An observation on being free of WT busywork...

Ilovebirthdays
We have had a very busy summer here. But not much to show for it. Every day but 3 we've been playing (I have a 4 and 6 year old and I stay at home with them) visiting, or something of that nature. I can't say we have anything physical to show for all of that, except for a tan. However, we've been having a great time, seeing my husband's family, finding new relationships with old friends, finding new friendships, and generally just having fun. Unlike being a JW, we've found joy in pretty much every day, and summer has just flown by. My kids have told me multiple times how much fun they've been having this summer. Unlike being a JW, when every day would just morph into another, boring as usual and we never did anything with anyone else that didn't revolve around meetings or FS. We may not have anything to show for it, but we're happy, socialized and don't regret it at all. Busy is much more fun than busy-work.

How many times (after high school) have you fallen in love?
by UnConfused inand how far apart were they?.
thanks.

Twice. About a year apart. I've been married to the second one for almost 12 years, and am happy the first "love" didn't work out.

I second Komodo dragons. Their poisonous slobber would have killed pretty much everything they bit within weeks.

Aren't You Embarrassed That YOU Ever Believed Any Of The Watchtower Bullsh*t?

Not anymore. Another born in here. I got out on my 25th birthday, and I don't think I would have had any skills to survive before then, since I wasn't even allowed to have a job until I was 21. (If I'm going to be embarrassed about something, I think I'd pick the fact I let my parents dictate I couldn't have a job until then as something to be embarrassed about.) I was born and raised in a cult, and I managed to make it out. That's what matters.
What I am is grateful that I got out before I was married and had kids. I don't have to deal with all the, um, stuff that comes with being married to a JW when I'm not one, and my kids are growing up being able to enjoy so many things I wasn't able to.

Ex girlfriend a JW
by witnessdater ini dated a jw for nearly three years.
i had known her through business for a long time, and didn't really know that much about what jws believed, or anything really about the cult-like characteristics the organization has.
we dated before i was divorced, while i was separated heading toward divorce for about a year.

I'm afraid I've never even been to Birmingham, but I had to comment on your post.
I'm sorry to say that I put my boyfriend (now husband) through much of what it sounds like you went through with your ex. The one thing I've found it hard for anyone to understand unless they've gone through a similar situation as being a JW is the overwhelming feelings of guilt that make you do crazy things no matter what your mental state. I loved my boyfriend very much but would run very hot and cold on him, not because my feelings for him had changed, but because I would cycle through stages of overwhelming guilt that I just didn't know how to deal with. I, too, would often come up with reasons (which weren't valid in my head) to break things off just because I couldn't deal with the guilt I was feeling. Fortunately, he was somehow able to deal with all the uncertainty until I finally left.
That is one of the (many) bad things about this religion. They hurt people who have never even been to a single meeting. There are quite a few stories here and other ex-JW forums that are quite similar to yours and my husbands. Even though my husband was able to put up with all my "craziness" he still was quite worried about me freaking out again for several years. We have been married almost 12 years, and I know it has just taken time, and hearing other people's stories for him to come close to understanding what was going on. I found this board 11 years after I left, so I was in a good place at the time, but this board really has helped me with sharing other stories with him to help him understand what I was going through and give him the peace of mind to realize it wasn't my feelings for him flip-flopping, but the whole pressure and guilt trips I was going through causing me to have wild personality changes. I hope you stick around and and realize that no matter how wonderful you were, you just were up against something so big and controlling (even if she wasn't regular at meetings) that it could have such horrible consequences on your relationship if. The deck really was stacked against you, I'm afraid, and having been on the other side of the relationship, I'm so sorry for what you had to go through. I'm sure your ex was, too.

Tempur - pedic mattresses
by linp24 infolks, do you own a tempur pedic mattress?
if you do, are you satisfied with it?
how bout a sleep number bed?.
-
Ilovebirthdays
I hated the Tempurpedic. It felt like I was laying on a mixture of sand and pudding. The guy at the store said that people either love them or hate them, there really is no in-between. We put out the money for a really nice, fairly firm pillow top mattress about 5 years ago, and it still is great. My husband has had several back surgeries, and he's done much better since we got this mattress.
Whatever you decide, make sure to get yourself a really nice pair of sheets with a high thread count if you don't have one already. We bought our first set of nice sheets when we got the mattress, and I think I spent about a month going to bed at 8, just because it was so amazingly comfortable.

Do You ENJOY The Holidays & Birthdays Now That You Can Celebrate Them?
by minimus inwhether it be father's day, mother's day, christmas or even a birthday, do you actually enjoy the celebrations, the spending of $$, and all that these festivities entail?.
or would you rather be a jw (just) for those times and not deal with it all?.
-
Ilovebirthdays
Check out my screen name and take a wild guess. The only reason I wasn't IlovebirthdaysandChristmas was because that seemed like too long a user name. I overcompensate big time when it comes to holidays.
I will say, though, my whole theory on fireworks is that once you've seen one display, you've pretty much seen them all.

Somebody just said to me, "Happy Father's Day." I looked back at him and said, "Happy Father's Day. Have a good weekend!" Weird...

right after posting in that thread, i went for my lunch break.
so i hit the elevator, and was standing near the main doors to the office building i work at.

Maybe she's trying to surprise you, Mad Sweeney? I'm pretty sure my husband thinks I've forgotten, but the kids and I were out all morning getting stuff and making him cards and getting his present ready.
