  Children of adult ex-jw's

  my wife and i were both jw's for the past 28 years.

  we left two years ago, we wrote our da letters and split.. my wife felt very contained, there was no room to grow.

  i started to fade slowly, but when my mom died, i saw the complete lack of love from the brothers and that sealed the deal for me.. we have two sons, 22 and 26, who we raised as witnesses, not the die hard type, just try and do your best.

  I was raised in it as was my sister. She became the angry one who is now a vocal atheist. I am very quiet about my beliefs. She is so angry in fact that if our still in parent and or relatives (who speak to her in spite of her being DFd) send her e-mails with any type of JW message or alluding to "Good News" or the "System of Things", she goes ballistic and sends off a tirade on how stupid they are and why Atheists Rule!!!

  She will then send our mother lists of why she hates the JWs. It is really sad and sick. It gets her no where and our mother is never going to leave the dubs. She is hard core and needs that social club/cult. BTW, my sis has been out for 30 years, so I don't know if it gets any better.

  Were You Happy That Jack Barr Of The GB Died?

  i read that some are quite happy that another gb bites the dust.. i think of my "faithful" elderly jw mother who helped many many families come into the "truth".

  she's an intelligent woman.

  however, she's blinded by her beliefs (being in a cult).

  Death and Taxes. Both are certain.

  While I am never happy someone dies, I am always puzzeled that people are so surprised when someone, especially elderly, dies.

  I'm even more surprised that people could care that someone they don't know personally dies. Who cares? The average JW wouldn't know this guys name. I asked my mom and she said "Who", is that a friend of yours?" I burst out laughing.

  I'll really be unhappy when it happens to me.

  How come witnesses can seem to be very friendly to the uninformed worldlies?

  i know that jehovah's witnesses are told not to be part of the world and not to have worldly friends.

  i know that some witnesses do have friends.

  but, what i'm curious about is how a witness could sustain polite and seemingly friendly interaction with worldlies and at the same time feel that these are not people s/he should befriend.

  Cults and Ponzi schemes needs new members to survive.

  How do car salesmen do their job? How do Avon ladies try to sell their product?

  That is why I never could make it as a dub. I didn't buy into the product they were selling and couldn't convince even one homeowner to purchase my magazines.

  i took pride as a 9 year old "boy" that i was a "minister".

  i had a card that i carried in my wallet (with no money in it) that said i was a "minister"..

  When I read the question, I laughed out loud, snorted and giggled. My DH asked why? I couldn't explain.

  I never, ever thought of myself as an "ordained minister". Knowing, now, what that term literally means, *I* should have been able to legally marry people, etc. *I* couldn't. Nor could I recite one bible passage on cue.

  i've got one!.

  you don't have to wait in long xmas lines at the store to buy xmas presents.

  as a matter of fact, you don't have to buy a damn thing!.

  Being picked as a child on builds character.

  Being uneducated means you'll never know what you don't know.

  Being a window washer or any other blue collar employee means you'll always find work. You just won't have much of a retirement.

  You do save lots of money between no gifts, no college expenses, no private schools, no dance lessons, no after school activities, no parties, etc. on the kids. Given that, retirement really should be golden for the blue collar crowd in the dubs.

  Flying to Orlando tomorrow, my daughter is in the hospital

  my daughter is in the hospital with pneumonia, and possibly a blood clot in her lung.

  they'll be testing through the night...apparently, her heart is enlarged as well.

  she is scared... and if her jw father catches wind of it, he will be there trying to intefere with her treatment... he lives close by to her, so i'll be flying down in the morning....to head him off at the pass.

  Do JW's read other books?

  when i ask my jw friend if she has read various classic books, she says, "i don't like to read.

  " however, she of course reads all the wt stuff.

  i don't know too many jw's, but the ones i have seen in the meetings seem mostly uneducated and, even when speaking from the platform, seem almost illiterate - that is, unable to pronounce certain words even in the wt literature.

  Not that I know of. Which, as pointed out, keeps them from learning about other stuff.

  I have tried to get my mom to read other books; she won't. Says she doesn't have time.

  I loved to read as a kid and would go to the library on my bike and get Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, and every other series of books I could. I would check them out and hide them under my bed. I cleaned my room and mom never looked so I was safe. I would read at night by flashlight.

  i for one would not want to work with people with mental illness or depression just in case they were possessed by some of those pesky spirits.. .

  How can someone read this and not burst into laughter during the Sunday meeting? (then get mad, especially if you or a family member are affected?)
