Definitely a potatoes kind of person. Meat--complicated, I guess. We tend to do 2-3 veggie dinners a week, and don't really eat red meat. We don't put a lot of meat in what we eat, either, and I don't really think I ever have a dinner where there is just a hunk of meat, it is usually cut up in something and not the main focus. But when it is grilling season (not long here in Oregon) we have steak or hamburgers a few times.

I wish I had left earlier than I did (I left at 25) but, in hindsight, I'm just really happy I left before I got married and had children.

Do You Think Some Witnesses Are Mentally Ill Or Mentally Impaired....
by minimus inand that's why they are in the religion?.
i recall many jws over the years who were what i'll call "weird"---and looking back at it, many witnesses are "odd" and "different"..

I can remember so many times when I would look around the congregation and think to myself that I was only a child, but why did I seem like the only one to realize that so many in the hall weren't just kind of odd but seriously not right in the head. It wasn't just your average publisher, either, it was the PO, and a few elder's wives, a prominent pioneer or two, and ALL of those who declared themselves anointed. And then I got older and left and found a job in the local pharmacy, and realized how many of those people were on anti psychotic meds, and felt justified.

Do you require chocolate?
by compound complex in.
is chocolate one of the major food groups?
i love but never actually buy chocolate; today i succumbed to a seller's entreaty to give the ol' chocolate chewie bistro cake a try [for half price].. i'm entering into a coma even as .... .

Yes, I do.
FYI, there's an AMAZING chocolatier based out of Central Point, OR by the name of Jeff, and his company is called Lilliebelle Farms. A bit expensive but worth it. IMO, much better than Moonstruck chocolates.

Ladies - Have you ever thought about shaving your head - all off?
by Lady Lee ini've thought about it.
when i first moved to ottawa i knew a woman who had shaved all her hair off and had tattoos all over her head - bizarre but interesting.. a few actresses have done it and they look fabulous although not all do and i doubt most men would love it.. for you fellows that shave bald - why do ou like it.
avi had an awesome avatar of him shaved bald -- so sexy looking.

I have really short hair for a female, (usually slightly shorter than my husband's) and have had so for the past 13 years, but I can't say I'd ever shave my hair all off. I think it would be pretty gutsy to do, because I think very few people out there have a really nice looking head shape, and even some hair can hide that.

Did you ever know any JW's/Pioneers who frequented popular nightspots and got drunk?
by James_Slash init used to make me sick at these hypocrites.. they would be at the meeting the next day or out in field service, obviously still intoxicated from the night before but putting a show on before the congregation.
i knew a couple of girls who would be regulary doing this over a weekend yet they would be pioneers all week, answering up at the meetings yet would be heading into popular nightspots and coming home at 4am drunk.
their dad was an elder (surprise, surprise).. i remember telling an elder about this once.

Me. I (and my ex-boyfriend) used to constantly go out to a popular gay club and close the place down and get drunk.
When I quit pioneering and moved out of my parent's house to a different congregation, my (all in good standing) JW roomates used to have parties all the time. One party the PO's wife and her pioneer friend were so drunk they knocked our bathroom sink off its pedistal. There were actually a lot of higher-ups in that congregation that were frequently drunk at our house, and most of them were 10-20 years older than we were.

If Someone Tells You They Will Call You At A Certain Time And They Don't....
by minimus inhow does that affect you?.
it ticks me off if i'm waiting for a call and i stop myself from doing something only to not have the person keep the commitment..

I usually only give people my home phone. (I have a prepaid only for emergency cell phone) Not being on time is one of my biggest pet peeves, and if it isn't a reasonable amount of time after they've told me they'll call, when they finally get around to it, I probably will let it go to voice mail instead of answering it.

Is school back in session where you live?
by compound complex ingreetings, back-to-school-community dwellers!.
i just heard the high school bus rumble by.
if i time my excursions on the road properly during the coming semesters, i will stay ahead of the school buses picking up/depositing kids throughout the day.. if a parent, are you really ready, once again, to start making lunches, going to soccer practice, volunteering in class?.

Thanks to budget cuts, it doesn't start here until Sep. 9th. But it wouldn't have started much earlier, anyway.
And yes, I'm ready to start with everything again. I have 2 in soccer and help at school and pre-school. The only bad thing is my oldest will now be doing full days, and my youngest is only in preschool 8 1/2 hours a week, and hates it when my oldest is gone.
