Being a JW Used to Be Fun :-)
by snowbird inwe found some people who were happy to welcome us into their homes, even offering us food and drink.. sometimes, they would flag us down and ask for the magazines, walk miles to the kh meetings, come to our defense if someone got ugly or rude.. now, jw's are either routinely ignored or outright vilified.. no one respects them anymore.. sad.. .

I remember growing up, there was so many activities going on with witnesses. I think the one that I enjoyed the most was skating every Sunday night. In Los Angeles it seems that most skating rings have closed down. My children don't have nearly as many recreational activities as I did. -

Thank you for reposting these great experiences! Hearing stories about what actually happened in Brooklyn is wonderful to me! I enjoyed them eight years ago and even more so today. -

Is the Pioneer School being eliminated?
by wannaexit ini heard from the semi reliable source that the pioneer schools will go the way of the dodo bird next year.. i could see this happening.
it used to be that you went to the the pioneer school once.
then they allowed dubs to go every 5 years.

I remember Pioneer school all too well! I really hated having different congregations bring in food every day! Some sisters would tell me; "Don't eat this ......it is from a nasty sister! LOL
It's incredible that most witnesses don't see all of these moves as downsizing!

I can't wait to watch your videos when I get home (wifi). These type of experiences are always the best! Please continue to share your experiences… It's great to know that others have felt the same way (that I did) when garbage was spewed by the organization! -

What Are Your Hobbies Now That You're Out?
by lilbluekitty ini've been getting really into cooking lately!
i do have most of the same hobbies i had before, (i've always been into art and reading and watching movies and travelling) only now i can do them whenever and don't have to worry about meetings getting in the way or people telling me i spend too much time with "recreation.

Overlapping generation segment on the new Circuit Assembly program
by traveb inso there i was at the circuit assembly sunday morning with my eyes glazed over as usual when all of a sudden, bam!
a demo with two brothers talking about the new overlapping generation teaching.
the reason it took me by surprise was because it occured during the second talk of the sunday morning symposium, "sanctify god's name by your speech".

The entire foundation of the religion is based on 1914 / generation teaching. With this being built on sand, they realize that MOST can't explain the double-speak. Although this may be just for clarification, or it may be a precursor to another change.

by blondie inhowever, love for god and for his.
our love for god and his dear son = is of no value unless we are part of the human/earthly organization, the wts.

Special day Last talk "No formula"
by MommieTiger inthis weekend at our special assembly day, let gods will take place the final talk was a head shaker.... the bethel speaker was quite entertaining when he joked @ the shortcomings of the elders.
he also made us laugh with the comment "we were told the end of the system is right around the corner, but we've found its been more than that, we've been around the blocks a few times.
" he told the young ones to make the truth their own by researching in the wtbts publication (only).

This a great thread, thank you for posting!! I don't come out much, but you definitely caught my attention. I am sure that this brother was probably ad-libing away from the outline. All that I have ever heard for 30 years is how CLOSE we are and we better be ready. It's interesting that someone actually is backing away (ever so slightly) from the long held "The end is coming tomorrow mentality"
Again, great thread!!!

Have you noticed that the Watchtower is not emphasizing how close the end is as much?
by stuckinamovement inmaybe i am off base, but it seems that the last year or so hasn't had the standard retoric about how "imminent, close, or soon" the end will be.
it seems as if the focus is now on obeying the governing body.
have you noticed this?.

It's hard for me to go to the meetings because that's all that I hear from the platform. They say more than ever how close we are to the end. I am wondering if anyone actually believes the BS. Then I look around and see how 60% of the KH has been in the org. for less than 10 years, so this is all new to them. I was baptized in the early 1980's so it's really painful for me to listen to. Kinda like a 10 YO who has to hear his parents talk about the Tooth Fairy and Santa to his 4 YO sibling. (Hey KID, they are lying to YOU!!!!!)

Dec 15th WT: "Be like Solomon and don't go to university / don't be like Solomon and join a sports team!"
by cedars inthanks to 'gayle' for bringing our attention to the fact that the december 15th watchtower has now been uploaded to jw.org.
it doesn't take long to reach the first juicy bit on pages 8 and 9, this time regarding higher education:.
it would be good to ask, am i taking to heart solomons example of treasuring divine wisdom?

The information presented at the meetings are unbearable. I stopped reading the literature some time ago. I think to myself, "Am I the only one seeing this BS?" I am throughly concvienced that no THINKING/Reasoning individuals attend the meetings anymore. It is not possible!!
