My JW mom and sister are attending a birthday party I'm hosting
by Bumble Bee inmy mom knows my position on not being a jw anymore, and we have a pretty good relationship after some rocky patches.
my younger sister is the only one that is still a jw, my older siblings had all left many many years ago, and my younger brother and his family has left now as well.
we have had a few non birithday, birthday parties in the past, no candles on the cake, no singing happy birthday, but just all getting together as a family and having a good time.

The Boring Life Of A Jehovah's Witness
by minimus inwhen you think back at how boring being a witness was, it's amazing that we lasted as long as we did.. i hear jws get sooo excited when they leave a tract with a person!
a stupid little tract!
or if a witness was asked to come into the same car that the circuit overseer was in, it would be considered such a "privilege".

My Aunt called me on Labor Day and told me it had to be quick because she was waiting for Lola to show up. I couldn't remember who that was, so I asked, pretty bored, since I actually was cleaning the toilet on Monday, at home.
Aunt--"Oh, you remember, Sister So&So".
Me---"Uh, kinda, sorta. Huh, why are you getting together on Labor Day at 2 PM?"
Aunt--"We're going out in Field Service, silly! Lots of people should be home and they should even have people over for cookouts. Lots of opportunity to tell them about Jehovah and the End."
Me--"Oh, riiiight."
I figured I better change the subject real fast before I got questioned by my Aunt on why I wasn't going in FS. So I asked how her new driveway was coming along.
Labor Day?! Field Service on Labor Day? In the afternoon?
Seriously, I would clean my toilet with my tongue, rather than go door to door preaching on Labor Day in the Afternoon. And be happy to do it. The toilet that it.
I got lucky when I was young and still in: my Mom fought against cleaning *priviledges*. We only had to do it at home, never at the KH. Thank god.
Those people are soooo F'd up.

Gregor, I'm missing that for some reason. (though, on second thought, it must not be pretty) After I read it again, I'm thinking *I know who*.
EWWWW.
Oh, and "Moi"?
I enjoy everyone's company.
Even the skanky hobag here who said I must have been sucking from the tit of society when my Mom went on Welfare when I was a child. I won't name who.
BTW, is *Skanky Hobag* a double negative?

Did You Ever Tell Someone They Smelled?
by minimus ini was "assigned" by the body of elders to talk to a pioneer/ministerial servant about his b o. he didn't have a car and so was always put in someone's car group.
everyone complained about having to take him.. when i talked to him about his stink, he got very very offended and copped an attitude.
i finally told him that unless he started bathing and washing his disgusting oily hair, he would be removed from his assignments.....what i never understood is how anybody could be told that they actually smelled and yet get pissed off with me!.

You all gave me some good laughs before Obama's speech.
Oh, as for smelly: Any Walmart at about 4 PM. The kids are off, the BC dad's just got off work and nice and dirtied up and you can smell the whole family 2 aisles away.
As for not using and/or conserving water to be green: I took the low flow thingy off my shower. I've got a flow now that will knock you off your feet. Do I pay for it? You bet. Do I waste water? Maybe.
Do I care? No.
Why? My hair, body and butt are clean. I use so much soap, it comes out the kitchen drain.
I dare Van Jones to come and try to change that one.

Love, Justice, Wisdom, Power - the Resurrection
by xelder ini have always been taught and believed that, at the end of the day, god is a perfect balance of love, justice, wisdom, and power.
when the ransom provision and christ's kingdom correct man's fall into sin, we will see this as true, no matter what trials we and all of mankind have had to face until then.
honestly, it has never mattered which of the two groups i was in.

If you're an Ex-Elder, you should have your standard JW response programmed.
"Jehovah will take care of it. We don't know what Jehovah has in store for all those people. He's a loving God." And give a compassionate smile.
Personally? I think they are toast.

What do non witnesses actually think about the evil practice of disfellowshipping?
by jambon1 inwhenever i have mentioned this practise to people who don't know much about the witnesses (although they should know about them due to the worldwide preaching activity .
to most right thinking people it is absolutely just not an option to have no contact with your immediate family.. one lady said to me "i'd rather rip my heart out".. what has been your experience when people find out that jw's carry out this evil practise?.

I met a therapist recently at a funeral for my non-JW MIL. The therapist had lived across the street from my father after he left the JWs becoming DFd when I was a child. Long story short, she is treating another EX-JW who is DFd!! She was asking me numerous questions about the DFing process and the toll etc. it takes on one.
I explained all. She was fascinated and disgusted. Her patient, she said, is having an extremely diffucult time being separated from her family. The shunning is taking a toll. That is what cults do. I told her to read up on cults and high control groups.
Everyone who I have ever met who hears about the shunning process and the required cutting off of one's family is outraged and disgusted. They can't believe that such seemingly *nice* people who knock on their doors can do such cruel things to the people they are supposed to love and protect above all others. Family.

megs, that is the point to FwB: From CNN:
You know the drill -- you want a man, but not a relationship. Or, more to the point, you want some loving, but don't want the strings attached.
Maybe you're wildly attracted to a dude physically, but find him mentally or morally lacking -- like a tanning technician or a bounty hunter.
There's no way you'd ever date him, but why should you deny yourself entirely?
Answer: Not a reason in the world.
Negotiating a long-term, friends-with-benefits type situation can be tricky for us ladies.
Dudes are seemingly born knowing how to detract emotions from physical activity. In fact, with many of them, I think it's their default setting. They can spend the night with a woman and then meander off into the sunset without giving the assignation a second thought.
But women can have a harder time of it. We worry that we're being "used" (hello? Pot meet Kettle!) or feel like we're being promiscuous -- talk about a double standard!
The trick is to accept what you've got with this person and avoid trying to make it something it'll never be. I've certainly been guilty of trying to turn a completely fine FWB into a BF, and the results were predictably disastrous.
The pitfalls to avoid:
• Language: Yes, it helps if he speaks a foreign language you don't understand, but that's not what I'm talking about. Pronouns like us or we are to be avoided like an open sore and all talk of plans further into the future than an hour or two away is verboten.
• Meals: Acceptable FWB dining situations include shared bowls of cocktail peanuts, late-night grilled cheese sandwiches, and fancy desserts. Meals to be avoided are breakfast, brunch, dinner, with a special get-out-of-jail free card for lunch.
• Conversation: Questions any more probing than "what are you wearing?" and "when can we meet?" can get a little sticky. Your FWB doesn't want to hear about your crazy mom and you really don't want him to start yapping about his Ayn Rand fixation. Keep it light, keep it moving.
• Socializing: He doesn't meet your friends, you don't meet his. That goes double for family members. The best thing about having a FWB is that he's your dirty little secret.
I remember being out with a girlfriend and running into the French-Canadian model I was spending my nights with at the time. He kissed me hello as my friend's jaw dropped down three flights of stairs. Blushing, I introduced him to my buddy who was still having trouble recovering her powers of speech. As he walked away, she punched me. Hard. "Shut up!" she yelled. I just smiled.
On second thought, if he's that hot you might want to bring him around just for a drive-by.
So, FwB is just casual sex with no guilt. For todays progressives. Young and old.
