i enjoy the odd thread about evoloution vs creation, etc but lately it seems that a large percentage of threads here devolve into fighting between atheists and theists and distract from what most of us here see eye to eye on, the wt and related things.
i wish things could be more civil here and fr people to realize that people will never see eye to eye on the topic.
it gets so tiring to see the contstant bickring and fighting on those threads.. they seem to go on page after page but very little of substance is discussed seeing as the existence or non existence of a god can be proven by anyone.

I have lost count how often people have said words to the effect that since it can't be proven whether or not god exists agnosticism is the only option and debate is pointless.
Hey cofty, something we agree on. Debate is never pointless on this matter. I think debate about it is healthy and actually helps a person to make a decision where they currently stand on the matter.
I am not reinventing the definition of a word - I posted evidence of what the person who invented the word actaully meant by it.
You did. However, you originally stated the word was meaningless; not that it lost its original meaning. I agree the word lost its original meaning. The word is still not meaningless.

No its not odd at all that somebody hasn't decided. Its odd that we honour that state with a label so that it becomes a virtue to proceed no further.

For one that has done the research and investigating it’s another way of saying that there is not enough evidence for either position to stand on solid ground definitely. After more evidence and data has been obtained and holes to be covered for either or both sides of the argument, this is the current line of thinking for an individual.
Certainly [additional] evidence or data may be gathered by another which leads to a different conclusion – Be it atheists or theist whether now or in the future.

The word agnostic is just a truism that tells us nothing.
It tells the opinion, belief, thought of a person respecting god/gods/higher being(s) or entity/entities. How much research, investigation, and study went into that position, is a different matter.

People who haven't done the necessary work to investigate the evidence use it as an excuse.
I'll respectfully disagree. I've done plenty of research and investigating, and I find that word to be a very accurate way to depict someone's position on the matter.
Someone could very well state that a person who claims agnostic has lost its meaning and that it is an excuse for people who haven't done the necessary work to investigate the evidence has a cognitive distortion known as polarized thinking.
