  The Real Issues Facing former Jehovah's Witnesses

  on internet forums such as these, it is to be expected that there will be people who want to save jw's.

  esp from (thinking for) themselves.. however, the real dillema's facing an ex jw who leaves, whether on their own terms or being disfellowshipped are real and haven't changed.. .

  lonliness, how to make friends, is a big issue.. fear, esp fear based on superstition, a fear of god and of the future that is not in any way based in proveable fact.. education, how to think and reason critically to avoid being taken advantage of is a big challenge.. love, sex, and how to navigate your way around all of that hot mess.. geez, yeah, forgot.

  just kidding, let's talk drugs.. as a kid growing up in the mid-80's and through the 90's, we had all kinds of lame, pointless anti-drug programs at school.

  Talked to my Mom this morning, discussion turned to BIL. Her take? He's demonized!!

  After this thread I almost laughed out loud!! She brought up his pain killers and then, "He's demonized you know?" All I could think about was this thread and drugs = demons.

  I wonder, do demons embed themselves into Oxy pills and rise up in ones stomach? Does a whole Linda Blair/Excorcist thing need to happen to get rid of it (them) or will simply going to the Betty Ford Clinic work?

  No, BIL was not a JW. I was at the time. My sis had recently got married to him and was DFd as a result of hooking up with him.

  My thoughts:

  Perscription drugs for pain: My BIL is hooked on them. Hard time. He started with pot at least 35 years ago. I know that for a fact. He stole some from a client I cleaned for. (I was a cleaning lady as college student, BIL was doing some repair work) Both had the key and I stupidly told BIL and Sis that Joe Client had a huge stash of pot in XSX. Next thing I know Joe Client calls and asks me where it is. Long story short, Joe Client confronts BIL who sings like a bird. Yes, he took it. Only a little. But enough for Joe Client to miss.

  BIL went on to heroin and who know what else. I do know he's on Oxy. He admits it freely. Sis is in stage 4 cancer and he takes her pain meds any time he can. Dirty PIG.

  He's wasted away to nothing. Probably on Meth.

  He's destroyed his family. Our family. All for drugs. Over the years he's the poster child for how to F-up your life with Narcotics. Not booze, just Narcotics.

  He's stolen, sold and gone into bankruptcy.

  I hate street drugs and now prescription pain meds. Everyone is getting hooked on them.

  So, start with pot and eventually you could become my BIL. A heaping POS. All he does is breathe.

  Should he be in jail? I don't care. I just want him out of our lives. And he will be when Sis dies.

  Anniversary of my mums death....the JW robbed me of time with her and I cant forgive them.

  its been 2 years.

  she was lying in intensive care (i didnt know she only had a few days left)...... building up to the bloody convention in cardiff millenium stadium.

  I wish my Mom would visit my sis who is dying in the hospital as I type this. She has various excuses, however, I know it's the religion.

  OMG shunning story

  my wife and i went to fedex / kinko's this afternoon and ran into a girl who was df'ed several years ago, (her parents are quite the rabid jw's.).

  they have two daughters, and the younger one recently got married at the kh.. the older one who we were talking to proceeded to tell us that she decided to attend her younger sisters wedding ceremony which was fine despite the fact that nobody talked to her.. but after the wedding she was basically ushered out of the hall.

  she was not allowed to participate in any pictures, or allowed to speak to the new couple.

  Terrible.

  Now a way to fight back.

  In this day of tiny digital electronic video devices, take one along on your next JW outing and start the camera rolling.

  I used my iPhone to video a recent encounter with a JW and someone else. I am debating what to do with it.

  iPhones with video capabilities are incredible. Ethical? I leave that up to you. However, as a source of proof of what you are talking about and to prove the point, invaluable.
