So my elder/dad says he will shun me....i figured as much...
by oompa inso i know many of you guys say the best way to show dubs is to be all happy and all when you exit.....but not all of us are doin that well at it....even though i have lost all friends from my dub life....i really dont want to lose my son and folks....this would happen if i end this odd and painful arrangement of a marriage to a really wonderful wife who is hardcore jw.
my desire for freedom and normal social life, and the 800 lb gorilla in the room we live with are not doing so well...........i am tired of having to leave the house and go in the garage to talk on the phone with my non-dub friends.....tired of totally separate social lives.......tired of rules in place that prevent us from speaking about certain taboo topics with each other........my mental/emotional state is not well and has not been for four years.
so i spoke with my dad very openly and honestly about how i have had to wear "masks" through life....one for school since third grade to fit in....another for my parents and jw friends........and that now i still lead a double life when not around my wife........told him outright i feel jws meet every single definition of a cult btw.......he already knew i felt that way but had never said it so directly........i asked him if he felt history repeats itself and could fds not be just like the scribes and pharisees that made so many rules for gods people that they had actually corrupted gods message............he said he has wondered that before too.

he said he has wondered that before too
as i suspected, he said he would have no choice but to shun me just as he does my dfd son
I'm so sorry. Having your parent acknowledge that they will cut you off, because the Cult in Brooklyn tells them to, is simply, unbelieveable. Unless you've been a Dub.
Please hang in there. I know that sounds hollow, but, you have come so far in the last month. Don't let his being blind in this cult get you off track.

WCS-Sorry, I gotta go with JD on this one.
Especially during cold and flu season.
Being a *Newbie* is relative-You've been here since 9-2-09. 81 posts. So, Newbie.
Hugs are pretty personal. We still need details.
Someone/thing die?
Get cheated on? DFd?
Hangnail?

Tax them!
Unhealthy / Fat / Diabetes Tax. Call it what you want.
Let the law makers figure out how to spend redistribute it.

I don't hug on demand. Especially someone I don't know.
And a newbie.
It's like when the bosses wife visits and suddenly wants to hug as a greeting.
Weird.
We really need to know why you need a hug.

H.R. 42: The Freedom to Display the American Flag Act of 2005
Signed into law in 2006
Freedom to Display the American Flag Act of 2005 - States that a condominium association, cooperative association, or residential real estate management association may not adopt or enforce any policy, or enter into any agreement, that would restrict or prevent an association member from displaying the U.S. flag on residential property within the association with respect to which such member has a separate ownership interest or a right to exclusive possession or use. States that nothing in this Act shall be considered to permit any display or use that is inconsistent with: (1) federal law or any rule or custom pertaining to the proper display or use of the flag; or (2) any reasonable restriction pertaining to the time, place, or manner of displaying the flag necessary to protect a substantial interest of the condominium, cooperative, or residential real estate management association. Beks, perhaps you need to read a few more library books. Or the Internet.

"Stone the infidels", erm ... I mean apologists (IMPORTANT)
by Simon ini've noticed a trend lately which is becoming annoying and is definitely something we want to address and put a stop to.. we'll see topics or get pms about some 'evil poster' that is making abusive posts or harrassing someone, driving people from the forum, yada yada and so we look ... and find nothing.
we ask for examples of their behavior where they have harrassed people and it goes rather quiet.
in fact, we find just the opposite - people being respectful and in return getting abusive posts directed towards them.. and why the hostility?.

Do what I do when you realize that the apologist is posting stuff that annoys you:
Close the thread. Close your browser. Walk away. Don't post. Simply ignore.
You feed their *want* to get under your skin. The more posters who post on those threads, the more they keep posting their drivel.
Sometimes it is very difficult to walk away. However, after a few minutes it wears off.

The assembly hall at 79th and Ashland in Chicago had some gooood food. Having an uncle who was a DO was helpful. We got to work the food area which took us out of the talks.
The summer assemblies were the best-Hawthorn Race Track! We had a steak sandwich stand. This was in the late '70's. Got it going for lunch, which meant getting all the food ready, (sandwiches, fries, drinks) then cleaning up. I could care less about the assembly. I got to eat and miss the stinky crowd.
There was a pizza stand, a hot dog stand, chips, you name it, they had it.
My Mom now has to take her own lunch to the assemblies. Which is totally f-d up. She packs a lunch, drives about 75 miles, sits, eats a warm turkey sandwich and goes to Burger King for dinner on the way home.
Crazy.
Yeah, it used to be good.
