Um, mrsjones is a respected member of this community. Who the hell are you callin' a troll Mr. "Under 100 Posts"?? I don't think you've been here long enough or observed enough members here to make such a call.

My mother is trying to indoctrinate my 4 year old and I do not know what to do
by jwfacts inmy mother lives a plane trip away from me, so does not get to spend very much time with zac.
however, she is in sydney for 3 weeks and has been babysitting.
i knew that she would be talking about jehovah, but was very annoyed yesterday when zac said my mother was speaking all day about jehovah, such as how he made the stars.. in the past, i was not overly concerned if zac learnt about jehovah's witnesses, as i thought it would help with critical thinking skills to understand different points of view.

Sorry you're having to deal with this. My personal opinion is in line with that of the others here. If she cannot respect your wishes for her to refrain from speaking about her religious ideologies to your son, then she cannot have the PRIVILEGE of being in his life. That's right. It's a PRIVILEGE, not a RIGHT.
Your wife needs to respect your position on this matter as well and not allow her child to be spoken to about this junk. I think you should have a serious talk about it with her and let her know exactly where you stand. After all, this is YOUR mother, YOU know her better, and YOU know what to expect from her. If you make it known that she's not allowed to contact your son (if she keeps up this nonsense), then your wife needs to respect that.
Please keep us updated!

I came here as a JW who was questioning. To be honest, none of the posts here offened me. I was looking for TRUTH and found it, no matter what package it came in. I appreciated reading the "Hey, wake up Dumbass!" kicks to the critical thinking part of my brain. Some people need that in order to wake up.
If a person can't handle a few chides here and there that aren't even directed at them personally, but at an organization (let's face it, JW's make fun of other religions. Don't tell me they don't, I've been in car groups where the brothers and sisters will make fun of the beliefs of the person whose home they just came from), then they aren't ready to exit. If a person is TRULY ready, they will either disregard the sarcasm, or they'll think it's funny themselves. If they take it to heart, then they aren't ready to find out the real truth. Truth hurts sometimes. Truth can be brutal and difficult to swallow. Sometimes it causes us to look at ourselves in a less than flattering light. It takes maturity to accept that and make necessary changes. If a person can't accept that, then they aren't mature and they pretty much can't handle the truth.
As for finding Jesus...well, good for you. I like the Where's Waldo? puzzles, myself. I've found him a BUNCH of times. I hate when they put other things in the picture that have red and white stripes, though. Confuses the hell out of me sometimes...
I don't believe in Jesus as a deity, a supernatural being, a resurrected prophet, a messiah, or whatever it is your particular belief system deems him to be (I mean, they all view him so differently, how the hell do you choose?). A large part of me doubts he ever even existed, as his life story is a mirror of many "gods" who came before him. So I tend to think it's just a new religion that cropped up and "robbed from the rich to give to the poor".
That said, you're entitled to your beliefs. You're entitled to speak about them. However, I am entitled to speak about how I feel about the Watchtower and to counter religious arguments with reasoning and critical thinking. That's what makes this board so great. There are lots of different opinions, but lots of people band together to support one another whether they're religious or atheist. If we want to be snarky about the Watchtower and the mindless drones who run it and adhere to it, we're entitled. As I said, if someone is truly searching, no amount of sarcasm will keep them from finding out the truth.

A JW's Comment Regarding The Magazine downsizing
by Bangalore inon one of those pro-jw message boards there was a small discussion about the magazine downsizing.here is one comment that stood out.. .
though the special letter read, mentioned printing, paper and the cost of presses has led to a reduction in the number of pages in the public issues of the magazines, it makes me wonder- hummmm.
the message to the public will now be shorter - and more than likely more direct.

See, when I read that comment, I see it as "Jehovah is keeping US fed, but he doesn't care as much about worldly people anymore to give THEM any in-depth spiritual food...we're SPESHUL!!!"
Yup...special alright...but not in the "singled out" and "chosen" way that you think...

What if Adam knew his wife, before the sin?
by Nambo ini sometimes wonder how things would have been if adam and eve had procreated before eating from the tree of knowledge, and the ramifications of such.. if any children didnt also eat of the tree, would we now have two groups of humans on earth, one perfect and living forever, and us.. would god have split the two classes of human, putting eden on another planet or dimension or such?.
does this indicate that its all deliberate, that god knew satans plan so let the play unfold before letting adam and eve know each other?.
or does it just mean that satan was allready corrupted and wanted to get his deed done at the very beggining to ensuer he had everyone?.

Considering it's all just a fable, it doesn't really matter. However, I'll humor the idea for the sake of argument.
The fact of the matter is, this "god" is supposedly omniscient. He knows all, or can CHOOSE to know all (as was brought out at a bookstudy years ago). Therefore, knowing his creation, knowing Satan's disposition, there's enough evidence to show he KNEW this would all happen and therefore that he was party to it and allowed it to happen without stopping it. Why not just destroy Satan before creating Adam and Eve? This would have shown that he WAS all-powerful, and if you screw with him you get the ax. However, we're given the excuse of "He had to PROVE his sovereignty". Huh. Ego much? "Well, he had myriads of angels watching how this would play out!". So, in other words, this almighty being who created all had to prove himself to his kids, is that what you're saying? Doesn't make much sense to me.
At any rate, if Adam and Eve had children before the "original sin", those kids would have to be raised by someone... So I figure god would have let them stay in Eden until the kids could survive on their own and then they'd have to deal with their parents being "disfellowshipped". Or possibly even killed outright since there was a law in Mosaic times prohibiting stoning of those who "fell short". Then the human race could have been continued through the incestuous relationships of Adam and Eve's kids without the interference of their "apostate" parents.
But as I said, it's all a fable and doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things.

As Flipper said, you need to fade the best way you know how to for your circumstances. I slowly decreased my time by only going out with certain people (a friend who would invite me, whatever) or by going on a study with my mom once or twice a month. I also got very "busy" with work (I did work 2 jobs temporarily...that was part of the fade). So I could be honest with how many hours I spent...and I always made sure I said I placed NOTHING. The reason for this (beside the fact that it was true lol) is that they can't count what you don't place. Why give them the numbers? Eventually, I just stopped going on the studies altogether and just made myself unavailable for service when invited "Oh, Saturday?? Sorry, I'm working! Maybe Sister Over-Zealous can go...".
I only started getting hounded when I wasn't turning in a slip. That's when they start to bother you. "Hello, Kool Jo, this is Brother Brown Nose. I was calling to see if I could get your Field Circus time for the month of July...Oh you didn't get any? There had to have been ONE HOUR the whole month that you spoke to SOMEONE about Jehovah...". When this was posed to me, I said "I suppose...I mean, I don't want to say there definitely was if there wasn't. I didn't keep track. I don't want to LIE on my Field Circus report...Do what you think is best". The following month, I claimed I was so busy I just couldn't get out and that we aren't allowed to talk religion at work...and I don't associate with them outside of work because they're "bad association". After that I just stopped answering the phone. They came around a few times when I wasn't home (my father alerted me), they planned on coming around a few times (my father alerted me so I could be out lol), and there was a time or two they actually caught me and I simply told them I was busy. When they tried to pin me down for a Shepherding Call, I told them I didn't know what my schedule would be like, that I was working two jobs, and that when I wasn't working I was either sleeping or running errands. I'm just too busy.
Eventually, they quit trying. And it's been peaceful bliss ever since.
I don't know your family situation (if you're married, have children, or whatnot), but the best thing I did was move away from the area and not give a congregation to forward my stuff to. I didn't give my parents my address until after I moved so that if they were asked they could honestly say they didn't know. I haven't been contacted, haven't seen any JW's, and have been free to celebrate holidays and do what I want. That might be a solution if your situation permits it.

Is that too much control?
by Iamallcool insome years ago, when i was newly inactive and i was thinking about returning to the kingdom hall.
i emailed ms to send me an copy of public talk schedule via email.
he was the talk coordinator.

I think that even though the list of upcoming talks is posted, actually sending you a copy might be against protocol... Maybe because then you could just decide which ones you wanted to be present for and which ones you could pass on. Possibly it was a ploy just to get you to show up and "see for yourself".
