Lets list everything that has pagan origins!!
by song19 ini have a feeling i am going to have to explain to my jw folks why i have decided to allow my children to participate in holidays at school.
theyll probably be wondering too why i will get together with our non jw family for the holidays.. .
we know jws avoid holidays because of their pagan origins.

Any hope?
by Kool Jo inso as you may know, my parents are hardcore jw's...however, something they said to me a couple nights ago got me thinking and wondering if my parents could be awakened.... the c/o who was in town and in one of his talks, related an example of when he visited another congregation.
he stated that he asked a sister why her husband wasn't at meeting with her....the sister stated that her husband was at work...the c/o's reply..."that's a horrible excuse"!?!?!?!.
my parents found the c/o's comment disturbing...and when my parents brought up the conversation, i was surprised they said the c/o must have lost his mind...my parents stated nobody knows when the system is going to end so we still need to work and a man has the biblical obligation to cater to his family.

Kool Jo:
Not being born in and not having any mental problems I would push the envelope further than with born in parents. Check your kh library and see what books you can get your hands on. If you can get your hands on Russell's Study in the Scriptures you'll be a lucky man. If they have anything that old try Russell's SS3 - Thy Kingdom Come.
You can tell your parents you're going to start having regular personal study time. If you can get your hands on old books from the library use that, if not if your parents know anyone with old books that you can research on Russell's original thoughts. There are some dubs who don't view Russell's books with high regard but these are generally asshole elders who know exactly what's in those books and where they lead to.
Make a plan, get your parents involved in your personal studies, and see how they react to different information you uncover and how they respond. Don't expect to wake them up over night if ever but your chances are better than that of born in parents. If they allowed you or even encouraged you to go to college, most likely they would never shun you or treat you like many other witnesses but you know them and you've watched them over the years how they acted with others and what they said of others who were df.
Good luck.
ps. This thread might give you some ideas.

The June arrival was only invisible and seen only by chosen few while in Sep the world will experience the glorified site which was prophesied by earlier letter.

1914 vs 1874- evidence of dishonesty in the Watchtower Mags
by WildeLover ini have a query about 1874/1914 for the beginning of the lord's presence.. .
in the literature, this is what was said-->.
when a foreign head of state visits a country, the dates of his presence there are generally announced.

Thanks, that was a very well written paper. It's always good to have something that well written which documents the evolution of 1914. It's hard to remember the details of all the crap wts did over the years so it's nice to have something in researched form.

Compile the list: Jehoobie HATES:
by hamsterbait ini want to compile a list of all the things the witless death god wastes his inexhaustible energy on.. (other than resisting the temptation to save starving children or protect them from pedos).
the first thing jehoobie hates on my list (at least since the coraline dvd for witless kids/victims).

But most of all he hates, detests higher education because you might to realize the big J is actually no J at all but a figment of someones imagination.

I believe this is 1911 editions but this isn't a scan. And I checked my 1911 ed vs 1891 ed and the change is from 1874 to 1914 but doesn't talk about JC returning in 1914 but the time of trouble. Heres a scan of the page 342 from both editions of Thy Kingdom Come (Studies in the Scriptures vol3). 1911 on the left and 1898 on the right.

WTS printed, taught and preached everywhere that Jesus returned in 1874 until official change took place in 1943. So if you're asking where you can find 1874 date as Jesus' return, pick practically any publication prior to 1930s and you'll find it there. The 1930s were the transition period where Rutherford swept the date under a rug and began hinting that JC returned in 1914.
But you also confuse the return of JC in kingly power with simple return, you see, what 1914 is to JWs today is not what it was to early Bible Students. Russell taught that JC returned invisibly in 1874 but didn't take power until 1878 because 3.5 years had to pass for the king to take his kingly powers. That might have corresponded to 3.5 years of earthly ministry. (I don't remember all the details anymore) But the last days began prior to JCs return, as they've began in 1799 and they were to last until the conclusion of this system of things in 1914 which was the end of gentile times but also supported by the calculation of the 40 years of harvest work from 1874 and lets not forget that 1914 and all the previous dates mentioned well fully supported by the pyramid of Giza calculations. Harvest work corresponded to JC's baptism in 30AD and end of 40 years to 70AD where Jerusalem was destroyed.
What you will also notice how wts deceives the reader by implying that they foresaw JCs return some 40 years prior to 1914, well usually they don't say that but rather they say that they foresaw the end of Gentile Times in 1914 some 40 years prior and this way the reader doesn't get the full sense of what wts is saying, because technically what they print is correct as 1914 was always end of gentile times with wts BUT most who read wts publications correspond 1914 with JC's return and all that is meant by 1914 today and not what 1914 was at the time.
"Seeing that the 1335-day period must end with a blessed time to the people of God, it does not appear that anything came to pass to show a fulfillment thereof in 1874, even though the latter date marks the beginning of the Lord’s presence and the beginning of his work in preparing the way before Jehovah" - wt Dec 15, 1929, p.876 par.35
"The Scriptural proof is that the second presence of the Lord Jesus Christ began in 1874 A.D." - 1930 Prophecy, p.65
Added:
Cofty: what scans are you lookng for? SS never changed the 1874 to 1914, what they did change was measurements of the passageway of Pyramid of Giza but with either change the end result was 1914, but that date might have been changed to 1915 in latter editions of SS3 (Thy Kingdom Come)
SS3-Thy Kingdom Come 1891 edition
SS3-Thy Kingdom Come 1898 edition
I also have 1911 edition but I run out of room to upload it. I may upload it later and add a link.

I don't remember if you mentioned this or not prior, but your parents don't sound like they were born ins. Sounds like they are quite normal folks believing wts lies. Maybe ask them if they ever heard of or read of Crisis of Conscience and Ray Franz. If yes, then judging from their reaction you can ask more questions and if not maybe tell them you heard he was a gb member who stepped down and was df for eating a meal with a da employer and wrote autobiography. You can see their reaction and what they say, and from there you can either imply interest in reading the book and what they thought or simply end the conversation and agree that you shouldn't read ex-jw books.
Appearing quite normal they may be interested in reading it themselves. If they have interest in history or reading wts publications, you can try to get Russell's Thy Kingdom Come book in their hands as a present or maybe do some research on the 607 articles (2011, Oct & Nov) and find some books quoted in the articles and ask why the quotes mentioned in the wt article is a misquote to what the author was really talking about.
Ask questions, and watch their reactions and what they say and maybe you can get them to start to research.

Hello,
So lurking here prior to Bethel, what made you decide you wanted to go to Bethel after reading posts here? If your views have changed since then, what done it and what's your view of the future? Has Bethel helped you cement the reality about wts?
College is the way to go at your age, well at any age for those who gave up that part of their life for the sake for the cult.
