asks you to leave, identify yourself and explain tactfully and kindly that you are in the ministry and doing good for the tenants. If he insists that you leave, comply with his request without making a ‘scene’ and try to return from time to time until the place is covered completely. There are some apartment building owners who have incorporated in their leases stipulation that allows them to determine who shall or shall not call on the tenants. If the tenants are willing to let their landlords make such important decisions for them, they place themselves under the “community responsibility” rule and we shall not insist on making calls on them; in fact, we are legally barred from doing so. Some may be contacted when we engage in street magazine activity.
6 The courts have held that laws allowing door-to-door and street preaching by Jehovah’s witnesses, only upon permit from some official, are unconstitutional. There are still many communities, however, that insist that we comply with registration and permit ordinances. In each instance we could insist on our right and force the matter into the courts. Present world conditions being as they are, where the police are hard pressed to provide protection to citizens, we could conceivably lose such a court case. So we will agree to comply when town authorities request that we comply with such ordinances but only if there is no fee involved. However, this does not mean that we will voluntarily offer to comply with permit ordinances, because most officials agree it is not required that we do so.
7 Occasionally the so-called “Green River” ordinance is encountered. This ordinance is designed to prevent commercial salesmen from making calls at homes of people without a previous invitation. It has no application to our work. When request is made that you comply with such an ordinance, as above indicated, write to the Watchtower Society all the details, sending a copy of the ordinance and names and addresses of the police chief and city attorney.

i am just curious as to how much of a problem mental illness is among jws.
i would like to hear what others have to say regarding their own experiences in this matter.
specifically, i want to know how these individuals were handled in the congregation and whether or not being a jw contributed to the effects on mental illness.. .
i`m an optimist and i would say zilch .
i would bet you a million dollars ( if i had a million dollars ) that if you did a survey in the street that you live , asking the householders what is the life saving message jehovahs witnesses bring to your door on a regular basis , they would not have a clue.. and they have been preaching this message for over 100 years .
how inefective can they be .. the probable answers you would get are : they dont take blood transfusions.
How many people in countries like China or North Korea have even heard of JW's,let alone been preached to by them?
