Yes, the politicians are corrupt. That is without a doubt and cannot be disputed. Pull up *corruption* on the Trib or SunTimes web sites and you'll be amazed at the number of politicians and cops that go to jail for it.
Anyone who lives here (within the metro area) acknowledges it. I grew up in Rahm's ward. The one he was awarded.
Contracts are awarded. Jobs are awarded. Everything is based on who you know and what you've done for them.
That does not take away from the beauty of the city and the attractions.
Just don't get pulled over. You'll have to pay off someone to get out of jail.

Chicago is a wonderful city. There are so many great attractions (zoos (2) and museums, sports, the lake shore, shopping). Plus the skyscrapers. I love driving in just to look at the skyline.
If you ever have the chance to visit and sitesee in Chicago, I highly recommed it. If you know someone who lives there and can help you visit and sitesee, do it. It is a great cultural experience.
I am happy Oprah, Obama and Michelle and every other celebrity and sports figure did what they did to help the Olympic bid. I hope the city comes together and trys again. They spent about $50 million to try this time and started in 2008 with this bid, so hopefully they will do it again.

On the Chicago Trib web site, the have a live feed from the Daley Plaza which is downtown (named for the first Mayor Daley, current Mayor's Dad).
People were looking at all the jobs (in spite of neopotism and graft) the Olympics would create. Plus the tourism and ongoing money that would bring in.
Here is a cut and paste:
The Daley Plaza crowd reacted to Chicago's elimination in silence. Some members of the crowd were crying as they walked away. People blamed negative media attention on the bid and former Chicago Bulls star Michael Jordan's lack of participation as reasons for the loss.

"We weren't unified as a city. We didn't get behind this enough," said Rob Fox of Chicago.

"Michael Jordan didn't show up," said Margaret Johnson of Chicago. "His city asked him for help and he turned his back on us."

No one thought they would be eliminated in the first round. No one.
Shock and awe.
This is a big blow to Obama. I am not an Obama cheerleader, however, I wanted him to go and was happy he did what he did for Chi-Town.
I am sad.

But, Mayor Daley has assured Chicagoans that it will not cost them anything. (I live in the suburbs--full disclosure-- )
Could he be lying? Not King Daley!!
Seriously, I know it will cost the city, the suburbs, etc.
I am torn. I think it will make the city a nightmare to go into during 2016. It already is now with traffic. OTOH, I would hate to see Chicago passed over when they are in the running and are so close.
Chicago is an incredible city. Everyone who visits says so. People who have never been here are amazed at how beautiful it is and how much it has to offer once they get here. (Besides the hot dogs)

Chicago has a dirty lake and fat people munching on sausages. Easy choice.
The lake is clean. We get our drinking water from it. We may be growing things Darwin didn't intend, however, we still will drink it. And then there is alway beer.
And sausages? Those are for Milwaukee.
Here it's Vienna Hot Dogs. Those are NOT sausauges.
Or Italian Beef. Or Pizza. Chicago Style. Deep Dish.
I vote for Chicago. In case you didn't pick up on that.

The keister bomb is the newest terror threat

al-qaidas new method of delivering a deadly payload in effect a plastic explosive suppository would make security experts nervous, you might think.. it is not easily spotted by conventional detectors.. but it does have some who know their explosives busting a gut.. a month ago in saudi arabia, a terrorist named abdullah hassan tali al-asiri reportedly walked past palace checkpoints with a small bomb inserted in a body cavity.

judging by the al-qaida video featuring him proudly holding a device before committing the deed, it was about 3 inches long.. he wanted to blow up a saudi prince but succeeded only in blowing off his own bottom half and destroying the floor, killing himself in the process.. his intended target, prince mohammed bin nayef, and others in the room were largely unharmed.

a saudi news service quoted the prince saying, understatedly, he surprised me by blowing himself up.. suffice to say al-asiris technique has given rise to the term keister bomb online.. it sounds almost like drunk logic, where an idea sounds great until the next morning and youre sober, going, noooo, that wont work, said paul worsey.
