I grew up with Dick JAne and Sally. I also absolutely loved the Box car children series.

I learned to read with Dick and Jane and Sally. How about you?
by Fatfreek ini can hardly believe the prices they're getting for pristine copies of those books they handed out to those of us with scalps populated with lice, hands and fingers encrusted with bits of jelly and dried mud.
they're getting between $100 and $200 per copy.. thanks to google images, i couldn't resist taking another peek between some of those charming colored pages as a reminder to what we were actually exposed to in trying to make us literate.. most of these look contemporary to when i went to school -- the 1940's.
one of them may go back into the 1930's.

Elder uses Congregation Bible Study as an opportunity to ban the movie Avatar
by easyreader1970 inlast night, during the congregation bible study, the conductor (overseer?
) used this as a platform to say that the movie avatar is of satan and no christians should see it.. .
he said that he googled the (original) meaning of the word avatar and it was of hindu religious origin.

I remember when Event Horizon came out and seeing an elder and two MS in the cinema watching it.
Hey...somebody has to preview it to see if it is a possible stumbling block. They probably preview porn too.

Mama will not be transfused
by voodoo lady ini've been a long-time reader of this site and have found it everything from informative to entertaining... but i'm now posting because i'm craving the ears (or eyes, i guess) of people who understand.. .
my mother was just last week diagnosed with an "ovarian type" cancer.
the oncologist discussed with her how far the cancer has already spread, and said she would operate immediately to remove as much of it as possible, but would not proceed if my mother resisted a transfusion as the risk of blood-loss will be too great.

VooDoo Lady, sorry for the situation. I would like to give you a heads up on her treatment for the cancer. Please do as much research as possible. My mother had a cancer in her female organs and they treated with chem and radiation. They cured her cancer but the radiation treatment of the pelvic area resulted in burns in colon which within a year started to bleed. She didn't know what it was (she said she thought hemorhoids I think she was afraid colon cancer)and ignored it to the point she had a heart attack with a hemoglobin that eventually dropped to 3.5. She wouldn't take a blood transfusion but fortunately agreed to procrit (a derivitive I think). They sent her home to die but due to the procrit she and a treatment for the burns she has survived. My point has nothing to do with whether she takes blood or not just a heads up to really really research her options and there side effects.

Should I walk away from my "underwater" home?
by The Berean inmillions are now facing the dilemma of making house payments on a property that is not worth what is being paid.
.
after originally promising to repay the bank, is there a "moral" obligation to continue in a dwelling, even at a loss ... or is it best to exercise the "legal" right of foreclosure and pay the consequences ?.

You know what else really pisses me off? Those commercials for getting out of paying all your back taxes. If people just paid them when they owed them instead of letting them stack up, they wouldn't be in such trouble
I feel exactly the same way. And for my 2 cents worth I am with the "if you can afford it keep it, if you are in serious financial trouble as in you lost your job or had to take a cut in pay and can no longer afford the payment. restructure or walk away" crowd.

has anyone heard of curse on JW regarding fertility?
by God Chick inwhile in jw i knew so many women who had trouble falling pregnant or had trouble keeping babies to term including my own family.
out of us 6 girls only 2 could fall pregnant.. i've heard since leaving that the masons have a curse on them that effects fertility, since the founders of jw were masons has it passed on?.
the bible does talk about curses and that they were generational.. is this an urban myth?

its not "new light" its a "new thought"
by highdose inlike alot of you here, i've been making jw's i know aware of yet another flip flop by their cult.. the response i got from one of them was amazing, she said "its just a new thought thats all" and also "well they ( the gb) have been teaching the same thing about the generation for some time, because they've always said that the anointed was included in the generation, whether the great crowd was meant to be included or not doesn't matter, so actual its all remained the same".
could someone please tell me the difference between "new light and "new thought"??
?.

And, after that set reaches its end, what's to stop them from adding yet another set? And so on forever?
After so many the fuse blows and then there will be no light.

I've got to agree with freeman on the Rush comments. I believe that if he lost his job and a liberal station offered him a new job a few years down the road when he had spent all his money on oxy he would be singing the opposite tune. It is his job to stir up the pot...it is what gets the ratings. Not to say that he doesn't want to make me puke but more for the poor people that actually hang on every word.

Christmas, the worst time of year for Jehovah's Witnesses
by koolaid-man inthe holidays are here and they certainly do present a problem for jehovah's witnesses once again.
christmas parties at work, getting christmas bonuses, dealing with holiday greetings, christmas carols, decorated trees and houses, santa claus everywhere, christmas candy, sleighbells ringing brings the witnesses into a very troubling and disturbing time of year.how do most witnesses handle it all?
we will be discussing these questions with former witnesses and active witnesses on the conference call this saturday night, december 19,2009 at 7 p.m. the conference call is presented like a radio talk show program.

Mouthy, I totally agree with JWinprotest. They, I would bet my bottom dollar, are eternally gratefull that you showed them the way to everlasting life. They are surely saddened that you have "left Jehovah". Fortunately, for me with reguard to my family, I don't believe a loving god is going to destroy the witnesses who are sincere in there beliefs any more than he will destroy the rest of the normal people. So if they are happy in their beliefs so be it. At some point they may realize the same things you have, so enjoy the season and think fondly of your family.

Is that real or did you go to all the trouble to mock up a web site for Jdubs? If it is real I am just flabbergasted!
